Smoking Marijuana Makes Parents Unfit?

If they get their MMJ qualification right away, they should be good--
At least here in Cali, I had CPS here at my house because it was reported that I smoke and grow-- They looked at my garden, took a copy of mine and my son's Recs...and said no problem...just don't smoke with her in the room--
2 Years ago...no probs since--
Taking those kids was abuse of power!!

I knew for many years that if I smoked reefer that my headaches might be relieved somewhat, but my kids were still growing up. I had to make choices about what was responsible and what was practical and what my goals for my kids were going to be. Everyone has to make their own decisions on what drugs they are going to put into their bodies and have a full appreciation for the consequences of those decisions.

In my case, I knew my kids would not be likely to interpret my decision in terms of an appreciation of all the consequences that I understood because they had no life experience that would allow them to appreciate all of these issues. What you do, what you think, what you say and what you fail to say is what says everything about you. When you are a parent you don't have the luxury of being a parent some of the time and not at other times. It doesn't matter if you think using drugs is good, bad or indifferent; what matters is that you understand what the consequences are of your decisions regarding the use of drugs. Your children are children because they cannot appreciate the consequences of their decisions - it is what makes them unique, precious and dangerously exposed as nature's most naive creatures. You become an adult once you understand that decisions have consequences and one must consider the consequences of your decisions lest the consequences become the decision.

When it comes to our children, we have an obligation to ensure they get to adulthood with as little scarring and damage as we can possibly inflict upon them. Once they get to adulthood they can do as they see fit and our job changes to holding the net when they will let us (while they were children we held the net whether they liked it or not) and provide moral support the rest of the time. We cannot turn a blind eye towards them because it is socially inconvenient or we want to just blow off steam. We gave up that right as soon as their lives began and that's part of the entire "being and adult" bag of tricks and if you can't shoulder it then you shouldn't be a parent.

There really is no solace for us on this one; you have to be responsible around your kids so there is a chance they will be responsible when their turn comes. We all know this but have decided to call it different things at different times so we could kid ourselves into thinking that shirking our responsibilities to our kids was somehow an okay decision.

Rant ends. Soapbox restowed under the bed.

Which is responsible smoking and hiding it from your kid or smoking and discussing it with your kid?

I personally think being open and honest is best, but I am a hypocrite because I don't smoke in front of or discuss it with my child.

I grew up in a sadistic country that allowed people to smoke cigarettes all around my tiny body as I flew in an airplane, rode in a car, ate at a restaurant, watched a MLB game, or watched my parents host a dinner party or bridge game.

Drinking and smoking all around me all the time. I managed never to touch cigarettes, but I drink beer like a champ.

I think everyone is free to be as good or as bad a parent as they want and I for one don't want to pay any PIGS to get into the middle of it, because as has been pointed out these two parents are 100 times better than the PIGS who kidnapped a 3 and 5 year old.

I don't think the parents were immoral for smoking, but I know Washoe county NV acted immorally and committed a naziesq felony under the banner of "Saving the Children"

NOT IN MY NAME NOT IN MY NAME NOT IN MY NAME.

How can we support any government when even the most libertarian western outposts are goose steeping to the party line?

Peace, :joint:

PS. Lots of people "Shouldn't" be parents, but kidnapping their offspring in the name of safety is far worse.

Dragnet BABY! I think in that same episode they were grilling the high school kid who rolled a joint with a US $1. But I think the dead baby was at an LSD party.

So help us stoners out with some old school TV trivia!

Fucking cops, if i existed and had a kid no cops would be able to take them away, lets just say it would end in a fiery shootout, not that it would make things better, but ffs; no one should be able to take your kids away. Not for the greens anyway. fuck!

Then a large portion of congress and the senate are unfit. As well as current and former presidents of the united states.

Just more BS to add to an already out of control, hypocritical, corrupted war on some drugs.

It's true. I once chewed on my son's leg when I got the munchies one evening.

In all seriousness, this is pretty messed up. Parents can do so many things that are worse than smoking weed and they get to keep their children. The state should have no right to infringe upon people's lives when they're causing no harm.

I don't think it makes you an unfit parent at all. I don't smoke around my son, I just step out and take a couple pokes when I have a few minutes and then get back to being a parent. I quit drinking because it definitely made me an "unfit" parent!

The sad part in my opinion, other than the distress and trauma caused to this family, is that the real reason the cops do it.Its not "to protect the children" or to " protect and serve" its to keep propping up the whole corrupt system. Now after the jail and courtroom ends in fines on top of fines(Money for the powers that be).Next step is "Treatment stage" which of course they will have to pay for also(more cash to support more jobs that allow ppl to treat you like less of a human). Then the long stretch of "Probationary period" where your home is not safe from incursion your children and families live in fear. For a period of time they own you and they will not let go if there is more money to be made.In most states that is the usual scenario. Its just a self sustaining beauracracy that gives them the nice little side effect of being able to discriminate and control.I feel for this family in a big way.Its not about keeping the peace anymore.Unfortunately.One love all.

I blame the parents... hear me out.

We all know about the idiotic society we live in.
We know the dangers of being "exposed". Of course I don't agree with the rules but until we come together to change them we must protect ourselves and our loved ones.

you think pigsters are capable of such reflection?

nah... they are thick, it is really incredible actually...

do they as well drag kids away from parents who watch soap-operas on the tube several hours per day and transmit those values to the kids?

they think that is harmless stuff... and they think our good herb is the devil itself...

backward mofos is what they are

its not that way here in east tennessee. a friends oldest son got caught by police after running away from home. told them he didn't want to go home because "my mommy smokes pot..." cop told him "if that is your biggest problem with your mother, then you damn well better be thankful". gotta love an educated police officer, LOL! armedoldhippy

Unfortunately not all the pertinent info gets published, we usually only get a small portion of what happened. Don't believe anything you read or hear and only half of what you see. Nevada is generally very much against weed. Need some changes there.

:fsu: It seems you solved this problem by not reading the linked RGJ article or this thread. Possession of under 4oz is a misdemeanor that is easily bargained down to jaywalking and pay the fine.

You think changes are needed in NV, and I say they have been advancing for a long time and it is my bet that the Washoe county district attorney will not be pressing charges against these parents.

I agree the pigs should have left these two PEACEFUL NV citizens alone in their home with their children. The real injustice here is if you are of lower income and live in an apartment complex you are much more likely to encounter pigs, and the pigs are much more likely to abuse your rights because they perceive younger, poorer, or darker people as second class citizens.

Too bad all cops can't think as clearly as the guy from TN mentioned a few posts above.

Peace, :joint:
