Smoking Marijuana Makes Parents Unfit?

Does smoking marijuana make you an unfit parent? According to Reno police, it does. Reno police busted the parents of two children after they came to their door and smelled marijuana. The police "determined" that the parents were unfit to care for their children. Social workers took their kids into custody.

I wonder if they do that when they find parents who are drunk?

Don't they know that marijuana wears off, just like alcohol, and in a couple of hours they can be "fit" parents again?

i mean i think locking them in a closet with a bong wouldnt even be enough....
i dont understand how they were endangering their kids...parents can smoke cigarettes(400,000 deaths per year)
and drink alcohol (150,000 deaths per year)
around their kids but yet taking a couple rips is going to do some sort of damage?

I wish I was in a better situation so that I may help these parents with the best lawyer Reno has to offer, Hopefully Normal or MPP will get involved. The problem here is, at least in my neck of the woods, parents that smoke ganja rarely do other drugs habitually. When you have a Heroin or coke addiction weed just doesn't do it for ya anymore. I know with every part of my being that alcohol creates a much worse environment for children, not that alcohol is the devil, but weed surely is not. I for one am a better more understanding human being when I puff. It gives you that outside perspective letting you see that anger is just doesn't work in your favor. I have a buddy that is on probation and he failed a drug test. He had to go to a hearing with his probation officer and the head of the probation dept. He told them that he had been riding to work in a van for several weeks and the other passengers were smoking weed every day. The head of probation said that if he stuck to that story they were going to revoke his probation immediately and he would have to tell his story the the judge. They said it was impossible to inhale enough second hand smoke to fail a drug test. If you can't inhale enough to fail a test, than certainly you can't inhale enough to get high. In the eyes of the law that is. Hypocrites are what they are! Kidnapping hypocrites!

That really sucks... I feel terrible for that family that is split up over something so stupid. That is why I am forced to step outside even during the coldest winter days in order to enjoy a toke. Its unjust, but in this day in age its necessary... I hope the courts wake up very quickly and reunite this family.

I have no problem with any parent smoking marijuana, but the parents should have smoked in areas where the smell should be vented, sometimes I take bong rips in my bathroom with 2 exhausts i put in. Blow it out a open window.

There are no precautions from over zealous PIGS. These are two non-violent americans in their own home. Reno is a 24/7 365 drinking and gambling town. To be fair the state does lock up loser parents who leave their kids in casino arcades for 12 hours on end or cook them to death in a hot car in a parking lot, but the state can demonstrate NO danger from a kid smelling MJ smoke. NV is one of the smokiest states in the nation, people smoke in the grocery stores in front of kids, the police officer who made that arrest should shot him / herself with their service revolver as that would help Washoe county much more than anything else he / she could do.

I would be surprised if these two get prosecuted, because as the article and photos show everyone in that house was fat, healthy, and happy.
