64F is a little too chilly. Not going to hurt anything, but it'll slow growth down.

The plants will lean toward the vertical bulb and when the soil gets dry they'll bend over a little. Not wilting in the sense that something is wrong.

I can't wait to see how those Mandala strains do with vert. I don't care so much for the indicas either.

Meh, the pics fucked up somehow and apparently lost some. Didn't have the pic of all the #4 toether, and that's the ONLY pic I have of the #5's. I'll edit back and add them, but this will do for now.

I'm not even going to bother measuring these. They're all about 3" - 6" tall.

Thanks, Chief! I did run into some problems with burning earlier. And the damn cat keeps getting at them.

Catman - I know that's a little bit too cold, but I figure that 64* was better than the 90* temps I had during some of our hotter days. And I'm not referring to the bending of the stalks, the wilting in the leaves. I dry my medium out pretty well before re-watering, basically, I wait until the leaves wilt slightly. Those leaves are usually perky and reaching for the light.

Oh! I'm concerned slightly about my Mandala seeds. How soon should I put them under that HID? I've got them under 126w of daylight CFL right now.

Edit: Pretty sure one of my Mandala#1 seeds are fucked. Not quite sure what happened but I guess i watered it too hard and it kinda floated dot the top. the taproot doesn't look totally dead, but its barely there for a plant that has leaves about to open up. I kinda buried it a little and just crossing my fingers now.

Another thing I noticed is my FIM technique didn't really work for the most part. I've got one plant that I'm happy with as far as the results go from FIM.

I topped a few more of the ones we're bushing out again -each had about 4 tops that I tried the FIM technique on again. Dunno what I did wrong last time, maybe I cut off too much. Left more than I normally did this time.

Hey dude the very grows looking great keep up the good work.
Looking forward to more pics as they grow up and flower.

Are you trimming the outside branches / nodes that are growing?

Are you going to be banging some kind of HPS or somthing in the middle as they get bigger ?

What's up weedman.

I've actually been slacking off quite a bit! I planned on having it totally done by now to be honest, but the stoner in me just doesn't allow it to happen sometimes.

I do have a HPS light/ballast that I've yet to stick in there. I know I'll be doing that this week, but I haven't decided whether or not to use the HPS bulb that came with the system, or order another CMH. I honestly see no advantage to running a HPS in the middle as opposed to a CMH bulb.

CMH has better spectrum and less heat. That pretty much seals the deal for me. But... that also means spending another $50+ on another light bulb. I'll probably put it in as an HPS to help trigger flowering faster hopefully, and then switch it out to a CMH once they're all flowering properly.

I'm growing using a few methods.

Some of them are just growing tree-style.

I've got a few that I topped once.

I've got some that I'm bushing out that were either topped or FIM'd, all of which just got their growth tips FIM'd for the 2nd time.

I also haven't been trimming any branches or nodes yet. I plan on using a few of the nodes on the bottom for cloning from each plant. The cats have been doing a little bit of pruning for me. They keep getting to my fan leaves. Thankfully they keep getting the ones on the "back" side away from the light that really aren't getting much anyway.

Okay, so I pulled the girls out late... again. 2 hours late this time lol.

It's just extra darkness tho, so it shouldn't be exactly bad for them at the time being. Should speed up the process, I believe.

Took a few pics, put 'em where they go and took another whole cab pic. I gotta get those back row ones up higher. The ones that are flowering pretty much just grew to the same height in the past couple days as the older plants vegging.

gotta say this is a great thread...very interested to see where it goes...awesome job my man

in regards to the FIMing, 99.9999% of the time that I've had a friend say "dude I tried this FIMing shit instead of just plain old topping and I don't get what the big deal is" they were trying too hard to apply their scientific methods of growing to a technique called "Fuck, I Missed!" peace dude

Looks like you're off to a solid start! I like that you're starting off with lots of plants! So many won't make it to the end, it's kinda disappointing having to kill em. Good call spending your money on the equipment first. You can find nice genetics in bagseed, it just takes a lot more... Those Mandalas are going to be lovely! I'm gonna sit back and watch the show...

Got some stuff done today. I don't have the tent wrapped up yet, that'll wait until I get an extraction fan. I put the light on top of a crate rather than the boards. This raised it a few inches, which IMO makes it a little too high but the HPS on top casts light down onto 'em so I'm not too worried about it. Once I transplant 'em into the 3 and 5 gallon containers, they'll be the right height for the CMH.

However, I do have that HPS up and running, so as of now we're running 800w. I don't have a second level yet, but that'll be done this week. Gotta make some room for them Mandala's!

I ordered another CMH and ballast kit as well, that'll be here hopefully this week. I also ordered the pH meter calibration and storage solution. So I'll have my pH pen for the Mandala strains as well as 1,200W of light.

I'm still sorta trippin' out about my ventilation right now. Still not sure exactly how I'm gonna make it work, but I'll figure something out. I'm kinda wondering how well the central air system will work to keep the temps down. I still don't know WHERE we're venting to. I'm all for cutting a hole in the ceiling and venting it into the attic. We may just go out the window, I dunno yet.

Oh, and to be perfectly honest, I dont think we'll be running dual stacks, as originally stated. Uhm, this is turning out to be a little more work than I anticipated, and I don't know if I wanna do it all over again for another stack. Maybe a small horizontal grow. I kinda wanna try out a ScOG. Not sure if I'll have enough time. We'll see.

Thanks for stopping in tho guys. It's nice to get some feedback. I'll start flowering some of these soon.

They're already like 1' tall and seem to be more sativa dominate plants so I'm slightly anxious about the stretch. As soon as I can afford a few bags of medium, I'll be transplanting them into 3 gallon grow bags. The ones I'm trying to bush out nicely are gonna go into 5 gallon bags.

Anyway, so far I have a really good Fem:Male ratio on all my grows. Let's hope it stays that way! I think I've been getting like 80% about, fems. In 9 years of growing. Well there was one really bad outdoor season where I got like maybe 8 outta 20 females =/

Why not just build another single vert chamber? That is what I would do.

I was thinking about that. But like Vert = more space. Like, growing space. Meaning more plants. So now we're talking about a bunch more medium, grow bags, ferts, relay, bulb, socket/cord.

This is putting a strain on the pocket as it is. Had to buy everything, the only thing I already had were some CFL's. Meh, it hasn't been that cheap. There's a lot I'd like to change, but I'll take what I got.

I could grow just like 5 big bushes... but I don't have that kind of veg time available. All I really wanna do is play around with hydro a little bit. Wanna try a DWC setup. I figure I'd do 4 of 'em horizontally or probably like 8 vertically. Once again, that's a cost factor. 8 DWC buckets cost more than 4. I mean they're like what... 15 for the bucket and air pump. 5 for the stone. 5 for the hoses... that's already 25 per bucket, and that's not everything you need. I think in this situation, horizontal just has more appeal to me.

Now your kicking ass dude... what about netting round the inside wooden structure, like chicken wire.. then velcro strips on the outside of the wood, and mylar pannels that you can put up and peel back ? :)

What's up weedman? I did raise that concern (I don't know if I mentioned this yet, but I DO have a roommate). I'm worried about branches getting too heavy and falling onto the bulb, thus creating a fire hazard. I was originally going to run some cool tubes, but I decided to try bare bulb because well... apparently Vert is a lot easier to cool? We'll find out because I had a couple temp issues during the day. Once again, I ghetto rigged some stuff I had laying around as a temporary solution. Don't have the ventilation fan/filter yet, so I'm really limited with what I can do. I basically stuck my Lasko blower fan in the window sucking the cool night air from outside into the room. Keeps the temps down so long as its cool outside.

As far as the reflective material goes... I don't see the point. Virtually NO light goes through my canopy onto the plastic directly behind the plants. I ghetto rigged it again with some black painters plastic to contain the light a little bit. I'll take some pics here in a bit. It looks horrible, but it does what it was intended to do. It used to look like there was just a light on in the room. Right now at night there's not a single visible light coming from that room. The plastic over the window removes what the tent lets out.

When both lights are running at night it gets up to about 86. I run the CMH 24/7 right now, and the HPS is on a 12/12 cycle. I'm running it more for temp testing purposes than actual useage right now. I know the way I'm running it is kinda wasteful, but it IS casting light onto that bottom row. If I get that shelf in, I'll have the flowering plants set around the HPS obviously. They still haven't shown any preflowers (unless they've shown 'em since they went in the dark).

The Mandala Seeds -
1 of my Mandala#1 is dead. Uhm. Pretty sure it was my fault on the handling part. I was kinda fucked up when I did the transplant and there was one that I recall giving me a particularly difficult time. I think that's the one. There's also 1 speed queen plant that... I THINK is still alive, but its definitely stunted. I dug it up and it has a healthy looking taproot, and its like ALMOST about to break the soil, but the rest have roots that are thoroughly penetrated into the medium. So, as of now, I have 4 of each strain. I'm leaving the stunted one in there to see if it pops, but the other one has been removed.

I received my pH solution stuff in the mail just shortly ago.

I will be receiving my CMH ballast/bulb this week, so that's 1,200w

May be installing 2nd level tonight, waiting on a jigsaw is all.

To be honest, I think I'm already looking forward to my next grow more. I just want to re-build that damn cab. I know I could do it 100x cleaner and better looking. I could have built a horizontal tent quite nicely. It's just... different. Growing.... up the walls? I'm 100% sure I'm doing vert again.

Now here's to hoping for 1.5g/w or better.

I'll take some pics of everything, as ghetto as it is, here in a bit.

Okay the ghetto part of it all. These are all temporary solutions to an existing problem. I'd rather fix them and have it look like this, than to wait until I have the money.

I do what I can. :)
