Smokahontas' Himalaya + La Blanca PC Grow

Hi guys,

This is my second time doing a PC grow with autos. This summer I did 2x Lowryder#2 and 1x diesel ryder with some decent success. I made some newbie mistakes, such as putting all 3 in a one gallon container. One of the lowryders choked out the other two so I got 11 grams of 1 lowryder and about a gram from each of the other two. I also used from crappy cheap soil I bought at a hardware store. The lowryder wasn't very potent, but the diesel ryder was a very very sexy gram. I hope that these will be more potent.

This time I have the la blanca and the himalaya each in their own 1 gallon smart pot with FF ocean forest soil. They are on day 21 or so and I gave them a very diluted nute feeding 2 days ago with 8-0-0 npk.

the himalaya is the smaller one and is about 4 days younger than the la blanca. **I have noticed the himalayas top leaves are a little bit light in color. It is very very subtle and I don't think it is a big issue, but I thought I remember reading somewhere about some disease that has these subtle characteristics. Maybe I am just paranoid/ over pre cautious (I did just smoke a nice 10am blunt).

Enjoy the pics, ill be sure to post more. And they are both feminized and showed sex around 5 days ago.

wow la blanca has sexed on day 16 from seed??

even the breeders say she takes upto a month to show sex

intresting very fuking interesting

what light cycle you on???

what are your temps???

Why is it such a surprise that the La Blanca is in a PC?? Does she get huge or something? I had La Blanca, Blue Himalaya, Super Cali Haze, and Onyx. This run is the La Blanca/Himalaya, next run is the Super cali haze, Onyx. I thought that the latter 2 were the ones that are notorious for getting huge. Anyway, temps are probably 75-80. The leaves are very slightly cupping upward which may show heat stress. I keep the light about 3 inches from the plants. Both plants are about 30 days old. Heres some update pics. The smaller one is the himalaya, the bigger is the la blanca.

The middle two are la blanca, far right is himalaya. In the case the one on the left is the la blanca. Both are kind of outgrowing the case cuz theyre getting so bushy. Its hard to take them out of the case and put them back in because im afraid im gonna split or bend the leaves. *** Light cycle is 15/9. I am going to switch to 12/12 in a few weeks.

from my own experience i would say that automatic la blanca can get quite big and bushy :)

but you have answered the question as to why she has sexed so early its because of your light cycle, your growing your plants on 15/9 as oppose to the normal 18/6 or 20/4 that most people use, i would advise not switching to 12/12 as this may diminish your yield

good luck with the rest of ya grow

I think 15/9 is fine, as long as it is consistent. People grow all the time at 12/12 from seed to harvest. I added 3 hours to the cycle. As long as I don't switch the lights to a shorter cycle, which I haven't yet, it shouldn't cause the plant to flower early.

*I think this is correct. Maybe I am wrong**

The pots are both 1 gallon. Pretty reasonable for an auto, and they're only 30 days old it isn't like they have outgrown the pots. Maybe I was mistaken when I thought I saw the hairs that mark a female at 15 days, but I just looked at them and I am certain now that they have both shown female sex. I would say that they probably did it between day 20-25 at the latest. I think maybe you are mistaking showing sex for flowering. Many autos show sex as early as 15 days. Flowering won't happen till 21 days at the earliest, depending on what auto you get. Lowryders are supposed to consistently flower at 21 days, but I have only done one run with lowryders and I didn't see flowering until 30 days or so.

Regardless, both are looking very lush, especially the la blanca, but the himalaya is around 4 days younger so it really isn't too behind. I expect that I will take these guys until 80 days or so to make them absolute couch lock beasters. I am looking for some Grade A potent stuff from these guys since the lowryder was probably Grade C in my books and I took them to around 65-70 days. A widow cross and a purple himalaya sounds like something Grade A.

I will post some update pics in a few days

its a light cycle thing ;)

autos do best on 18/6 20/4 light cycle the reason your la blanca has sexed so early is because she is being grown on a 15/9 light cycle

because your lights are out for a longer period of time the plants flowering hormones build up quicker forcing her to show sex earlier

as for switching to 12/12 i couldnt understand why you would want to do this as i already stated that autos thrive on a 18/6 20/4 light cycle putting them on 12/12 will diminsh what they can achieve :)

i didnt know that himalya blue diesel had purple in her, you learn something new every day

peace

I am not going to switch the lights to 12/12. But if I keep the lights at 15/9 I don't think it would make any difference because autos are fine at 12/12 from seed to harvest, so keeping it at 15/9 from seed to harvest is the same thing +3 hours of light a day. These are both in a PC case so my space is limited anyway. I think these guys will really fill up the case and then some. I may even have a space problem at some point. So in terms of killing the yield my yield has a fine limit as it is. If I were to keep the light at 20/4 then the plants would outgrow the case no question. I think giving her some nice time in the dark will increase the potency. Like I said there is diminishing returns on the case, because eventually she will get too big. You did say the la blanca can be a tall bitch, my case is 26.5 inches tall.

lol mate i understand why you are growing on your light cycle because of the space issues , i couldnt get my head around why la blanca sexed so early but after you explained what setup you are using it all made sense, as i said in my above post

whats the purple in the himalaya blue diesel then??

I dont know what purple it is, but I have seen some phenotypes in other grow journals where the himalaya had some very nice purple colors in it. Not LVPK purple but it clearly showed some colors. Most other phenotypes of the himalaya I have seen aren't purple but they are definitely a dark color and the himalaya diesel which is a slightly different strain from short stuff looks straight up blue.

Here are some update pics. I am using my SCROG screen to take care of the height issue. I like to use a quasi-LST method with my PC case. The plants are clearly much taller than when a plant is ideally first tied for an LST. I use the SCROG screen to essentially 'push' down the plants, bending the upper 1/4 of the taller La Blanca and maybe 1/5 of the himalaya. In probably 3-4 days I will move the screen up an inch and give the newly grown and straight top of the plants another push. I think bending the plant in some way in a PC case should ALWAYS be used to conserve space and create more bud sites + increase yield. The himalaya and la blanca each in separate 1 gallon containers of some FF Ocean forest would undoubtedly outgrow my 18Lx8Wx25H PC case. Only 8 inches wide. I have high ambitions for these sluts. My goal is to pull 2 Os from the 2 plants. 2 gallons of quality soil is definitely a good start, but the quasi-LST is going to be essential. I am also no longer taking these plants out of the case, since it is clearly becoming a jungle in there. I also misjudged the plants ages. The La Blanca is about 28 days old and the Himalaya 23.

Stay tuned for more science.

whappen star

that himalaya pic you posted is not very purple admitdly there maybe very slight tinge but overall it looks normal, maybe its my eyes i dunno

now about my la blanca lol

if you go to the breeders website and see their autoflowering strains you will see that la blanca, mataro blue and the white dominia (this is a strain im adding to my collection ) are all meant to take 3 months to grow, after my la blanca didnt sex after about 4 weeks i was concerened thinking she wasnt an auto numerous people have also posted the same thing,so i emailed the breeders and got an email back saying that she will sex at week 5 and start flowering in the 2nd month but may take longer to grow indoors, if you look in my diary you will see that indeed she did sex after the 1st month of growth and is now in the switching over period at least this is what i hope, in fact her appetite has increased so this is always a good sign that she is heading in the right direction.

when you said your la blanca had sexed after 16 days this got me thinking wtf but after you explained your light cycle it made perfect sense, the reason yours sexed so early is because of the longer dark period, her flowering hormones had built up quicker during her dark phase so it triggered her response to flowering faster

you can have a look at my la blanca in my grow thread journal, she is an absoloute beauty and cant wait to see her frosty goodness although i think ill be seeing your ladys fisnish before mine ;)

peace

Updates

Updates

My himalaya is starting to flower beautifully and really fill out. She is maybe 12" and I gave her a nice little LST to save some space so she has 1 really nice top cola which was the original one and two slightly smaller ones, plus 5-6 secondary colas that are starting to shape up and fill out too. I can swear I see some blue/purple colors that are starting up on the 1st top cola.

The La Blanca is about 20" tall and is a complete jungle mess. Thats all I can describe it as. I gave the La Blanca a slightly stronger LST job so there are at least 6 "top" colas that are going to produce some real insane bud sites, and at least 10 more on the sides.

If I had to estimate at this point and at this pace, the Himalaya should make 14-28 grams and the La Blanca 28-56 grams. If all works out well, I hope that the himalaya will finish pretty quickly so I can get it out and give the La Blanca more room for flowering time. This would be key because I could really LST the crap out of it with more space in the case and expose some sexy bud sites.

I have been thinking though that maybe I should change my light cycle somewhat soon from 16/9 to 12/12 until harvest so that I can trigger the la blanca to flower.

The la blanca is around 43 days old and the himalaya is around 37.

I am thinking maybe I will do this in two weeks or so at day 60 for the la blanca, because if this la blanca continues on its grow streak for another 2 months it will certainly outgrow the case.

Next post will have pics....

i thought your la blanca had sexed around day 14??

if this is the case and it hasnt gone on to flower then i think its safe to say that la blanca is not 100% autoflowering which is a shame as i had high hopes for this strain and all the others that the breeder has to offer :(

i will be avoiding them in the future and spending my money elsewhere

i look forward to your pics :good:

hm, so an autoflower shows sex and then goes right into flowering? Because this la blanca no doubt has showed her sex for 3 weeks and she has not made the slightest trichomes.

The himalaya is looking SICK though.

Like I said, I think I am going to switch to 12/12 in 2 weeks or so.

What would this do in terms of my himalaya which will be on day 56 or so by then. The himalaya is truly looking starting to look like a freak. I would say that 50% of her calyxes have remarkably turned amber already. I feel like i could harvest her today and be happy. But I cant wait to see what a few weeks would do to her buds.

and skotty, i think you should reserve your thoughts on the strain until you see what kind of buds she can make. yes it is a shame that this isnt a true auto, but if it is a true widow cross we could be in for a snowy winter.
