Sinsemilla in Cancun, Mexico

My fiance and I will be heading to Cancun in 2 weeks for a week long vacation. We've been to Mexico many times but this will be our first trip to Cancun. Based on past experiences in Mexico and the fact that Cancun is a party destination, I'm sure that we will not have a problem getting pot. However, my mission is to get the best quality possible as safely as possible. I know that the cops in the area are really corrupt.

Does anybody have any advice on scoring buds sin semillas (without seeds)? Do you recommend trying to score from a bartender at the hotel or from beach vendors, or at the flea markets?

Your advice is much appreciated. I can't wait to be baked on the beach with a tropical drink in hand.

not happenin friend, but good luck. I've never ever encountered sinsemilla in Mexico, and I've been a few times. Even if the farmer knows to pull males, the guy next to him, or the wild plants, can pollinate the crop. Lots of herb to be had. Don't pay more than $20 for a zip. I would go with the bartender, or the taxi driver. Watch out on the beach, cause cops will dress as civilians and extort you.

I agree, not a chance of sinsemilla in Cancun.

Avoid scoring in Cancun, they will sell you drity brown brick weed that's crap and the street dealers work with the police so you stand a very good chance of getting skanked royally.

Head down to Playa del Carmen on the bus or inland to Merida or Valladolid, easy to score quality weed in those places at much less risk. The best place is the shopping area on Isla De La Mujeres, get the ferry to the island and walk through the little town on the island to the north and there are dozens of people selling, you can even buy hash here.

Thanks for your responses. I know that scoring good weed in Cancun may seem impossible but its not. You just know where to look. That's where I'm hoping somebody could help.

Although most of it is shit brick weed. There are some diamonds in the rough. I speak Spanish and this usually helps. I'm more concerned about not getting set up in a sting though.

British: Would you tell me more about Isla De la Mujeres? We're planning a day trip there anyway. Now i am plan it a little earlier into the trip.

Well, in Cancun you will get offered 'sticky green' and 'hidroponico', but will be sold the same dry, crap brickweed, the mall opposite Coco Bongo's has a few street dealers, but FFS don't be tempted to buy from them, 50 dollars for an eighth of brick weed and they tip the wink to the cops who will pick you up round the corner, relieve you of all you valuables and money, march you to the ATM in the mall, make you empty all your accoutns and max out your CCs, really do a number on you, then hand the weed back to the dealer to repeat thje same scam on the next unsuspecting tourist. I know people who this happened to, right after I warned them it would!

The little mall at Playa Tortugas also has dealers, but the same scam with the cops operates there too, so avoid it and al lthe other malls in the hotel zone. Taxi drivers will offer to take you to buy weed, this is a lottery, they may take you to a shanty town where a relative will sell you some weed, or they may rip you off, I know folks have successfully scored from taxi drivers, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Basically, get the hell out of Cancun to score! The prices of everythign drop dramatically once you get out of the Hotel Zone, even downtown Cancun is much cheaper. Once you take the bus to Valladolid or Merida, you see the real prices of things in Mexico, the exact same souveneirs, handicrafts etc. are for sale here as in Cancun, but they can be as little as a fifth of sixth the price.

If you speak Spanish, I suggest hiring a car - goto downtown Cancun and go direct to Hertz, Avis, Enterprise or one of the other global chains and hire direct from their office, every hotel and taxi driver will offer to arrange a hire car for you, but I strongly recommend going direct to the big multinationals to ensure you get a car in good condition that is safe to drive. I've seen a number of RTAs in Cancun and the surrounding parts, althought the general standard of driving is good and the Mexicans tend to be pretty courteous drivers, I strongly suggest making sure you have a car with good brakes etc.

If you drive around the region, you will see a lot of roadside stalls selling fruit and veg, souveneirs etc. Often they are a board on a couple of rocks and a collection of wooden creates full of produce manned by an old woman. Stopping at one and asking for mota is a good way to score safely, no risk of corrupt police and the price is very cheap, expect a choice of a few bundles of weed wrapped in newspaper. Haggle and buy a nice big bundle, then find somewhere out of the way to sit and pick out all the stalks and seeds, if you bought a pound, you'd only end up with half a pund at most after removing all the crap! Don't always settle for the first weed they show you, they will almost certainly have more than one quality. I highly recommend a trip to valladolid, a lovely small, sleepy rural town, really good place to just wander round and soak up the atmosphere and culture. There is a large central square with the cathedral on one side, the square is lined with market stalls and traders selling things, although you won't see boxes of weed openly displayed for sale like there were in the 70s, there is loads and loads of mota to be bought here, asking the fruit and veg sellers is a good idea, they often have boxes of weed tucked away, or picking up a pipe or ashtray and examining it at a souveneir stall is inevitably a way of provoking the question 'senor, you looking to buy something to smoke?'

Playa del Carmen has become pretty touristy in the last few years but is well worth a visit, prices are half that of Cancun for food, souveneirs etc. and there is plenty of weed to be bought, just be careful and keep an eye out for cops. I'd try Valladolid, Merida and the roadside stalls before Playa del Carmen tho.

Isla de Mujeres is well worth a visit, you get the ferry from Puerto Juarez, about 15 mins north of downtown Cancun, I'm pretty sure there are ferries from Playa del Carmen too, although I took the Puerto Juarez one. Don't be tempted to book a tour there, you won't get much time to yourself. When you arrive at the pier, there will be loads of guys offering taxis and these funny tricycles, just walk right past them into the town and walk through downtown to the northern side of town, here there are loads of touristy shops selling all the usual souveneirs etc. (cheaper than Cancun again) and there will be loads of guys hanging round in front of the shops, almost certainly you won't need to ask, you will be offered weed immediately. I ended up playing three of them off against each other by refusing the first samples I was shown and insisting I was only interested in the most primo available, so they all produced their best. I know lots of folks have had the same experience here and it's a pretty safe place to score, and the island is a safe place to get high, just be discreet and remember EVERYONE in Mexico istantly recognises the smell of marijuana. Don't smoke it on the beach or in any public area of your hotel, don't let the hotel guards catch you as they will extract bribes, this is why getting a hire car is a good idea, once out of Cancun, it's much safer to light up, in Cancun, stick to your hotel room, make sure you have a room not on the ground floor and be careful. Only chance to smoke on the beach is early morning or late at night when it's deserted, even then, keep as far as possible from any hotel workers.

One other big tip is to only book excursions and activities through your tour operator at your hotel, there are lots and lots of companies offering cheap tours and activities, but they are unregulated and many of them offer rubbish tours and activities with poor equipment and poor or no safety provision. Make sure you have good travel insurance before you go as if you have an accident of get ill, it will cost you, the doctors and hospitals are good, but it all costs money.

Also, if buying drinks anywhere outside the hotel zone, make sure you go con hielo as the ice may be made wih tap water and not be safe, if you do want ice, make sure you see the bag it comes from and that it is not made from tap water. Also, you need to make sure you see them open the bottle of beer or Pepsi/coke/whatever to ensure you are getting something that is safe to drink. There are convenience stores everywhere and it's probably better to buy drinks there, the local brands of water are all good and half the price of international brands. Drink a litre of water an hour if you are active during the day and avoid doing anything between noon and 2pm, it's far too hot. Don't underestimate how strong the sun is in Cancun and make sure you remember to drink lots of water, especially if you have been drinking alcohol the night before, dehydration can make you really ill for a day or two.

The food in Mexico is really good, again, be careful about where you eat, I ate all over the place and didn't get sick, if you aren't sure of the place, just make sure to pick something other than rice or seafood as those are the two main sources of food poisoning.

Last tip is about alcohol, anything that has to be imported such as Jack Daniels or Budweiser is at least twice the price of domestic produced stuff, you can get an unpleasantly large drinks bill if you order imported booze all night! Oh, and take plenty of papers with you, it's really hard o find rolling papers in Mexican shops, only tobacconists sell them. In the convenience stores they sell cigars and cigarettes, but not many of them sell papers and a pack of orange zig-zags is as much as a pack of domestic cigarettes and labels you a pot smoker as everyone smoke normal cigarettes and you never see anyone roll their own. If you're a pipe smoker, buy a cheap pipe there (the soapstone ones are good and cheap) and leave it behind when you leave.

I say get the kilo, cause you might only get a pound out of it. Lots of shake and stems... Weight is always estimated, never exacted. If I ever met a Mexican with a scale, I would shit myself. Prices are always negotiable.

I have been there about 5 times and always had good luck across the bridge early in the morning at the flea market. The mayans grow it all over the place, but as said before no good green. The basic weed is about a 1/3 as strong as here, because we all know when the seeds start the good stuff stops. They will try to rip you off of course, but I got 5 us and it was about 10 grams, after cleaning 5 or 4. Rolled a couple and a choked it down, I didnt try the hash, may be the answer if it doesnt have dog shit mixed in with it. The beer is good, the beach is beautiful, and the water is as blue as the sky, so all is good but the weed, it sucks so dont expect much and you wont be disappointed. No you aint going to find some mad mexican who only grows hydro, they cant afford nothing and most live in boxes and tents or the huts they sell their crap out of. Check out the made in india stckers on the crap, got to laugh, the only hope would to hook up with a rich mexican, but you would have a better chance in the states for that. Got to love the place, cheap and beautiful, do the eco tour, its a blast, just a cool place to chill, daddy o,s, La Boom, are some wild bars, frogs, enjoy. But for weed the dam or england is the place.

I recommend not doing it I ended up going to the pharmacies which all have liquor stores in them. Tell them you have a very bad headache and they will try to sell you Ultram. Tell them NO you want oxycodone. After 6 tries I was in this nice shopping mall I think called La Isla and told the guy I was hurting bad. He said Ultram was the best he had. I started to walk away and he reached under the counter and sold me 10 oxycodone for less than 20 bucks. At least I had hangover medicine. Stay away from a mall that has a number in the title. I forgot because of my head injury but just stay away. You will know what the movie stars feal like when the paparrazi chases them. From the moment you walk in the airport they are on you. Make you reservations on Expedia, or Orbits or something like that. Also if you have a group don't pay all that money to go to the sites. Rent a van and a driver. Then you can leave and go when you want for less. We stayed at a place called Grand Parnasses which means Mountain of the Gods. It is just over a year old and sparkling clean. If you want 15 bottles of water at 4 am they will be there in minutes. You might have luck scoring ifm you have early lunch at the Hard Rock. It isn't busy and the waiters have time to talk. They have the best French Dip sandwiches in the world! Stay safe and use sunblock. It will fry your skin. Have fun. When you get to the hotels most of them have peopl that want to show you a time share for a free bottle of rock gut tequila. Say no keep walking. Just keep going until you are in your room. Then you are safe. On the way out when you get to the airport the don't care who you are. They figure you are broke and aren't going to mess with you. I met some really great kind Mexican people. Try that hotel. Reasonable and has good neighbors. I went there last October with my mother and neice while I was waiting for my one female plant out of 12 started to dry. What a treat to come home to. Properly dried and just what a weary traveler needed. I have had friends robbed by the police back in the 80's. Don't let that scare you. Just don't give them a reason to fuck you. Also they really appreciate you trying to speak the language even if it is only "ola" Good luck and have fun.

Been to Cancun a couple times. Always scored the first day there and no problems. Just keep it cool and discreet and you will be good to go.
Last time I was there the weed I scored was brown and stringy but it smelled good and fresh. It rocked. Very potent.

I've been a few times and it's easy to score, but you have to be very careful, don't bother scoring in the resort area, there are a load of street dealers in the mall opposite Coco Bongos and they work with the cops to scam people. Mercado 28 in Downtown cancun is pretty safe to score, just find one of the many stalls selling lighters, pipes, ashtrays etc, and they will almost certainly ask you if you want to buy. They don't use the terms mota or marijuana, they cater for tourists and call it things like 'sticky green' and hidroponico' but it's usually brown local weed, and as Ahab says, it can be very potent indeed, I've tripped off weed there and for a little while oen time, actually got very paranoid and was a little too high.

I have lived on quintana roo: I lived at xpuha, south of Playa del Carmen, i have very long blonde dreads, so it just comes to me, you can score anywhere if you look the part, even in Cancun, but, I would get the fuck outa the 'cun emiditaly, ha, thats the shit hole of te "PENINSULA" , i guess i was lucky, i got a german girlfriend who owend a local restaraunt and lived with her and taught yoga and hand drumming on xpuha, one time i was jogging down the beach and about 3 or 4 mile south of MY beach and ran across 2 mexican drinking cervasas , i asked "donde esta la molta" MOLTA" is the name for pot, they took me to their maya vilage and hacked me a newspaper full, for 10$, i smoked a joint with em and jogged back to civilization to my hammock and ate papaya pancakes all in the same hr, then , some locals took me to a "local" CENOTE" one of the MOST increible time of my life went diving like the maya used to, .. go south my son. ask for MOLTA , but Molta be just find you.
