they are growing in Mexico to sell to the kids in Mexico as well now because its gaining popularity, most of the importers are growing in the states to sell to people in the states. The real pushers don't grow herb down there to import to the states anymore.
Plus in Mexico City they are charging $500 an OZ for what they are calling Cali Weed...

whatever great Mexican lines that still survive.
if any actually do survive in pure form. i had several hundred seeds from back then that my brother saved while living in Texas. they were lost, then found again, but i've had zero % success getting any to germinate...the Acapulco Gold, some of the stuff from the Michoacan region, those are the stuff dreams are made of...

About damn time. I miss the oldschool mexican bagweed as well
From what time period?? In NJ in late 1970's they had trouble getting $10 an ounce. We compared it to lawn clippings or people growing and selling home grown plants that never flowered.

Early 2000's i was still getting some decent brickweed. You know that light green lime smelling bagweed. But I was told by a guy from Mexico that most growers down there ditched mexican sativas in the early 90's as soon as they found out about afghanicas. Bigger yields, easier growing and they could make more money. So i have no idea what the hell i was smoking . Whatever it was i liked it

maybe Chong still has some of the old school pure Mexican, some BOEL probably do too

but I also wonder how many priceless genetics Chong lost when he got raided for the bongs

Theres plenty of landrace strains out there that atleast come close to the old school stuff. Varietys from Ace seeds like panama and honduras come to mind

I was in Lake County (next to Mendocino) and won best bud in the valley where I was growing.

Mid-flowering, the Cartel approached me and offered me a house and a salary I wont disclose to run their grows in that valley and to lead their breeding program for that region.
I was surprised to see they were doing organics and were paying attention to the subtleties of the plant.

I politely declined.
Local, State, and Feds came to that valley in force a number of times - they left us gringos alone and only went after the Cartel.

With many of the American farmers going Rec, its leaving a large vacuum for the Cartels to fill.

I will say I also noticed pretty good quality from the Hmong and Slavic cartels.

It was a head-scratcher to see good quality from cartels while the people who were still using rockwool and pesticides were white methheads

I used to go through a lot of brick weed when I lived in pueblo. The quality was all over the place from total garbage to some that I would love to have again. About 8 years ago approximately I bought a pack of sensi seeds skunk 1. I didn't find any keepers but i did find myself thinking I sure have gone through a lot of bricks of this same herb. Mexican growers have been buying seeds almost as long as everyone else.

My first thought was crack in it. Would think very easy to have analyzed. In 1970's heard occasional stories of PCP treated weed.

one of the speculations is they soak it in gasoline that was used for cocaine extraction, but what is perhaps the most fucked up about it is that there is no real answer, like they aren't saying what it is, vice wasn't able to get a sample to test, dea hasn't released anything on it

my guess would be that due to the shift towards legalization happening in some south american countries that have always been known for weed mostly Colombia and likewise in Mexico they maybe don't see it proliferating beyond central america and maybe the local authorities there aren't really trying to make any busts
