Sick White Widdows - First timer - HELP!

Ok I have some sick white widows. This is my first post all though I think I've read through most all your diaries, grow designs and hydro set-ups. Thanks for all the info everyone! So back to my problem...

This is my first real grow in soil. I'll be moving in the next mo. or 2 and get a ebb & flow SOG style set up after these are done. But for now I'm in a a closet which measures 23"x83". I have 9 White widdows and 2 random free seeds that were sent but not labeled. aprox. 2.5 weeks old in FFOF. I just transplanted them from out of the dixie cups. I'm using a 600w HPS, currently it's about 3.5 feet above them, 6" ellicent fan around 300 cfm(exhaust), 4" air intake aprox 200 cfm, and a 8" oscilating fan. Tempatures average 78-83, 16% humidity. The only thing I'm unsure of is the water. I haven't bought a ph meter yet. But it's on order.

I'm having problems with yellowing leaves and brown spots. Also for 2.5 weeks old these things are midgets. I grew bagseed out of random soil and sat in the window and had better success. (never flowered it, just a test) They are all only 3 faned leaves. You'll also be able to see the diference in the random seeds, they're extremely droopy with large ridges in the fan and starting to get a little yellow in the bottom of the fan leaf. I'm thinking it's gotta be the PH, when I first started them I had the HPS way to close and got the temps up to 100 only for about 20 mins. But I have fixed the problem spaced them away and maintained consistent temps for about a week with not much for extra growth. Couldn't upload pics not sure why?? ehh..I was about to load some pics off photobucket but it includes my full name. I'll see if i can get the pics uploaded shortly or create a new photobucket account. :wallbash:

on another note I ordered some more beans and they arrived today
10 NYCD, 10 BIGBUD, 10 LR#2 got them from http://www.marijuana-seeds.nl/ This was my second order from them. Everything came in just like the first order except this time it was sent registered mail. I had to sign to get the package. I thought it was a little weird and I was a little apprehensive to sign it but I did. Should I be worried? I contacted them to see what the deal was, no reply yet.

I second that, looks like over watering. Did you mix anything in with the soil, and have you fed them anything? You need to wait a few days in between watering and learn how fast the plant is drinking up the water. Then get on a good schedule where the soil dries out a decent amount before adding anymore H2O.
Are you using tap water? you may need to let it sit out, or bubble it for 12 or more hours to evaporate chlorine that is may be used to sterilize the water. You've come to the right place, so hopefully we can get others to add their 2pence.

I personally would consider FFOF too strong for seedlngs......especially WW which is a light feeder anyway, even in flower.

I start all my soil stuff in FF Happy Frog, then into FFOF when they are about 3 weeks old.

In other words....i think they are nuteburned.

Can you transplant into something lighter.......like Happy Frog? They look pretty fried though.

Good luck.

PS....I order all my seeds from them and never had a problem.......not sure I remember signing for things or not. I have an order into them right now......I'll let you know if I have to sign for it.

You guys are awesome thanks for the quick replies. I thought the droopy one was overwatered as well. Watered like every 4 days. The top 1"+ would be bone dry and crusty then I watered. Added a little dish soap to penetrate a little better. I'll let it go for a while and see if it helps. Can't switch soil unless it's something I can pick up at Lowe's, the hydro store is a good ride from where I live. Any suggestions on that? No other feedings although I just ordered some advanced nutes from htg. http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=51972
looks like I should wait on using those then huh?

oh yea, I'm using tap water. Until I get my tester pen would it be beneficial to use gallon water? Spring or distilled? Or just let it sit out under my hps? Thanks guys

Widows like LIGHT ferts! Never use more than 1/4 of what it tells you to use on fert bottle.

Go to Lowe's and get some seed starting mix with 0 ferts added. I don't think I'd use the dish soap for watering either. if you do, remember it only takes 1 drop of dish soap per gallon of water. I would just skip the dish soap.

With your new seeds, do everything the opposite to what you have the poor widows on, cause what you are doing is not working!

Oh, and don't pull off all the damaged leaves! They can still be of use to plant even if they are damaged!

I advise checking the runoff pH ASAP! Go get an aquarium tester if you have too until the pH meter comes!

:yeahthats What she said. If you can't transplant you should flush the living bejesus out of that soil. And I would hurry......they look pretty unhappy. Make sure ph is between 6.2-6.8 during flushing and that's what your runoff should be at the end as well. I really think you need to get the rich nutes out of there or your plants will die IF the problem is nuteburn..........and I think it is.

Good luck.

thanks! I realize what I'm doing isn't working! I'll flush the crap out of em. I'm leaving for cancun next week so They'll be all alone for 7 days. I put 2 scoops of soil most in each pot. Might just toss em out and charge this one to the game. I didnt know when I started I'd be moving. How about NYCD, Big Bud, LR2? Will they be ok in ffof? Since I have 3 bags and all these mostly unused I'd like to finish it off.

another question.. I thought you were suppose to pull of damaged leaves. I was under the impression the plant would be spending a lot of energy trying to repair it instead of growing? Is this wrong? Thanks

Actually what really happens is that the plant will use things that are stored in the damaged leaves for repairing OTHER usable parts of the plant.Tha's why damaged leaves actually can start loooking even worse even as the plant is doing better. It's using whats stored in those leaves and that's a good thing. :D By pulling the leaves before they are ready (they should come if you blow on them....seriously) you are actually making the plant work on THOSE repairs....the ones YOU made by stressing the plant out and taking away some of it's natural resources. Constant unnecessary pruning will stress your plant......I know because I have done it myself by not leaving the plant alone enough.

For seedlings.....never start with FFOF. It's just too strong for them. Get yourself a nice bag of Happy Frog and use that as your starter mix for ALL your babies. When you transplant out of the 4 inch pots into something larger they'll be ready for the FFOF soil. You just need to go easy with seedlings......ANY seedlings but the WW IS a light feeder to begin with. .

plants don't repair leaves

leave it so it can use whatever might still be in it. once the plant doesn't need it then it will let go of it by itself.

i would personally get those WW into bigger pots already. i had a small overwatering problem with mine and when i transplanted into bigger pots and watered the same they took off. mine were only a couple weeks old and filled those solo cups with roots. also im running snow white fem which came from the WW and she started off really slow from seed but once they were a month old and i put the into flowering they took off. my plants now are only 8in tall and have plenty of bud on them. and another thing once you get into the flowering period THEY LOVE NUTES! at least mine did. i have to water every otherday with a qt of water per plant in a 3gal.

they started off really small but they explode before your eyes. all mine are grown organically with only a couple of t5s and t8s. shows what can be done when u replicate mother nature.

:yeahthats
That's how they should look. Just from reading all your guys posts and pictures I knew these things were majorly stunted. Great response time I posted around 10 and made it home during lunch for a flush. I Flushed the "bejeezus" out of them. I'll let em grow til Cancun (about 5 days) and decide if I'm going to rip em or not. I'd almost sleep easier pulling them since I'm getting ready to move; concerned about the landlord wanting to show the place when I'm gone and hearing the fans or something. While I'm renting I'd prefer putting them in a cab instead of a closet. Looking at this now.. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99841700 118x26 could fit a nice amount of plants! somewhere around 60 sog style!

It's expense to get in this game! I've spent around $1500 already!

so the consensus is that NYCD, BB, LR2 will be fine FFOF?

..

Tryin to put a picture of my draw up with no luck. Figured I'd build a 24x 96 flood table with wood and pond liner. Then make a mom cab with the remaining 14" or so and a shelf for the clones on top. All I can find that's narrow enough to fit is a 40 Gal. Res. Would that be enough for a flood table that size? I'm thinking a little bigger would be better. Especially since I like to take off for a week at a time whenever my broke ass friends have the money to go somewhere.

Actually I missed where the consensus said FFOF was fine for seedlings.....I';ll repeat....I use Happy Frog for seedlings and Oceans Forest the rest of the time.

sorry weedhound, misread something. Thanks for your help. I'll put up a pic in a week or two and we'll see if the've improved any after that mega flush.

Weedhound has said it twice and I'll say it once!

NEVER START ANY SEEDS IN A SOIL WITH FERTS IN IT! FFOF TOO HOT FOR ANY SEEDLING! Use the FFOF when you get them bigger!

And also...You don't need to start any plants if you are gonna go off for a week at a time. That is way too long and you will have dead plants when you get back.
