sick of low quality weed so gonna grow my own, few grow questions

I'm looking to grow something really dank, stuff that would go for ridiculous prices. I grow for myself.

I used to think buying is better without the hassle of growing. But the last months were terrible, the weed I get is horrible. I'm sick of everyone, they all lie and rip off with shitty quality.

I was looking at Serious Seeds, Ak47 , Straweberry Akel and Motavation https://www.seriousseeds.com/cannabis-seeds/motavation

Would you consider these strains to be top notch dank weed if grown right?

I'm looking for a great high. I already had AK48 in the past and it was crazy good.

I hate weed that is too dry as well. I've heard many of the legal weed in Canada is dry as hell. The high is much worse than if it's not too dry.

I am looking at a 600w HPS and 4 to 5 plants. Probably 4.
Will use a growbox.
But the growbox will be in a place that is around 40 Square Meters =
430.55642 Square Feet

Right now night temps are around 18c and day temps up to 27c.
Winter is coming, so I will need to heat the place. Do you think 2x 2000w heaters will do the job? I don't care how expensive it is, it's much more expensive spending money on bad weed!

Anything special I should look for with the Ak47 grow? It says and I remember it's an easy plant to grow. Do you consider ak47 serious really good weed?

Would you rather keep buying if you could (I can afford no problem) , or have the hassle of growing? Keep in mind the weed is absolutely horrible here. The rare case when it's good, it's gone in days.

So , my main problem is actually winter and keeping the place warm.

What temperature would you consider the lowest for flowering?

how big of place? is it a garage where you'll put your growbox? does the place hold heat well or is it drafty?

i grow inside a garage that is drafty and doesn't hold heat. i tried to use space heaters to warm it up in there during the cold months and it doesn't work. So i built an insulated room and that helps a lot during lights on period. when the lights go off, i put the heater inside the room which is big enough to not have too close to the plants. the temp is set at the lowest setting and sits on the ground. the heat will rise and when it builds up, it will signal a thermostat that is up high towards the ceiling to turn on the intake that pulls in cold air. this keeps a pretty good cycle going and if you fiddle around with it, you'll find a good spot. the space heater that has ceramic heating works best for me in a baseboard design so its low to the ground. nothing that glows.

the legal weed here SUCKS. sometimes i get burnt out on growing but then i see what's available at the legal stores and that helps a lot. lol

Serious AK47 is good.

If you can get some OZ's from local growers, there's a fair chance you will find the occasional seed - and that it will be high quality.

+ other smokers tend to save seeds.

I don't think of growing as being a hassle, but the fact that you mentioned that word made me remember that there are a lot of people who do find it to be challenging, and often times they give up, unfortunately. So my advice to you is to keep this simple. There will be time for you to experiment with expensive and/or gimmicky supplements later on... for now, just get a solid one-part nutrient like MaxiBloom or Jack's, go for something really simple like top-fed coco, or hempy buckets. And don't overthink it. You will be amazed by how much return you get on your investment. It will inspire you and keep you motivated to keep going.

Also, if you're going to be ordering seeds, I really encourage you to go with feminized varieties. It can take the wind out of your sails when you realize you were working with a male all along, or if one of your several plants turns out to be a male when you thought you pulled all the males already and now your crop is seeded, or whatever. Things like that.

Feel free to take a look at a lot of my past work if you want to see some adventures in lazy gardening. That's kind of my theme, and always has been. I have made ventures into complex gardening from time to time, mostly out of boredom, but I always return to my home base, which is stupid lazy gardening. It's my specialty. You can put my screen name into the "Thread Title Search" at the top of the page and see all of my journals. I put my name in all of the titles.

One or two of Ace's seeds will be.in my next grow and outdoor next spring. They look fantastic. Just have to have some room, they look like they get huge!

Go to the Ace forum here...there is a guy who does incredible mini-grows in solo cups...all the Ace varieties I have grown love to be pruned and trained. They will be worth the effort, and I grow the faster flowering varieties in the space around the long-flowering kind.

Don't buy expensive seeds for your first grow. You're better off with the AK48.

BS...the best seeds just germinate better, grow better, and cause the least issues. Do your research and setup everything right, and then buy the best quality seeds you can afford...why go to all the money, time, and energy to not grow the best you can??? :tiphat:

^ Expensive and the best are two very different things. Sometimes they just happen to overlap, but not necessarily so.

To the OP: don't pay much attention to price, other than to make sure it's in your budget. What matters is choosing the right breeder. Trust me on that. If you look around enough, you'll see all the people who have been doing this the longest sticking with certain breeders, or networks/collectives of breeders. There is a reason for this. You pick the right breeder and you will severely minimize any stupid problems along the way.

If I haven't said it before... Welcome to ICMag!! You're in the right place for amazing information, from an amazing group of growers.

Some great advice has already been given, and I'm going to briefly echo some and point out a others. I've found the best 'main' goal to have as a new grower is to "learn how you learn best." Find the general area you lack information and begin reading, listening to, watching or a combination of whatever format you learn from the most efficiently.

You'll find most of your first 200-300 questions are answered here, so you'll be able to answer most of them as you keep learning. This place is great. :D When you come across questions without an easily searchable answer, post it up in a new thread or a currently active relevant thread. There are a number of experienced growers here who actively watch for new threads. (myself included.)

- Start small
As previously stated, many people find reasons growing isn't going to work for them. If it does work for you, which it sounds like you have the drive necessary, you **will** always find use for your smaller setup as you upgrade. :)
- HID lighting creates a lot of heat. Run your lights during the coldest times and save on heating costs.
- Build a room in your space with drywall and insulation, so you have a more easily controlled area to begin with.
- Phytoremediation
Cannabis is excellent at pulling heavy metals, toxins and more from the soil. Anything your plant 'accumulates' will lower end quality. Flushing does not remedy this.
- In my opinion, Hot and wet creates more plant matter, while cool and dry produces less plant matter. Less plant, more trichome density and I prefer trichomes over plant matter. ;)
- Start basic
You're going to be learning a lot your first few grows, so keep your input to a minimum. Pre-bagged, known to be useable for cannabis, soil will much more simple than an organic roll your own. At least at the very beginning. Using nutrients? Stick with the basic NPK/micros and some epsom salts for mag hungry strains. Once you're not learning the plant every minute, going more complicated on nutrients is much easier.
- Study as much as you can before starting
The more information you absorb before you start, the less frustration you'll experience and the better your first results will be. :)

- Breathe
You're going to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Study to minimize the frequency and size of them. :) Have fun!

Welcome to the wild, wild, world of cannabis cultivation! The plant is not addictive, but the cultivation of it most certainly is. LOL

I'll check it out. I've been trying to narrow down to a few strains that they have that flower quickest. I don't have the patience for 4 months of flower ! LoL
Once I see one that I say is it, I see another strain that looks awesome!

Set a budget, maybe 300US bucks to set up the grow.
Not all at once, but forget about "keep it simple", that's a load of crap.

There's maybe 20 or 30 things you will need, at least.

Likely any decent seed bank offering you flower to completion will
be much better that street buds.

You will learn to be patient. From seed breaking ground to
a decent harvest is easily 4 weeks in veg plus 6-8 weeks in flower,
then dry time and a good 2 or 3 week sweat.

Pest control, nute management, other various troubleshooting will
come into play to test your patience.

Just a simple heads up, and welcome to growing your own,
you will like it, of that I am sure.
