LOL...funny shit for sure.

people just dont understand that shit if they havent been to AK.

...BTW this is no joke...I counted over 50 blue tarps from just 1 window of my 1974 Hi-top dodge "camper van" in 1 sitting.

this was when i worked at a "seafood processing plant" in kasilof...and it was a small one.

that was when I was 17...things have changed a bit since then, but the "blue tarp" in Alaska sure hasnt...it should be the "state flag"

Believe it or not, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly passed an ordinance for the Borough that says that you can't have blue tarps hung on a fence!!! Another ordinance says that you can't have a fence over 8' tall, and now they've passed an ordinance that says that you can only have 'X' number of square feet of 'junk' on your own land. (To which many recyclers took offense).

They'll make the whole planet into a hyper-regulated urban sprawl with little pink houses and white picket fences eventually, if the urbanian zealots have their way!!

"moose"..thats crazy, but not really...this whole world can kiss my ass right now...thats how I feel.

far-banks aint Los angelas (3 cars per person in LA) WTF

I spent far too much time in fairbanks...(the military base that it is)

I have dreams/nightmares to this day that I live there...and they are vivid and crazy dreams, and...guess what ....in my dreams its a "picket fence suburbia".

I have a cousin that goes to UAF...he pays $225 a month rent on a nice little 1 bedroom cabin w/ no water or electric, but he can walk to school, and only has to work 15 hrs a week.

fairbanks struck a "strange chord" w/ me...thats for sure.

I'm remote to that locale. Out in the hills, not far from a major river. I go into town as little as possible these days, and I'm happier for it.

Fbks history is full of colorful characters and true stories; every boom and bust, from the gold rush(es) to the pipeline boom, has lots of tales that many wouldn't even begin to believe. That eccentricism used to make it like living in an exotic comic strip.

But the corporatists and neo-puritans have taken over there, just like they have everywhere else; it's not enough to run their own lives. They wanna' run yours too.

I live where I can't see my neighbors, and those who hold the beliefs that I feel strongly opposed to know better than to come in the driveway, let alone to knock on my door.

But it's the continual growth of this attitude of boundarilessness, centralized strong-arm nanny-state government, and the neo-fascism of both primary political parties, that leaves me looking quite often at foreign land.

I just spotted this, yukon. I was so busy plucking away at keys, and yacking away that I missed it:

>>>a quick q? "moose" I do love the talkeetna area, but is there an "accessible" area anywhere near there that is NOT over-run w/ snowmachines all winter long ("accessible" to me would mean w/ in about 10 miles from a road, but have at least trail access)<<<

>>>I love snowmachines dont get me wrong , but to hear them constantly...well it kind of ruins the "middle of no-where" "backwoods recluse" experience.
<<<

A friend lives 50 miles down a trail, and has the goofy buggers pulling right into his yard at times, during late moose season; most urbanian week-end warriors seem to be hard-wired to assume that if you've driven 'X' number of miles, then you can do what you want, and go where you like. They seem to think that all those miles of open wilderness don't belong to anyone, even when it's -clearly- posted. He's chased more than a few out of the yard with unneighborly slurs.

If you get north of Talkeetna, up north of Byers Lake area, and the Veterans Memorial, going further, you might find some good remote land back in there. Even further north, you could look hard around Cantwell. Going out the Glenn Hwy toward Glenallen, there's land up that way, but it's pretty conservative religious in areas around Glenallen; one of Ak's original Bible belts..

Out by the Robertson River (a favorite crossing of mine) there's some over-the-counter subdivision land from the State (or there was) (if I recal correctly there was a 'Fireweed Subd.' that looked promising.), but you're then about 3 hours of fast driving to the east of Fbks, and 300+ miles mostly N.E. from Los Anchorage.

I'm very fond of the Robertson River area, and returning on the motorcycle from rides to Canada, I used to stop out by there quite often. It's just west a bit from Tok jct.

The remote state land is now more expensive than it's worth (imo), as they stopped folks from doing their own surveying. They now incorporate their own contract surveyors' fees into the sale price, and most of us know how co's feel about gov. contracts, right? (Free money from heaven!! Except it's not.. Somebody's gonna' pay for it.....)

Finding folks who want out of land ownership in such a place is the best way to go; they'll often sell way cheaper than the State will, and because they chose their land earlier, it's often nicer than what the state has left for sale over-the-counter.
