True.
But you have to practice methods that fit your situation on a regular basis to get results.
You can't use monastic methods and have a job. And you don't need the rituals they are exercising at home. I don't want to say, that they don't work.
In Western countries, there are hardly any monasteries that are supported by the community as in Asia. Monks often have to survive economically on their own, which contradicts the Vinaya (monastic rules), which prohibits monks from working or owning money.
monastic method i find more mystical

Buddhism focuses on the study of mind and reality based on logic, cause and effect. The “mystical” impression is often created by misunderstandings or romanticized representations. This is independent of monastic or lay schools.

Mystical interpretations or practices in Buddhism are rather to be seen as cultural or symbolic elements that serve to reveal deeper truths, but not as the core of the path. For him, the focus is on direct access to experience through meditation, compassion and wisdom, not on mysterious or supernatural aspects.

Buddhism always adapted to different cultures and societies in order to be more accessible and relevant. The essence of the teachings remains unchanged, while the form and language are flexible. The aim is to make people understand the path to liberation without diluting the timeless truths. In India, Tibet, China, Japan and the West, the Dharma took on different forms, but remained true to its essence. It is a natural process that allows the deep truths of the Dharma to be accessible to different societies.

I think the essence of all authentic healing teachings is the same. Compare, for example, the extatic states that arise from Buddhist practice (Pitti) with those of Hindu practice (Ananda).

The core teachings stay the same but everything else is presented in the best possible way, to help people.
However, it is like everywhere else and you should not be naive and check exactly who you trust.
would you say eastern buddhism is more spiritual based? eastern buddhist understand spiritual warfare ? demons and such . or would you just say these are traditions that pre date buddhism and localised to whichever region?

I think the speaker put it quite well. It's not about demons or warfare.
This deity is called Mahakala. Maha = big, kala = black
The flames are burning compassion and he tramples on the ego. His third eye is another sign of compassion.
There is nothing about warfare thougth in buddhism but you should protect yourself and your famliy from harm.

In Buddhism, we do not fight against external demons, but work with the inner forces that keep us from our inner freedom and enlightenment. Mara symbolizes everything that keeps us trapped in ignorance, attachment or aversion. It is our own negative states of mind - such as greed, hatred, pride or doubt - that appear as mara.

The “fight” in the Buddhist sense is not an aggressive one, but an act of recognizing and letting go. We overcome mara through compassion, mindfulness and wisdom. By clearing the mind and recognizing that Mara is nothing more than a projection of our own mind, these obstacles lose their power over us.

The legend of Buddha Shakyamuni, who encountered Mara under the Bodhi tree, shows this clearly: Buddha did not fight Mara, but recognized the truth and thus dissolved the power of illusion.

Yes, I have the initiation. The practice is called Phowa and you need a preparation and then you do extensive group meditations. In my lineage we meditated for a whole week from morning till late evening.
Once you experience yourself outside the body, a lot of neuroses are going away as you know from experience, that you are not the body and there is life after death.
