Sensi Star from Paradise Seeds

Hi folks,

just done 2 sensi stars.. Bought 3 fem seeds. 1 didn't survive (my fault, pet pushed it from the window sill). When i bought it, i knew i won't get large yields. What i see now, that's true. But i wanted to get pure indica (almost pure) stone, powerful enough to sit you on the couch. But.. talking about the potency - it's just not here. Missing. I think years ago it was THE STRAIN. Something happened. Because almost every smoke report was so positive. What happened? Could it be related to female seeds production, changed genetic compound of this strain?
I've got 2 phenos. In veg they were quite uniform, bushy, wide-leaved.
1 of them was prone to yellowing in some degree. When they started to flower one appeared to be lil bit taller, bigger buds, less leaves. This pheno could be taken in only 54-56 days 12/12, but i let him to sit until day 60. This pheno smelled quite fruity, citrus-exotics fruits..

Yield of another (2) pheno is obviously poorer, smell was much different - it smelled like rotten meat, dead body or somehing hidden in the pile of orange peels or somthing. It really stinks as ass, lil bit nasty but i like it. when fresh dried, crumbling the bud emits totally different smell - like terpentine, fuel or somthing like that. Strong smell.
Both phenos showed a hint of purple on the bud leaves towards the end. This pheno went 70 days of 12/12.

They were vegged for 25 days .Before switching 12/12 I took the lower 2 x 2 lower branches and did cloning directly into the potting soil. Both cuttings from pheno 1 rooted, but none of the pheno 2.
Rooted clones still flowering, one gave away.

Also, compared to freebies (Kali Dream (MOD seeds)) they were taller and less branchy.

I'm not a hardcore grower owning superior lightning system, but last time i've grown Iced Grapefruit from female seeds using the same setup (except the bulb, i change it every season). And i can say the IG beats SS (my SS) on every corner - the yield, the smoke , the potency and the duration of effects was much higher for IG. But it was from x-line seed series - they come, and never come back to market again (from what i've heard). But i don't want to be the advocate for female seeds company, 'cause i've smoked their bubblergummer (firend gave as a tester) - was somehow dull.

I still hope that somewhere thrives SS killer phenos, but i think the time changes and genetic composition of the strain too..

Is it a keeper strain? If i had the same seed that i grew out these 2 plant - i wouldn't go. But how i said, hope that you're more lucky than me. And I wish you to grow your ass killing SS .

Cheers

Greenmatter, how's the stretch and smell on the Wappa?

Hope you don't mind... my experience with wappa is about a double stretcher.. I put them inatabout 12 inches and the about double that... it produces very nice rock solid buds with great flavor and buzz.. it was a keeper forme... (sorry about the typos, using my tablet... touch keyboards suck...)

I appreciate it, MGK. Thanks for the input, what was the smell like for you in flower and after curing?

Smell is probably not it's strongest point.. it has a 'hay' smell to it (in a pleasant way) reminds me of fresh cut alfalfa.. background notes of citrus and a little bit of skunk/funk. Taste is great.. earthy and pleasant. Not a particular stinker when growing.. (hold on.. i'll smell one right now) ok.. kinda sandlewood/incense with a bit of solvent/fuel smell.. It's a real doll.. i'm at 5 weeks on a few right now.. they're tennis ball sized nugs that are very bright pale green/white in color.. I'm another 3 weeks away from flush on these kids..

You're very helpful, Mgk! Thank you!

Best of luck on your harvest... tennis ball-sized nugs!? :woohoo:

What light are you using and what would you predict the yield to be?

edit: I don't see any pictures in your album, I hate to ask so much, but any chance of some pictures of those pale green/white nugs?

Whats the deal with sensi star now is it still as good as it was a few years back? From reports about 5 years back everybody was raving about how strong it was and a good yielder, but now im seeing rports stating the opposite. I was gona buy a few packs in hope of finding the ogre but now im not sure if its worth it.

I posted what I felt was a somewhat favorable report up a few posts from here. I only kept it in the rotation for a couple plants.. I liked it, but there was stuff I liked better at the time, so I let the strain go. I think strain is pretty much the same as it was 5 years or so back, but I think what's happened is so many things have come to market these days that is far superior. It was a pretty plant and had one feature that I look for.. easy to groom..

I was confused I thought your post's were in regard to the Wappa. The conversation flipped to Wappa at the top of the page. Anyway thank you for the report, it is kind of a let down that this legendary strain is just so so overall.

If you looking for something really good dont expect to find it in a pack. get 3 packs look through them all. I found a stellar SS a few years ago. There was talk of a Ogre Pheno coming from SS. We all thought we had found one.

Is the SS of today the same as I had ten to fifteen years ago??? I've heard not...how does someone get the old genetics in seed form? Anyone selling the old time SS these days?

I'm not 100% about this, but I think the Original Sensi Star was a Sensi Seeds strain. I have done a couple Paradise SS and found them to be good yielders, but somewhat lackluster in the taste/smell department. Buzz was 'ok', but that was about it. This is what she looked like..

I'm growing SS from Paradise as well as Super Star from Delta 9. It's suppose to be an f2 selection of ss. While it had a good germ rate, the super stars weren't anything like sensi star- weak stems and slow growth. Ended up culling a 4' tall flowering female.

My old SS were strong indices...strong purple stems...dark dark green leaves...heavy tricks on even fan leaves...cured to a silver/lavender color...baby tokes is all you could take...
