Seeds slightly cracked open, regularly

I basically always get some seeds cracking open inside calyxs, i have heard some people say they have never seen it, i don't know what could cause it because it has happened indoors in a tent and also outdoors at different times of the year.
I don't spray them with water either, just water the pots.

I have read that it's from too much moisture but i don't see how that can be the case for me......

Has anyone else had this happen regularly?

Thanks for any replies. :thank you:

I might take a picture tomorrow.

Sometimes, but not very often some of the seeds will have cracked open with the taproot showing but usually just some are slightly opened along the seam.

I have germinated seeds like that at least 2 years old so it doesn't seem to affect them much, but i imagine still sealed ones keep longer (and look better).

You can ever so gently pry open with tweezers, careful not to injure tap root.

Why though?

They germinate fine as they are.... i just don't know how it can be from too much moisture, the plants are dry.

I'm more thinking for long term storage.

The seed hull and the inside skin is still attached to or enclosing the leaves. This happens if the seed was not planted deeply enough. Usually the seed hull is detached as the seedling emerges through the substrate. Spray the seed hull with mineral water and wait 1/2 hour for the moisture to soften the dry skin and soil residues. Then gently and slowly pull it off from the leaves. If it does not move easily spray more water. It is very important to remove it carefully because if you tear off the leaves the seedling dies.

Thanks aridbud, I think you misunderstood my problem, here is the picture,

This is how they come out of the dried flowers.

They still germinate properly but i doubt they would last as long in storage.

I have seen thousands of those; high humidity.
May be when the light is on the humidity is OK but when it´s off if you don´t have a deshumidifier can go too high.

They germ quicker but you´re right, probably they have a shorter shelf life. Use those ones first.I have some in the fridge myself.
Keep them with sillica gel/rice or somenthing that keeps the humidity low.

I keep my seeds 7C-8C and 30% humidity.

Greetings.

seen it a number of times n wouldn't guess humidity was an issue as much as the moms genetics tbh.
Nvr considered it a prob as they germ better than a lot of tight sealed seeds since moisture gets in so easily n wakes 'em up nice n quick.
nvr seen any negative or difference between them n any other seed n I prob grow more seed than bud most the time lol.

cheers,.........................................................gps

Thanks GPS.

I think the same, because some plants have none split and some have nearly all split, it's good to know that it's not unheard of.

Thanks zirt, the thing is that these were grown outdoors

I don´t know about your climate and how it was the weather when you harvested them. But the same applies.
Some hardcore grower told me the same, that was genetic but IMO is nosense as I have cleaned many seeds coming from different people and somentimes the same genetics.

That´s my experience.

I think it is a combination of (maybe weather) and genetics.

But it seems weird that it happens sometimes when it is only dry and hot.....

I've had one with a BLR that was cracked, i still dropped that seed though and it germed. Never know what's in a seed...I drop all seeds...bless

Could be. Yep, misunderstood what you were indicating. Indeed, a picture is worth a LOT of explanation.

Still, I've not had that happen....will leave it to those who have experienced this....

Good luck!
