Hi I am growing about 15 seeds in jiffy peat Pucks and I have germinated them and the have popped open. I have put them under a flourescent light and it has been 9 days. I do not know why they havent sprouted. I hope withing the next 5 days they will sprout and begin growing. Does anyone know where to find clones in the southern California area. I hope some of you will have the tips I need for a plentiful Harvest Thank You. :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint:

did you plant the seeds with the tap root downwords? If they are taking that long i always dig and find em and see whats wrong...one time i had a plant grow down instead of up...****in weird man ****in weird...since they are takin so long chances are you either planted them really far down or they dried up...i would dig and check em out if i were you

DBM is right. You need to grab some tweezers or something similar and carefully dig down to investigate. If the little taproot is all that's showing something is wrong. You may have to try again. Make sure to use only water on the pucks. No ph adjuster or nutes. If any of my seeds don't pop after 3-5 days, I try again. Good Luck. Keep asking questions when in doubt, it's the best way to learn.

THe best thing to do is when you germ them, make sure they are showing a small tap root before putting them into the soil; then you put like 1/2 in hole and put them in there where the seed pod is still showing but the tap root is covered up by the soil; they grow faster when they see the light, if soil is covering them up they have a longer germ rate ime.

So if you can be extremley careful when you dig into that mixture.... unless you know right where the seed is; I would not recommend it.
If you use tweezers make sure it's not sharp not to mention very sterile; you do not want to bring in fungus or other stuff that could be on the tweezers to your seedling; it will have no defense in fighting it off.

Also, I would try using a wet towel, try to avoid paper towels with dyes, because they have been known to affect germ rates..... and put the seeds onto the wet towel; keep a lid with some small holes to keep the moisture in there, but air still gets in there; check the seeds to ensure it is staying wet, but not under water....... this helps germ rate a ton, ensuring they are opening up before putting them into peat pucks; peat pucks are the best way to go for soil growers; I used them for clones and seedlings all the time.

Don't use Jiffys. Bad news! The Jiffys are too moist and cause the seeds to suffocate in many cases. The Jiffys are also well known for being a source of powdery mildew.

Rapid rooters are a much better option. Give them a try instead next time. They are cheap and at hydro shops.

Best way to germinate (best for me anyway) -
1. Soak the seeds in labeled jars (when growing multiple strains) in pure room temp water. Cups or jars is fine. I don't use paper towels or recommend them because it encourages too much handling of the seeds.

2. As each one cracks open and a tap root pops out, put them into rapid rooters pointy end down with a tweezer. Do this one at a time as they crack open. Don't sow them into the rapid rooters all at once. Just one at a time as they crack open. Most of the seeds will crack open within 48 hours. Some may take another 24 hours of being soaked. Once they have a taproot popping out, they have to be sowed into the rapid rooters.

That's it! Tried and tested.

Remember to presoak the rapid rooters in pure room temp water for 10 minutes before using. Use a tiny little piece of rapid rooter to cover the holes in the rapid rooters after sowing the seeds into the holes.

Rapid rooter are a must have for seeds and clones in my opinion. Amazing little things. FAAAAAR superior to Jiffy pellets.

You are supossed to squeeze out the excess; so I will have to disagree with this one. If you use peat pellets properly they are one of the best mediums to use for cloning and germing seeds in; I used them from the first time I started to clone to plopping my last seeds in there; all you got a do is squeeze out the excess water with clean hands they only hold in as much water as you allow them too;
Rapid rooters are good; but peat pellets are the way to go if you don't have access to a hydro shop.

I have never seen one jiffy cause powdery mildew...... not one. I am sure it has happened, but it's rare.

Like I said; if you read the directions on there; there is no way you can use them wrong. Who ever used them like you listed did not read on how to work those. My 9 year old kid could use them.

Have you tried Rapid Rooters yet stitch? If not you should really give them a try. They are popping up anywhere that has propagation supplies.
Another thing I didn't mention is Rapid Rooters are recommend for soil or hydro. I have tried Jiffys, Rockwool / stonewool , etc and the Rapid Rooters produce stronger seedlings than any of the others I've tried.

Yes, I have tried rapid rooters; I like them a lot, but I was talking about jiffy's and such...

I would like to use jiffys over rapid rooters but thats my opinion :)

jiffys peat pellets IMO are not good for seedlings. they can get to acidic for little seedlings and kill em.

"Please use high quality soil or rockwool starter cubes for germinating seeds (do not use jiffys/peat pellets/: the acidic pH of pure peat can inhibit germination of cannabis seeds)."

^^^ From Mandalas seed company reccomendations!

Well like I said; that was my opinion and I have recommended them for years and heard n o one come back and said they have issues.. so what works for others may not work for you.

My grows speak for themselves and everypicture I have that is mine in my gallery I have used peat pucks :)
