seeds from 2 plants of the same strain, what to expect?

so last summer I grew a small male plant and a small female plant beside each other in the backyard just for seeds and I got a decent amount. recently i sprouted a couple of them and they're growing fast and looking really healthy, hopefully one of the 2 is a female

anyway i was wondering what usually happens in terms of genetics when seeds are made from parents of the same strain? will the new generation be really similar to the first or would there be some noticeable changes? either way would be good.

Welcome, fellow BC'er :)

It further stabilizes the desired traits the more you do selections. Patience is necessary. You should keep selecting the finest male to pollinate your finest female and eventually you'll have something very consistently special.

ok, good to know. right now i don't have the light or space to selectively breed plants but hopefully something interesting will come out of these seeds i have. both parents were pretty hardy and fast growing so at least there's some good genetics there, i should have saved a clone of the male or at least some pollen but oh well.

also what if i was to get a male and a female from these seeds i have right now and bred those two? i'm guessing some sort of inbred sibling genetic stuff would happen? i don't plan to since i don't have the space even if i wanted to but still interested

I'm thinking it's like tomatoes or peppers, yes there are variations in the phenotypes. Will you notice or be able to tell, probably not. They all come out the same and grow buds just like any other plant that seeds. It's breeder bull crap that makes you think it takes science to get a decent strain. If it came from a good strain it will still be just fine!
