seeds coming out backwards?

Have you ever heard of seeds germitating and popping out root-side first? I'm not sure that that's what's happening, but on two of my Jack Flash seeds, a little shoot has popped that's completely smooth, no leaves, no nothing! wtf?

is this normal?

Thank you! yes, I'm talking about the radicle. My radicles are poking up out of the soil and nothing else.

I'm worried.

Sometimes people call the radicle a "tail". Could be the soil is too salty, terrible ph, lacks oxygen/too wet, or is too compacted. You might want to fix the problem and replant them like a surgeon with the "head" or remainder of the seed other than the the "tail" at soil level.

lol i've had it happen a few times...some seeds just can't find their way....it wasn't my soil mix because i've used the same mix for many years...i just had a couple Kodiak Golds come up backwards....its kinda strange

Yeah I had 2 or 3 of those Sam the Skunkman DPxSkunk#1 do that to me also, really sucked because I only got 5 of 10 to germ in the first place. I tried replanting but by the time I noticed them they must have dried out too much and never made it.

okay, i've surgically replanted them about 8 hours ago. since then they seem to be pushing up the seed side. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sometimes when you plant radicle down it will make a u-turn and come straight up out of the soil,I've read the proper way to plant a seed is radicle up,it will curve to the right making a u-turn going straight down into the soil and thus "pulling" the seedhush upward usually shedding it.I'm not sure if I buy that radicle up style though,I love clones lol.

Be sure to moisten the soil after replanting. This added moisture may delay growth slightly but after a day or two, normal growth should resume.

That's the way I always do seeds, tail up. It's always worked for me until the freebies, I think I didn't get them deep enough and while the root tip was trying to bend around it just broke the surface and dried out. Like you said planting seeds with the root tip up helps scrape the seed shell off.
