Seedlings an a hps

Tryed with this ? On general growing but had not much luck with ant info on the subject,a mate of mine has some young plants as in days old,he planted them a week yesterday with 100% success on all 5 seeds ,there doing well with there 1st set of proper leaves coming on strong,he wants to put then under a 400w hps,I have told him to wait till there a bit older an have a stronger root system say about 2-3 week old so they will stand a better chance ,has any grower put there seedlings under a hps at the young age of about 5 days they took 2 days to crack an sprout.

My plants are put on a 250 wat HPS from the beginning and are doing fine. Check my latest album. I burned them with some organo-karate kid nutrients, but that's another joke to tell :D

it's ok as long as you have proper ventilation and you keep the light far from the plants for the first days, then start to move it closer. start with the bulb at 50+ cm from the tops and go from there.

explo is right on but I wonder really how many people know about starting seedlings with flo's.I can keep the lamps 1/4 inch away from the tops for 7 to 10 days and guarantee and will be bigger, greener and healthier than the same seedling started under any size HID 150MH included.Flo's are just exceptional when used correctly for the first week or 10 days.If someone hadn't convinced me years ago about this advice I'm sure I'd be starting under a 400W too.Daylight flo=s are normally 6500K where C/W is about 4100K.I use daylight but either will blow away an HID at first

With more light comes the need for more food/nutes for proper photosynthesis.I germ seeds under fluoro's until their 3rd to 4th set of true leaves (unless the cotyledons yellow) then right under the H.I.D. they go.The only reason I start under fluoro's is the reason stated in the first sentence of my post...more light=more food needed for proper photosynthesis...so basically I like to wait until the seedlings are old enough to handle nutes.

But yes,as long as your friend starts them off with the light a good 18"-24" away and lowers the light by 3"-6" a day he should be fine.
