oops sorry for talking about subject unrelated to your thread, how long do you want to keep seeds for anyway? i've kept seeds in a zip lock baggie in a film container for 2 years and almost everyone germed, they were just seeds for outdoors so i didn't do anything special to save them for a long period. if you want to keep them for many many years then the freezer is no doubt the best way to do it.

CJ wow. I dont know where your coming from. I was talking about marijuana seeds, None other. To tell you the truth I didnt catch the Non-cannabis part. I did say I think this is silly. What I was talking about is me putting them in the freezer. I would go for a fridge but not a freezer. I didnt twist any words around. People get different things out of what they read. We retain different parts of the message more so then others.

Where did I state you were silly??? I didnt know "this" refurs to you.

Now if you wanna kindy talk about the subect thats fine. If not thats fine too.

Babbabud I agree there. It takes 2 to argue.

heres some on topic info for ya if my pm back to you wasnt enough....

the problem with a fridge is that every few days they cycle and temps inside can raise dramatically for a short period of time.
using one of these portable mimi fridges you get the benefits of solid-state of cooling with no fluctuations plus they arent frozen, just a nice amount below room temp, and of course, its a dust free environment inside, another plus.

I guess. BUt I was under the inpression you had them in the mini freezer in the mini Refridgerator. I guess you didnt say that but you didnt say they werent frozen either.

LOL

i keep seed in a 12v fridge, i also keep seed in a household freezer as described in my first post to this this thread, and i also store seed at slightly below room temp, in bags, in jars, in more bags to block light, and in a locker.. and more in sandwich bags, in half-gallon mason jars, at the op :D

and i did say i used the fridge, again, ya didn't read my original postings thouroughly enough. (not that it matters, this thread is headed no where as all grounds have been covered twice over...im out:Bolt:

take care.

Haha ... well firstly thanks for the help guys , its greatly appreciated.

2nd - I'll clarify on what I was specifically asking ... First - What is the most effective way to store seed ? Meaning what is the safest and most long term ... I now realize there is no one best method thanks to you guys...
And the 2nd comment I made was simply stating that from my knowledge it was in a freezer , I put this comment in there to #1 show that i've been researching independently as opposed to just coming to the board to ask without doing any work myself and also to use the freezer method as a starting point that someone could either agree with, refute or simply comment upon.

Time2Unite - I was thinking on storing for around 2 - 3 years MAX , although having the knowledge on something even longer wouldn't hurt either. I figure if I get my hands on a bunch of sick strands i'm not gonna grow them all at once and I may just go mother and clone route as much as possible so that I can get the most out of my seeds (before they DIE of course)...

So in conclusion - DRY and relatively immune to the environment is best ?? ... I had assumed freezing would work because the genetic structure of the seed would freeze intact as opposed to rotting away but then there's the freezer burn which I never anticipated :joint: ...

So cure the seed (if I do get seed it'll be through Nirvana so i'm assuming they're dried already ??) ...

Next air vacuum the package as much as possible then store in a mason jar so that air cannot pentrate the bag in any way ...

3 is the option of freezing or not ... Which of course either stores for longer or runs the risk of burn which is self defeating so its safest to just keep cool because higher temps will kill out seeds quicker ??

Thanks a million homies...

  1. yep. The dryer and protected the better
  2. Nirvana seeds will be throughly dryed.
  3. Keeping air, moisture, and light away are the main things to consider.
  4. yes the higher them temps are the worse it will be for keeping them safe.
  5. Unless you want them to go for more then 3-5 years dont freeze them. Other wise freeze away.
