Well you dont want them to get moist mold will come soon after that. I suggest using Small Ziplock baggies inside a larger one inside a larger one in a glass mason jar. They will keep for many years.

the freezer method is better for people keeping seeds long term and do not want decreased germination.

if you take caution not to remove , disturb, handle, play, or otherwise thaw the seeds above freezing, ya dont have to worry about mold.

keep them stored air tight with a vacuume sealer or ziplock bags, in the breeder packs or glass vials inside a rubbermaid shoebox inside the freezer on a rack/riser/tv dinner:D to prevent freezer burn.

you'll be fine, but dont take them out and fondle them, inventory them etc until you are READY TO USE THEM, and then quickly return things to the proper conditions and return to freezer. they will last as long as you.:bat:

i use a portable fridge 12v doesnt cycle so its a constant temp, and clean inside.. way better than a dresser drawer or mason jar, and dont cycle every few days like the kitchen fridge.

make sure theres no shake or plant matter with them.

optional:
add a few grains of dry white rice to each pack of seeds or if repacking them in vials/bags for storage after use.
rice is a natural dessicant.

HOw can you prove a mason Jar used with the seeds bagged and inside another ziplock is not as good as freezer? I dont know any other kinds of seeds stored frozen. If you have tryed storing them in a jar and had bad luck that one thing. In fact I think this is silly. I wont get my seeds near freezer burn, thats far worse then being packed in a dark place in the mason jar any day. As I have seen things in one ziplock inside another still get freezer burned. They also probably had moisture to begin with. I still wont take that chance I have been growing for 5 years + and have yet to see a decline in my germination ratio with seeds I have kept. just my :2cents: on freezing seeds.

he asked about freezing.

at any rate,

any reputable, legit heirloom seed company (non cannabis) does not keep seed any longer than the season they were packed for.

they dont store seed period. the plants are abundant and so is fresh seed as its LEGAL.
so what, you made that part up? or just YOU keep your seeds at room temp?

i have lots of seed in storage at slightly below room temp in a cool dry locker in jars as well, these mini fridges are tiny, i only use it for breeder packs,
im just answering the thread starters questions, stating some facts, and giving my method, rather than give my opinion on what is best and/or try to sell him on a certain method.

to each his own, gpb if youve had problems in the past with freezing your seed stash try doing it as stated in my post, 2 ziplock bags is definitely not the best way of doing it and if you read what i wrote and dont stray with the technique (you already have in describing it) , youll do fine. ps- they are supposed to be fully dried and cured before packaging, you say they already probably had moisture, i hope you are going through the proper steps in packaging your seed before storage, and better yet, what you are selling/sending to sb b/c they freeze them upon arrival, your seed must be fully dry :)
freezers..:jerkit:
most breeders keep their stash this way as does seedbay, but, hey, they must all be wrong, right?
I still wont take that chance I have been growing for 5 years + and have yet to see a decline in my germination ratio with seeds I have kept. just my on freezing seeds.
5 years is but a drop in the bucket as far as a cannabis seed's viability is concerned.
i have seeds soaking at this very moment that are older tha you have been growing and were stored improperly till i got my hands on them a few months ago.. stored your way, 10,15,20 years a seed kicks the bucket. i bet that with freezing (havent tried obviously) youd gain a few years on that easy.. 30? 40? who knows?

i do not wish to continue discussion on this GPB its silly.. do a search here and view some older threads on the matter for al the back and forth convo youd like, both ways are fine, freezer done right is bulletproof.

I keep mine in a plastic baggie with rice in a light proof envelope in the freezer. I just popped some year old seeds no problem, but that is the longest I have stored. Is the rice necessary? I can't remember where I read that.

Peace

I wanna kno why freezing is so loved.

I wanna kno why freezing is so loved.

hey dont attact me. I was wanting to talk to you about it.
any reputable, legit heirloom seed company (non cannabis) does not keep seed any longer than the season they were packed for.

Um.. Thats not true. I got a pack on seeds from last year at least. It was a pack of Skunk Red Hair. These seeds were pollenated by Skunkman. So I feel these are from seedsdirect from a while back. All Nirvana variety arent on the pack either.

he asked about freezing.
he asked what method was best. As he thinks freezing is for the long term. I use my seeds often So I would have to get into them weekly so a freezer program wont be worth it. I wont take that chance.

I didnt say that. I know they do store seeds because Gypsy stated seed batches get used in a month or 2 and are reorder to keep stock up. What about those Plural of Kush seeds they were giving out as freeebies. Those are so old. They just finally stoed sending those at the end of last year.

he asked for the best method and implyed it was freezing. Btut that he wasnt sure.

I never said freezing is bad. I said I wont be doing it. Yes I do dry my seeds. After the buds are dry and ready for smoking I remove the seeds and allow them to air dry for a few days then I pack them. In fact all seeds I have produced have had 100% germ rate. Untill this isnt true I wont change anything. As if its not broke dont fix it.

5 years is but a drop in the bucket as far as a cannabis seed's viability is concerned.i have seeds soaking at this very moment that are older tha you have been growing and were stored improperly till i got my hands on them a few months ago.. stored your way, 10,15,20 years a seed kicks the bucket. i bet that with freezing (havent tried obviously) youd gain a few years on that easy.. 30? 40? who knows?

Well I dont think im saving seeds for 30+ years. I dont need to save seed stock, well not too much anyway. In 20 years ill have new strains and seeds to go and play with. 10+ year isnt worth ruienin my seeds.

Thanks for sending that info this way. It was a good read this morning.

thats more than fair..i prefer to keep some seed frozen and some seed in mason jars, just like you. i'm not in disagreement that your method works.
As he thinks freezing is for the long term.
Sorry to burst your bubble, GPB, but freezing IS the method to use for the long term....can i have some of the weed you smoked before posting all this stuff? it had to have been some good shit:D

actually, he asked what the life span was in the freezer, see below for the question, and you can take the liberty of reading the last chop of my post that you quoted for my answer to him on how many years...

your so very welcome.
i hope you absorbed a few things, even though you'll never admit it.

you can come on back and blast away at me, if ya like...this will officially be the last post of mine here in this topic, so coming back and bashing me is certainly an excercize in futility.......
all i know is you were trying to make me look silly, or if not, you did it without realizing by twisting the facts and spinning the truth. the truth is in my words. your words, however, drive my mind in circles... and i had to set things straight regarding THE FACTS AS THEY ARE WRITTEN ORIGINALLY, NOT AS YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE THEM OUT TO BE.

game over.

have a nice day:smile:
