as i said in the thread:

it's quite obvious the seed will always sprout, no matter which way you plant it. the thing is, planting pointy-side-up will probably make your seedlings sprout faster than if it was the opposite way.

How ya figure?

So far, all i can see is stoners making their life really complex, paper towels, bubblers, transplanting after germination,etc... all i can see is people playing with seeds and eventually killing a few for the sake of seing the shell pop...

There is way too much MJ growing myths out there, way too much.

Stick em in dirt as Kov did :)

fair enough, although i don't find it complex planting a seed pointy side up myself. :D

kov's method took 6 days. i'd rather have mine up in 3!! :D

I'm not saying your way is not faster because there is no way of prooving that.

ceteris paribus ;)

As long as we agree that its not nessecary to use a specific position its all good, but that didn't come trough in your thread bro.

Its not rocket science, keep it simple.

WOW....my attempt at humour has fallen flat on its miserable pug face :bat:

hey buddy, ti's my probelm not yours... lol peace n smiles :D dL

In my limited experience, folical root hairs are easily damaged by handling,,, if/when we reduce the amount of handling that a seed recieves, we reduce the damage caused, and witness higher rates of viability as a result...

I do not think that any one way os necessarily better then any other.

Just planting the bean any old way in moist warm soil and let it do the job it has evolved to do with a preferrence to efficiency.

Soaking till they just crack and dropping them in the hole has always worked for me-its the part after they pop the soil I trouble with. lol.

Exactly 48 hours

Exactly 48 hours

Hello all,

Great thread. I saw the 48 hours to germ. It was coincidently exactly 48 hour since I started, so I figured I will take some pics too.

They spent exactly 24 hours in water, then 24 hours using the papertowel method in tupperware.

I used 12x chronic, 7x AK48, and 7x NL x Haze. The reason I chose such odd amounts is because I wanna keep the odds of having a female for the future. Here are the results at exactly 48 hours:

This is a side by side comparison.

The winner was the chronic :woohoo:

Second place goes to NL x Haze (thanks Gypsy)

And last place goes to AK48. I know that AK48 will catch up with the rest!! :pointlaug

As I set up my grow, I'll send some pics.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Yep,,,,exactly how i do it too....with a 1ml liquid oxygen in 1/2 litre water (warm).
More often than not they've started germing b4 they go in the papertowel.

nice thread. I also got 4 seeds germed (of 4) in 2 days and a half straight in soil. I think that stain and age of seed decides which perform faster and which not.

i have tried all kinds of ways.
1. the paper towels between 2 small plates.
2. soak 24hrs then into a ziploc between some papertowels or cloth.
3. straight up planting into soil no soak.
4. the rooter plugs.
5. papertowels in to the tupperware. Ohh i read either here or somewhere that papertowels with lil cutesy pictures on the PT might hinder the germ process. Due to the inks used in them. I dont know if this is true or not.Just read it somewhere.

IMO they all have worked for me. the best being #2. then #5, just adding my 2 copper coins to the mix. peace..

I have always germed with the wet paper towel in a ziploc in a dark area. 100% germination with all the seeds I've had. Although how wet the papertowel is seems to have some effect. With more water, the seeds seem to pop a little quicker. Granted I have yet to pull a successful grow, but they were running strong when my roommate asked me to pull the plug.

just thought i'd share this pic on the correct seed(ling) position.. it should be handy for those of you who 'do it the other way around'. :D

fear my MS Paint skills!

peace!

in my own personal experience, seeds planted pointed end down work best.
gravity-seeking taproot will grow straight down, wit NO ENERgY LOSS. I think your drawings are both incorrect.

Not sure that energy wasted is a huge factor at this point. The real activity takes place inside the seed even as it's splitting and the tap root is doing it's thing even as it makes that extra turn - it's providing moisture for the seed so it can continue to grow as well as growing downward to provide an anchor for the plant.

I'd be more concerned with the extra time before breaking the surface the seedling takes due to the time it takes to turn the leaf right side up when doing it pointy side down.

But after is all said and done, we may just be picking nits here. Seems like if nature didn't care too much about it, I probably shouldn't either. But that may just be the indica in me talking, hehe.

Peace

I used to germ the seeds and put them in soil after, but now I put them in wet soil or coco-coir and keep them at around 25 degrees Celsius, and in about 2 days I have healthy seedlings out of soil. This metod is good for fresh, viable seeds. For older seeds or seeds that take longer to crack is better to use pregermination metods like wet paper towels, and then put the germed seed in soil.

Since I germ by puting the seed in wet soil and wait I had over 90 % germination on good seeds!

good luck to all!

Just stick em in the dirt. Weed will grow anywhere. I think a lot of people kill seeds with 2 much love.

Now about that wasted energy. As with everything in this world its gota spend energy to become stronger. The more energy spent the stronger it becomes right? Thats logical
A pissy lil plant thats had it easy all its life. No thanks i'll take one thats had the hard road and is still standing. Tough strong resilient & proven itself :dueling:
