Seed Cracked w/ Small Taproot, Hasn't Grown

So, last weekend, I germinated a Dr. Who seed between wet paper towels. Two days in, the taproot was showing. Let it go another day or so, but no tap root growth. Put it in a small jiffy pot (?), the one with soil and mesh for seedlings and germination...I know, I read that is a bad idea with the jiffy pot things...no growth, no soil breakage.
Today, I put it into a starter soil in a small container in hopes that it is not lost.

Is there anything I can do to give the seed a chance?

I keep the seedlings in the paper towels for a little while after the taproot shows. You said your taproot didn't grow much within a day's time. Were the paper towels warm and relatively wet? And were they in darkness? If yes to these, then you may have gotten impatient. Not a big deal though, as long as the taproot is exposed, the plant should sprout up over time, it just might take a little longer than with seeds with longer/stronger taproots. I'd say just make sure the soil is moist and warm, and wait it out at this point.

I have a pet theory that since seeds are so valuable, only really perfect looking ones with thick, healthy hulls ever get put into seed packs. In nature we know that a lot of the seeds not pretty enough for the seed pack would grow fine, but those genetics are discarded in the $100/seedpack industry. In effect, the seed suppliers are selecting for genetics with heavier hulls and this has been going on for a couple decades now so it might be starting to show a substantial effect.

Thanks for posting this thread and giving me an opportunity to air my baseless theories.

@Student of Life - yes, it was in a warm and wet paper towel on a paper plate with another paper plate covering it.

I'm hoping it's just a slow grower, but I'll let it go in the starter soil in a small humidome under a floro and hopefully it takes off soon.
