Sealed Room Build

Do I need to run c02 or will I be fine as long as I'm scrubbing the air and have good airflow? The room is going to be roughly 20x14x8

I'm open to any suggestions

I would suggest getting the plants dialed, then starting up with the CO2.

My guess is, they will like it, but it's always good to see the difference from crop to crop (one crop without, one crop with).

Interesting thread. I just finished building my 8k flower room alongside my 2k veg room. Flower room is 10x17 I run 8 vertizontal reflectors. Totally sealed, supplemental co2, 36k mini split doing the cooling and a 70 pint dehu helping the RH stay even. I pull 5 gallons of water out of the air every 24hrs. Veg room is 7x15 and contains my clone/mother tent as well as various supplies, media, etc. My advice: split that room up and veg on the other side. I try and run perpetual and harvest every 4 weeks. I'm subed so keep the updates coming.

Peace

Thanks for dropping by. That's what my gut was telling me, and it seems like a more efficient use of space. For your veg, does 2k seem to be enough lighting to keep up with the 8 in flower? I just don't want to miss anything!

Hey thanks for the idea, that's something that wouldn't have crossed my mind.

Well, this will be the first run in the new veg space so I can't really answer that yet. However, I just upgraded from a 2k setup I ran for a couple years. And with that one I did all my vegging under t5's. so im thinking 2k will be plenty. In fact, I'm using adjustable ballasts, so when the plants are younger ill probably stick with 600 watts each light and move up from there as they get closer to flower.

Just a thought about co2: simply from my own recent experience. If your building a completely sealed room you should be careful about having too LITTLE co2. Remember, co2 is what plants breath, so if you wait to dial in your room before adding co2, you could be depriving your plants of some essential building blocks. Also, I run a co2 generator which will add some heat to your room vs having a tank. You need to consider this variable when dialing in your environment. Just some thoughts and have fun with your build. I had a blast with mine and learned a HeLL of a lot.

Ok guys, pretty big update.

Drywall, paint, flooring, A/C, electric and ducting for lights is all done. I'm doing a 10" pressurized line to 8" shoots to cool 9 lights with a 3 ton daikin mini split doing the rest of the cooling.

My plan is to run all Blockbuster hoods since I have my room set up for doing 4x4 area for each hood. They are all being powered by SolisTek digi ballasts and hortilux HPS bulbs.

I'm doing c02 in bottles since I have easy access for refills, which will be controlled by an Atlas 1. Got an 80 pint dehu along with the 40-50 pints the mini split pulls out.

Anything I'm overlooking?

oh yeah JB,
your coming along nicely :good:
sorry, it's been a while since I checked in here.

Yeah I've been looking into low ambient units already.
Friedrich seems like a good company, they claim to be usable down to 0 degrees. Any opinions on this?
Yeah, this is my first build and I'm trying to do it right the first time.
If anyone has any idea of something I might be looking over, definitely let me know!

freids are fine from what Ive heard from users that have em.
what did you finally end up getting?

I'm thinking along those lines also.
another thing to consider,
your sealed, run with the Co2 from the get go and get your learning curve down pat if this is your 1st time running sealed.
you'll lose weight=$$ just to see the difference unsealed imho.

after 4 yrs without enhanced C02 and going into sealed i can say for sure running my keepers,
the yield went thru the roof in my sealed room on the 1st run.
and this is making all kinds of mistakes in my *learning curve* during the 1st grow.
the keepers i had that would give me 100gr to 160grams in 3 gal/soil
gave me 200+grams to over 300grams with 1 pheno in 2 and 3 gal/soil

In a sealed CO2 enriched room... how do you handle oxygenating water for hydro? Would using an air pump with the air from the room be pumping CO2 into the water? Or is there still enough oxygen in the air for it to work?

with ambient co2 in the atmosphere around 350ppms,
and running 900-1500ppms...?
i mean were talking parts per million....
compare that to the amount O2 in the air @ 20.95%
and Co2 making up .039%......

think about that for a sec... :smoke:

No worries, didnt feel that way at all. I did post a thread about it and nobody responded. Thats why I asked again here as it seemed to apply to this discussion as well . But I probably got no responses because its not really anything to worry about. People were probably looking sideways at my thread going "WTF is this guy talking about?" and scratching their heads.

No worries, I haven't updated at all. I went with a 36k btu Daikin with A/C only. It operates fully until -4 degrees and they offer an extreme ambient kit for this unit that is good for -40 which im looking into!

Also i've decided to use c02 in the first run for the reason you just said, to get the learning curve down.

Good call on the cO2, get a good controller to keep the levels correct and hang it up high with your monitor on the far end of the room to make sure it's getting well
spread around.

Hey everyone. Everything is fired up and working as planned. Here's some pics:

I'm going to have to veg in here for my first round, should I turn some of the lamps off or turn them down to 400w? I'm wondering because I don't want to fry my veggies. They're all about 8-10" tall fully rooted in final pots.

Let me know what you think!

thats about as satisfying a feeling you can get firing those lamps up for the 1st time :D

i veg'd my 1st round also,
i went 50% power for a few days then cranked it up and they took to it quick.
lol... all mine fit under 1 lamp but within a few 2-3 weeks i had all 6 lamps running 100%

there is no way to air cool lamps enough to not use A/C

I would run lights in 2 rows and push air from the room through a scrubber and a fan and through the lights, maybe even 2,one each row

and 1000 ppm CO2

and lots of A/C, mid to higher 70's if ya can, a bit higher and just bump CO2 up a bit
