SE Asian Land Race Breed Project

Hello. Want to put up some photos of plants that have collected around SE Asia.

Picture sets will be labeled, but as of yet have only traveled and collected seeds from Thailand (south), Cambodia, Laos, Borneo, China, and Taiwan. No pictures/info of where they are growing at time of photo, just say all seeds are not grown in the place collected, they collected on vacation.

Also, the seeds collected form Laos/Cambodia were not quite mature (close) is there a way to get them to germinate? I have read about HA3, is there a way to get these to germinate, don't think can risk getting seeds in those countries again through borders/airports (scary coming through Thai border and also coming home).

Here are some photos of plants starting with. The plan is to keep each locale "pure" only breeding it within its own peers. Meaning the seeds collected from XX location will stay breeding with each other. Hope to make better quality plants as time progresses with these, and without "muddying the water" if that is proper English term (?).

First plants. These are collected in Taiwan. Not many landrace, and many mixed imports that grow there i am told. But some people grow out in wild, fortunate to meet them when there. Think it is sativa.

These pics are of both male and female (first goal is make seeds). Right now there are 2 male and 2 female and 1 unknown. Also 6 more seeds left, but poor germination on these :( Male #1 also go hermie, but only after already burst and pollinate female #2, so just leave it now and let it produce seeds. Who know what it produce. Trial run for quality is indoor so can get rid of any bad plants later, right now just try and get as any seed as can.

this is day 9/13 of flowering. If people have tip son how select better genes etc that well good! Want to improve these to make better timing, taste and quantity. The quality is very high and energetic, good sativa type feel, very good in that regard just needs cleaning and making better/bigger yields.

damn, im growing a plant from about the only se asian place you be missing seeds from lol.

n vietnam bagseeder ive got going, looks pretty similar to your plants. (went there last year :))

by far, the best smelling plant i have and its barely 2 weeks old (lousy germination rate, 2 out of 30 seeds (got some left though) last one male, but a great one, this one has a more complete smell to it, rather sure its a female.

the smoke it came from was pretty good, although mostly leafs and stems and just tiny tiny buds (no crystals visible)

4-5 tokes and you were seeing shimmering colors in shadows lol, took me awhile to handle the paranoia (the cops there are brutal, but after the hotel staff actively protected me during a raid (that actually hit nearby hotel (hookerraid..(they want bribes..))

well, then there was nothing to be paranoid about lol (i think paranoia mostly comes from other people, not really the weed itself)

good luck with your stuff man! happy growing! :D

some pics of this persons plants.

excuse my English, I don't speak this language very well.

So of 4 plants it is 2 males and 3 female. 1 male is gone female/male, i think you call this "hermie", yes?

But friend does not pull that plant because already cross with females and dont like starting new project with only one of either sex.

Right now these are wild strains and grown outside, so not very compact or pretty looking now. First try and select for faster flowering and shorter plants if can. Good thing is this (i think it is all sativa) is triggered by light alone to flower which is nice. also takes cuttings easy in water.

One problem think will be bad is slow flowering time. Already these flowering since October 15 and still very small. But also not heavy fertilize and cold weather lately (18-23C).

Male = "Hermie" (please correct me if my terminology is wrong).

yes you are correct, hermie is the term we use to describe intersexed plants.

lovely plants too. must of been interesting crossing over those borders. was shipping them back home not an option?

Thank you :) Hermie, i remember for sure now. may I ask what to call the flower before it is real flowering but you can know male or female? Maybe "bud"?

Crossing border is not ever easy, and very risky, this is why so few seeds.

On that trip she actually go cambodia first, bring seeds, land border cross into laos get more seeds, land border cross into thailand get more seeds, fly to burma dont find seeds there, fly to china get seeds, fly back to bangkok and then fly home. land borders are very easy in SE asia, especially poor areas. Cambodia laos border is really a joke, like outhouses for the customs workers office. Thailand, Burma and Malaysia are very scary to try and do things illegal in. Mailing is option, but the country this girl live in is VERY strict (death penalty) for drug trafficking, and mail customs there is very good. Airport is very easy and dont check anything. Scary scary, what can say? no risk no glory :)

Well. More pics as they progress, and of the resulting babies etc. Also have some female cuttings taken when it already start flowering so now they are under 24/7 lights and still not switching to vegetation mode. 4 weeks under lights now. She keep these to be unpollinated by male.

"preflower" as in before flower.

that makes sense that you didn't mail them, death penalty. ouch!
how long were you traveling around asia? i would love to do that one day.

I have had a few Vietnamese friends and i always wanted to go back with them.

very good, thank you for that. I can now have a good understanding of English terms for plants, instead of using google translator which isnt always good.

We live in Asia, but often spend 1-2 months a year travelling out of country :)I say though, the weed in Asia isnt as high quality as north america (i also travel to west canada and usa) but the high is much higher. i think here more sativa and less indica maybe why.

Thank you for the picture, helpful!!!

have a question. have some rooted cuttings now, but taken too late and the plant started to flower sooner than thought before taking the cutting. so now they are only about 10-15cm tall and flowering. they are under 24/7 indoor light but not revegetating, the container is filled with roots, but they jsut not grow at all, any ideas? fertilizer wasnt added at first, but was after 3 weeks or close.

...

its actually very easy getting seeds or whatever in and out of these countries.

if you know anyone there.

i wouldnt want to just go there and trust on my people skills, i would take my time anyway in selecting the right people to ask and do that very discreetly. :)

cops are crooked and often in cahoots with the criminals (lol , much more obviously so than in the west :))

though if you had alot of bribe money you could probably buy your way out of many situations..

but i´d acquire friends before connections. (and wouldnt trust any connection outside of friends (unless i had a pretty savvy nose for people ;) lol)

I think yes, finding seeds is very easy. If you have money to bride, you can probably save time and jsut buy seeds from police in many places. but these places are not places you want to meet the one legitimate police officer, the jails over there are not nice!

It is easy to bring seeds back, the problem is risk. Airports in most major cities will not be corrupt like that, you go jail if they find it there. so hiding is important. in that respect its more dangerous. Mail also dangerous because they get you singing for package. always risk, but being smart keep 99% safe. land borders in SE Asia are very easy, but Thai/Malaysia are more rich and have more equipment/people and both are very anti-drug. Dogs are scary sniffing around. Try to keep seeds out of you bag and body, keep them hidden in train/bus then can deny.

I have more question, about fertilizer. Is Hyponex any good? Hard to find branded fertilizer here so I wonder. Its all imported so also only in foreign language i dont understand. this is the hyponex 10-30-20 powder to mix with water.

So broke off a branch when walking by, here it is. Seeds seem close to ready, starting to brown up inside. Consider this is a landrace am happy to see -ok- amounts of thc on it, and also bee rainy or cloudy about 90% of time. So wonder what look like with indoor lights.

The aroma is spectacular, reminds of honey dew mellon, very fresh/sweet smelling.

Also start working on some records (if anyone have link to good discussion on record keeping, be great). Here is list of current goals, might get changed later. Be happy to get anyones feedback if think something should be added.

In order of importance
1. Make shorter/more compact
2. reduce flowering time (this is over 100days already)
3. improve ptency, thoguh this is already very strong smoke and its not ready/cured.
4. no "Hermie" (right now the girls are strong, they dont hermie with various stress tests so far, it the males that are doing this)
5. thicker/denser buds (this run is for seeds, so cant tell what its liek without male)
6. red purple color.

right now already an easy plant to take cuttings from and is strongly triggered by light, want to maintain these.

Thank you :) Me too like sativa, because we work while using this plant so need energy as well, not just "couch lock".

I see many breeders/grower abroad like hybrids a lot, and quality is very good. but sativa can be psychedelic, which very nice at times.

Many people here i read type sativa not so many resin. Do you mean the Trichomes? why people say this? I think White Widow is all sativa, right? no I wonder.

Since last post have chopped down all males and letting some female clones of each 3 females grow out without pollen (its raining a lot sadly, but good for get rid of pollen)

Also sow about 200 seeds, these will be grown up to 10" and sexed and planted in the mountains. Hope they do ok, but know that too late and rain season will get them in May....but dont try dont know. if all fails, at least get exercise and a some fun experience.

Here are some more pictures.
