lol, mobot. I just never notice them I guess. When I was younger, my parents would always say, "feel that?!" I never would. Hahahahhaa.

Shit, seriously? When did it hit? Wait, how much of a time difference is it, California and Australia? Hope he's good.

troo, but i'm wondering how many plants and if he utilized topping to get so many tops...check my thread and you can see what i did with strictly lst. personally, i cant see how adding a screen would have given me a better output.......

Haha, yes that's it exactly b00m! Sheeeit, I didn't even know there was an earthquake! Thanks for the concern all, I'm fine. Glad you're safe, b00mster.

Man, so many posts, I'll just do the most pressing. Hope nobody feels ignored or whatever!

Scrub, what's the maximum grow height you get above the screen in your set up and what would be the maximum useable height for say 4 55W pll lights?

I think I have about 10" or 11" if I grow right up between the lights, as I do. The height question is tricky to answer. In the first grow, it seemed to penetrate about 8" quite well. I thought that was quite thick growth at the time but this one is far thicker. I added the 4th bulb (almost against my will!) because it's just so tightly packed and I could tell it won't penetrate as far.

If you've seen a grow like b00m's earlier ones with the big massive colas, but very sparse spacing, well the light would reach a lot further. Not really sure what's gonna happen this run because PK has a different growth pattern than I'm familiar with - It's big long branches, packed all the way with "small" nuggets, and I use the term small in the sense that they aren't one huge long cola. I'll post a pic tonight and you will see what I mean.

Do you top and LST? How long veg? How many ladies is that?

Yeah man, one plant from fem seed, I tipped it once or twice and later took like 8 clones, being sure to do it at just the right time so there's an extra node left under the cut. It grows back super bushy and I did some simple LST so it grows out instead of up.

Sprouted the PK early Feb (4th), and flipped 1st April. I had extreme heat (and other) problems when it was a seedling, so it was a little stunted early on. It's just her in the scrog. The Leda Uno on the back shelf was sprouted approx 18th Feb, and flipped same time. I just tipped and LST'd that.

PK timeline:

(took clones)

My eyes are shot, so hopefully I clicked the right thumbnails, lol. They're all in order anyway and show up to the placement in the scrog cage.

I don't think there's too much difference between scrog and lst, I just went with scrog to keep it perfectly in shape. The first run (LSTd) the colas were all over the place and lost me yield because I had to keep it away from the fans and such. Just sliding out the tray was a major mission. With a scrog, it's no problem.

Thanks for following everyone! Pics tonight. It's stretching as much as ever and running outta space rapidly but I'll make it. I think I caught my first whiff of grape last night. Peas.

Wait till you see tonight's pics :D

The main thing imo, is to keep all the grow tips at the same height. If you have an unpinched plant and lean it over, all the other tips now get as much energy as the top one was getting. They'll all grow at a more similar rate now. As one shoots up too far, pinch it, tip it, LST it, scrog it, whatever, but keep them all at the same height. The effect is called Apical Dominance, and you basically remove the ability for shoots to dominate. The more even you keep them, the less you have to worry about keeping them even. :)

In plant physiology, apical dominance is the phenomenon whereby the main central stem of the plant is dominant over (i.e., grows more strongly than) other side stems; on a branch the main stem of the branch is further dominant over its own side branchlets.

The apical bud (or tip) produces the growth hormone auxin, which not only promotes cell division, but also diffuses downwards and inhibits the development of lateral bud growth which would otherwise compete with the apical tip for light and nutrients. Removing the apical tip and its suppressive hormone allows the lower dormant lateral buds to develop and the buds between the leaf stalk and stem to produce new shoots which compete to become the lead growth. Manipulating this natural response to damage (known as the principle of apical dominance) by processes such as pruning (as well as coppicing and pollarding) allows the horticulturist to determine the shape, size and productivity of many fruiting trees and bushes.

Damn Scrubs. You're always so danged educated on all of this. Hahaha. At least we all know where to go for questions. hahah.

Hey friend Scrub I have a electrical question for you, I used to do electric work and never did anything like it. I have LED power lights in my grow case that I've been running on batteries. Now would you know if it is possible is run four or five LED lights on the same ac to dc adaptor that is running the case fans,(it is 1amp)? Thanks :tiphat:

Thanks Ray  Just try to keep them interesting, lol. If anyone asks me again which kelvins of PLLs to use I will have a meltdown ;)

Ghost, that is a great question! Phew! I've never done it, but here's my suggestion: First inspect the unit to try to see if it lists it's voltage or power needs. If no luck, inspect how the batteries fit in. For instance, I think an AA battery is 1.5v. So if one led unit takes 3 x AA batteries, and the batteries are connected in parallel, then the unit needs a 1.5v power supply. If the 3 batteries are connected in series, it would need a 4.5v power supply.

So hopefully that allows you to work it out? If one LED unit takes 1.5v then you would need 8 of them wired up in series to match your (presumably) 12v supply. Wiring in series would be a poor choice though. It would be better to run a 1.5v adapter and wire as many as you need in parallel.

Hopefully that's all correct, that's how I'd do it anyway. No idea how you would ascertain the amperage needed though. Probably run it on batteries first and use a multimeter or something. Also, you would probably want a regulated supply for something like LEDs....not really sure. But voltage can vary on some designs of adapters. You know how some wall-warts are heavy as shit, and some are very light? Well that's part of it.

In case it's not obvious, you would hook the wires to the battery terminals, assuming they have no direct input jack.

Well I'll just go straight to the pics before my head asplode!

Well, maybe not, because it doesn't seem to be uploading? Might be my internet, it's been buggin' out all day. Anyone know if it's an IC problem? It just keeps uploading/submitting without ending.

10,000k doing it's thing! Like I said it's the stretchiest plant I've ever seen but the nodes seem super tight compared to the PK. I should have had all the bulbs in right through the first few weeks for the PK. Ah well. The 4th light did have a good impact on stopping the PK stretch for the one night it's been in. Temps are fine - top of cab temp is like 78º right now.

PK scrog:

I flipped the orientation so the front is now the back so the other side gets a little 10k love. Soon I'll probably put the 10k in the centre of the 3 bulbs over the scrog.

:tiphat:

Thanks Scrubs, I would give you more rep for that info but I need to spread some around before giving more to you. :tiphat:

So using Scrog method between 8" (20cm) and 10" (25cm) for best growth and possibly 12" (30cm) if prepared to have some popcorn buds at the bottom.

If using Sog method then maybe good growth to 12" (30cm) due to them all being little budsicles so they would have better penetration between them?

So what kelvin tubes are you using? :Bolt: :peek:  :biglaugh:
j/k

Definitely put the 10,000 kelvin tube in the middle, always put the odd spectrum tube in the middle to even out the SPD.

Hey bro no probs and thanks for the input. It's a little too complicated to tell the whole story, but basically that rear shelf is severely height restricted, thus it got the 10k, and I regret nothing. :) Imagine if the LU had a "stretchier" light! The PK is stretchy as crap too, but how it looks now is pretty much what I envisioned it would look like, and have allowed for it. Hopefully the stretch is dying down now and it can fill out a little.

The measurements you summarised are about right but that varies on a lot of things. But yes, it all revolves around density really. This is only my second grow with these lights that didn't totally suck, so I'm getting used to them as much as anyone else is. :tiphat:
