Yeeee thats what im talking about!
I have never super cropped, would you recommend it for my scrog?
in your situation I would train the branches on top of the screen, not under it. tie them down with velcro.
when you pull them under, it makes it hard to reposition, so save that technique for when you know the strain.
I you crush the stems you will get increased branching. If you are in the northern hemisphere I would not do that because you will be harvesting in the fall when RH is lower. I you were going to harvest in July it would be a good idea to encourage branching and smaller buds.
if you do above the screen with ties, the the scrogs gonna be all over the place, bit harder to control imo, shoots will just take off, so they'll need repostion too, mmm! that sounds complicated! for me it'd be alot easier to fix n train under! its whatever works.
any new pics yet BET?
ps starting to see nice little white pistils springing up all over the place
Sweet
Pictures..!
Im doing my first scrog right now and im wondering what you mean by training under the net. Im guessing its when you just pull down the stems under the net? Do you tie them down like lst under the net too?
Thanks!
Sorry for the lack of pictures. My Cannon POS camera has died (pro tip: don't let kids play with expensive camera's). My phone camera, despite being sweet has this horrid banding across the screen and will not focus correctly. I've taken dozens with it but I believe its the spectrum of the HPS that is shafting the focus and banding. I can't really post them up they are gutter shite.
Anyway, you are correct. Training under the net is literally letting them grow up and through the net naturally and when they reach 2-4" above the net, you simply pull the stem back through and place where you want aka a hole in the screen further away, therefore meaning the stem has to reach further from the main plant and the result is that it will be lower in the screen height wise. You'll then find that with correct pruning of the larger fan leaves, you'll create enough space for light to reach the lower nodes on the same stem and these will naturally stretch for the available light and eventually (quicker than you think!) go up through the screen as well - in holes closer to the center.
There isn't a need to tie them off at this point. The screen IS the tie . I have thought before now that I'd need to tie them down under the screen if needs be or even above the screen, but you'll be surprised just how much bending and re-arranging these things will take. Obviously you have to be careful with more developed parts of the stem as they can snap easily, but providing you are playing with the ends of stems mainly, you'll find these to be fresh and more importantly, supple. They will bend easily. The number of shoots that were getting out of control after a busy bank holiday weekend, and I was literally bending them back on themselves in a 'U' shape to get them into newer holes, was incredible. I thought about leaving them to just grow upwards, but they were only 2 weeks into their 12/12, and scrogerman said to leave them for around 4 weeks. That will be tight for me, but I'll get them as close to that as I can.
Pro tip: (LOL @ pro) when vegging, don't be too scared about bending or snapping branches. You can do this in veg without too much trouble and you'll find their bounce back ability is phenomenal. If you mean to do this, its called super cropping, if you fuck up and just break them then well, you've just learned how to super crop! jk jk... there is more to it than that, but I guess I'm trying to say that if you do snap something in veg, don't worry too much. The plants are fantastic healers. In flower its different because too much stress at that point can hermie your plant. Some strains seem to be more sensitive than others. E.g my honey B strain was super sensitive to nutes, but this cheese strain eats them up and asks for more. It all builds experience, and learning what works. I read a lot... anything I can find. I know how to research and make an educated guess off of several pieces of material (never guess off just one piece of information), but nothing will substitute getting your hands dirty and experiencing something. Some of my best lessons in life have come from my own failure. People who tell you otherwise, are probably full of shit

ps once I can get a god damned working camera, I will post pics
pps I have had to 'weave' a couple of branches at this point in the cycle. I really didn't want too, but I've done what I can to ensure they have space. If you weave stems through the screen rather than train under it, you'll risk more work later on if things start to get hairy space wise. Hopefully I won't have to do anymore, and it was because I've been away over the weekend that some grew too high to pull back through... so I have no option but to settle for sloppy second choice
Cool 180 is more then enough thenBET said:Luckily I have 180cm of height to grow into - not that is will need half of that - but its an old wardrobe I took apart them gave it a new life in the attic. Although this strain is meant to be small, I am doing scrog because of the 150W HPS having abysmal penetration, so growing normally would not see anywhere near the sort of yield I could get with scrog.
Yeah its crazy how much they can take! Ofc you should be careful, but if you do break a stem it will probably just be alrightBET said:I just managed one more set of training on some of the stems to get them where I wanted them. At the start I was so gentle, but they can take a lot more than that so I'm literally just pulling down and threading back up somewhere else - they just recover so easily.
Cool man! Im also a pretty big chilli fan, as i said my work involves growing chillis, i breed and sell chilli seeds etc. Too bad i can't tell you anything more about it or send any pictures cus i use them on other sites you know..BET said:Chillis FTW! I'm a chilli fan, I have just finished the last of some dorset naga that we have had a couple of years. Were getting a bit weak after 4 years in the freezer, but still hot enough to make most of my friends eye's water. When they were new, they gave you ulsers. Awesome.
Hahaha really?? Thats crazy But fun that she enjoyed them! Did they smoke any?BET said:I grew at my parents when I was 18 (over a decade ago now) and grew outdoors. The first year I got away with telling them it wasn't illegal to grow, only illegal to sell (the shit you come out with as a kid lol), and whilst they were growing I'd frequently find my mum down the garden sniffing and admiring their beauty. Happy days.

Wise choice with the scrog, even if you have a 150w or 600w i believe you almost always get a bigger yield
You should go for a tent and Cooltube with a 400w mate!

I love the dorset naga man, its crazy hot and fun to grow!
Im currently growing a cross ive been working on for years, im growing it in extreme lights and very high temps to try and create the hottest chilli ever! God i hope i succeed
Hahaha really?? Thats crazy But fun that she enjoyed them! Did they smoke any?
Anyways take care mate! Im of to take care of my big bang!
Here are 4 updated pics taken today
As you can see, its filled up nicely, and I managed yet another set of pulling back through the screen and repositioning. I also had a good trim of fan leaves. I probably won't trim much more as its getting further into flower - don't want to stress it much more.
I'm going to give up saying 'this is the last time I can train it under the net'.... because it just keeps surprising me how easily I can do it after a good trim. Its important to keep trimming for not only air flow, but certainly for me its been more important to be able to actually see what can be positioned where when you retrain.
Anyway, here they are. I can guarantee I'll get at least double from this than growing normally, maybe more.. I've many more bud sites, neary 3 times as many as last time in a normal grow, and I'm making better use of the light penetration.
