Schizophrenic's New Indoor Aero\NFT Grow Room

Hi Schiz,

Very nice! Looks like someone else was reading last months HT.. :joint:

I've been building the same systems, though modified slightly.. mine uses 5" vinyl fence posts for channels and I also went to 3" net pots (actually Aeroflo net pots and I bought their caps as well in case I need to leave a site empty). The other mod I did was to incorporate an adjustable drain to be able to keep some water in the channels in case of a power failure. A better solution is to get a couple of computer UPS's for the pumps.. Since I already had a 18 site clone bucket, I didn't need to build any cloners.

Mine are also sized a bit differently.. in veg, I have 2 channels x 6 sites on 7" centers. This works perfectly for the 8 tube t5 panel I use for veg. On the flower systems, I went 2 x 3, on 15" centers, with the idea I can let the plants get a bit larger. For lighting, I have 2 x 1k HPS, with 4' reflectors on a mover, with the bulbs about 56" above the channels.

Here a couple of questions for you...

I noticed 1980 ppm on meter in one photo, and would like to hear about the nute levels you're using? As far as the HT article, I have to say BS on the 3000 ppm mentioned there.. Me, I started out on veg at about 800 ppm on freshly rooted clones, went up to a bit over a 1000 ppm, and basically over fertilized it all..

Cycle time? I started out at 1 min on, 4 off.. this, combined with the nutrients wasn't working. Plants looked both over fertilized and over watered.

Now - running about 500-600 ppm in veg. Cylcle time is 10 min. on, 30 min. off. Tried to recover the first set of clones but it was taking way to long.. Reloaded the system last Sunday and it's rockin' now!

Last, how are your reservoir temps? I saw you were dealing with some heat earlier in the thread. Are you using any H2O2 to prevent root rot?

Peace,

Farmer Rich

Actually I followed his thread on RIU and had the ball rolling before it made high times. Well deserving of the article, its a great system.

All good modifications. I stuck to the original plans for the mostpart and figured I would modify as needed. So far I have yet to run into any problems so I guess if it aint broke, I wont fix it. :)

What nutes are you using? Currently using botanicare I veg at about 1200ppm and flower at around 1800ppm, depending on strain.

Cycle time? I started out at 1 min on, 4 off.. this, combined with the nutrients wasn't working. Plants looked both over fertilized and over watered.

I run 1 minute on, 5 off. I'm sure your increased rail size and the fact you retain a water level in the rails now instead of allowing them to drain fully led to having to adjust your pump cycle.

Last, how are your reservoir temps? I saw you were dealing with some heat earlier in the thread. Are you using any H2O2 to prevent root rot?

I'm in a basement with concrete floors, I have not had any issues with rez temps.

Thanks for stopping by! :joint:

Hi Schiz,

I'm using AN Sensi as a base, adding Big Bud and Overdrive in flower.. avoiding sugars, my experience has been that they create a scum in the tank within a couple of days. I think what's a little whacked is that AN markets the sugar based nutes as "hydro" but when you call the support line, doesn't recommend premixing them. I do use carb load and bud candy, but am dropping it on the aero stuff. I'm currently only running at a bit over 500 ppm with a ph of 5.6

My reservoirs are also on concrete and seem to be staying below 72.. flower room may be a different story.. find out in a couple of weeks.

I'm getting some symptoms today of overwatering, some leaf tips turning down with no changes in color. I figure this is probably related to the cycle time.. or the 1/2" of water in the bottom of the channels.. It does make sense to me that my start-up issues were purely related to nutes and not cycle time.

Cool thread, really helping me get things dialed in. Almost makes you feel like a noob when changing growing methods.. I always used soil-less mix, #3 pots hand watering, but my clone bucket made me a convert aero.

Peace, Farmer Rich

very impressive K+.

i love the photo of all those botanicare bottles, ha, probably the least exciting photo to most, but yeah everythings awesome.

whats ruff estimate of price of the whole setup? just curious. way out of my league

Primo system and great thread! Definitely a goal of mine to get a quality system like this going. I don't think aeroponics can be beat as the most efficient nutrient delivery system.

Just wondering if you or anyone knows, if there is any build up of any kind, mineral deposits or slime, inside the tracks that hold the misters after a couple gardens? Any periodic cleaning?

I would sterilize everything between grows no matter what medium.

Agreed sterilizing between grows is good. Though jobs require a different method. The track that holds the net pots and the roots looks like it would be awkward. What do you use and how?

the roots come out very easily if you simply let them dry and pull em out. a tiny bit of bleach and hot water does the job for your rinse. it's pretty simple. you can also take the unit apart quite easily, the only thing you would need to do is re-silicone the end caps if you do a complete tear down.

Sweet Schizo, that's the info I was looking for, just wasn't sure if there was much or any mineral deposits over time.

Thanx
