Man where I'm from the gas has gone up to 1.50/L in the last bit.. rising and falling the lowest I've seen in a while 1.26/L.. So at 1.50/L x 3.785 = 5.68$ a Gallon.. Ca you imagine that? fookin' sux when to fill up a minivan it's 90 bucks!

Arriving Da Nang/China Beach

Arriving Da Nang/China Beach

We were up quite early to check out of the Caravelle and get ourselves (and our growing amount of luggage :biglaugh: ) to the airport in time to catch our Vietnam Air flight that would take us to Da Nang. It was raining out, again...but I was hopeful we'd soon be seeing the sunshine from our next hotel which is situation directly on China Beach. We had no idea what sort of place our next hotel would be, I had picked it out from a Lonely Planet book, but from all indications it was supposed to be a deluxe beachfront resort.

Da Nang is where the next possibility of Gypsy being able to obtain some seeds that he had heard about would be.

I always like to sit by the window so I can take pictures. Most of the time the photos I take from the air don't turn out quite like I had envisioned...lol...but I think these I snapped as we broke through the clouds descending into Da Nang show some spectacular views.

Hop on and take a ride down with us.................

Finally through the clouds and I was spellbound by the beauty of the landscape which was in clearer view now

The mountains were so majestic and peaceful looking. It all appeared so vibrant...with a lush green of varying degrees against a pinkish blue in the distance.

Touch down.....Da Nang

Not much traffic here....not at all a bustling fast paced airport filled with a lot of travelers...there was no jetway/ramp here but after a short stroll from the plane we were soon inside gathering up our prompt arriving luggage. Gypsy spotted our driver and we were now be on the way to the resort.

Mossad

I like the idea of stange food, I never loved much of what my mom ate. Some of what she cooked was to much but so good, learning about other cultures is great and fearful. We don't always know how to fix ourselves just right; neat combos, sounds like a good way to get off drugs like tobacco (non native).

Surely people do want non native things around, mixing is hard stuff (ya grow peyote in the jungle, it's a different one after some time; well more time means more different).

Thanks guys, I think I know a Nam vet in town who may be ready to lie down...sad old man.

Da Nang was a major air and sea-port during the Vietnamese conflict with the Americans back in the 1960's and 70's....This was the first place in Vietnam many of the U.S. troops who fought in that terrible war saw.......But today in 2008 it looked like a busy sea-side resort and city with a population of around 1 million people......alot of sea-freight passes thru Da Nang and to me as I drove in on the taxi from the airport I could see plenty of different industries and building works in progress, many of them orientated towards the tourist.......

I called my contact Mr Ho (psudonymn), a Vietnamese guy that had grown up in Canada and learned how to grow the forbidden plants somewhere north of Vancouver, British Columbia.....He sounded pleased to hear my voice for it had been around 3 years since I had met him on another continent.....and we agreed to meet up later that evening at the Furama Resort for dinner....

As usual I did'nt mention anything concerning what I had come to find on the phone, but hoped to either aquire or find a lead to some good local seeds from this fellow....and I would have to wait till dinner time to find out....

So myself and D.G. checked into this wonderfull place by the sea and relaxed for a while staring out at the white sand beach and admiring the architecture of the place whilst savouring some of the local fruits and pastries......till I past-out and had a little siesta....

China Beach was truly pristene...not a speck of trash/garbage/pollution anywhere in sight. We arrived at the resort to quite a welcoming...staff waiting to greet us and show us to a sofa to relax on, handing us a nice cold scented refreshing cloth and a smoothie type drink made of mangos and lychee fruits. We were advised that since it was still considered off season and the resort was not full, that we would be upgraded to their largest suite. (Going in off season has it's advantages!)

After a brief time in the lobby going through the formalities of checking in, we were escorted to our suite...and it was sweet, in many ways.

It is always a warm and welcoming feeling to find goodies left to enjoy as you settle in

In typical SE Asian fashion, flowers adorned every room

Our balcony faced the beach...giving the most uninterrupted views, with the gentle sound of the ocean waves, it was a truly peaceful and relaxing place.

I've been to many beautiful beaches, in many different locations, but they all now seem to pale in comparison to this!

Gypsy contemplating if there will be seeds available here...while enjoying the stunning views from the balcony.
