So do you ever take the root mass out of the bucket to clean the entire res? If not, how do you prevent buildup from nutrients and calcium and such? I really like your pump system, and that would solve all my problems with removing the plant from the bucket, but I'm worried that once it's SCROGed I won't be able to clean the res out and things could get nasty in there.

You need to leave your roots alone. Just clean your bucket after harvest. I don't have buildup problems. If you want, you can drain and fill with water a few times before changing your nutrients. I have not had the need to to this.

I drain and fill with pure water the last ten days before harvest

I never remove my plants from the buckets until harvest.
