Rooting fanleaves for extra root growth?

Heres the idea...

For added root growth and mass, could you cut off the tip of a fanleaf like you would a clone...discard the cut off part, dip the cut part attached to the plant still in root hormone, root, and plant to get more roots?

Any input?

why would you try to hormone treat your leaf...roots are not growing there...no i would never dip a cut leaf in hormone but i dont use clone gel or any of that shit anyway

but the plant already knows how to put on root mass...just give the plant what it needs and it will make roots..i have never had a problem with root mass..do you? if so its temps or nute regimen or ph...peace...the leaves and photosynthesis assure that you will have roots accordingly

To clarify the post a little more. I take it you are saying cut a portion of the leaf off, the leaf is still attached to the plant via the stem. At the cut end of the leaf, again leaf is still attached to the plant, you want to treat the cut portion with rooting hormone, bend it on over and cover the cut leaf portion containing the rooting hormone with dirt basically in the same pot as the plant is in.
Ok, that would/should work, but I don't think you will get the results you are expecting. I believe the leaf will root...eventually, but it will not build root mass to sustain the "Mother" plant. It will become it's own entity. A clone if you will. Any roots put forth from the leaf will be used to sustain the "new plant" not the "mother plant".
Should be a fun experiment, and when it does root just cut the stem going to the mother plant and you can transplant your new clone as normal.
Let us know how it goes if you decide to do it. :joint:

Eh? Did I catch that wrong, or are you (whizzard) saying you can clone using just a leaf? I've never heard of that before...And OG was a "now I've heard it all" goldmine....

I'll save ya a lot of time and tell you to spring for some hygrozyme. You'll get the results you seek. It's like steroids for the roots.

Because it does not make sense for most plants to create a symbiosis like that you need to plant the plan from the stem of the other one thusly it would use the same root system to feed itself. They would not get the same symbiosis if you would try and get roots to form together some how.

damnit...i said not the leave..... when you take a cutting......theres 2 parts...
a. the part on the left..that is still attached to the plant..
b. the part on the right that is attached to the cutting..

CHUCK THE CUTTING...root the >>>>>STEM<<<<<< that is still attached to the plant!

not the leaf....
not the leaf....
not the leaf....

does this clarify?

ahhhh.. but to be fair look at what u said and the title, "rooting fanleaves".

cut stems might root, go try it, only takes a few weeks to show.

if i get a plant big enough, i plan to....but i did think i made it clear 2x...if you read what i wrote....when you cut off a fanleaf..it usually has a stem attached....

no the stem will start to die and fall off as soon as the leaf is cut from it...
