road trip to nowhere?

Have any of you ever thought about or have taken road trip to nowhere? like one day you just pack a light bag of clothes and hit the open road with no real destination in mind. you just point to a direction like North, south, east, or west and go that way.

and you don't tell anyone, you just go.

You may ask yourself, where does that highway lead to?
You may ask yourself, am I right, am I wrong?
You may say to yourself, my god, what have I done?

~ Talking Heads

I've thought "where does that highway lead to?" times innumerable. I'm a family man though, and have folks who would worry if I ever acted on it. For me, love and support trumps the open road.

and you don't tell anyone, you just go.

You take yourself with you wherever you go.

The not telling anyone about leaving is a very telling statement. It suggests you are fed up with everyone to the point you won't do them the friendly courtesy of telling them you will be out of touch, out of town.

But it is always the contents of our own mind & thinking which we are fed up with. It's not really the faults of other people. Sometimes we are unwilling to just surrender to whatever the fed-up thoughts are saying, and thus we are resisting & opposing our own thoughts---even if the thoughts are factual or truthful, resisting & opposing them causes irritability & stress & tension & depression & lethargy & fed-upness.

Just let yourself be whatever you is. Let everyone be their fucked-up selves. Find more things to appreciate throughout the day and you will feel better and less inclined to wanna run away from home without telling anyone.

My friends & I collected a bunch of drugs (speed, LSD, great pot, a case of Lowenbrau) and decided to drive east from San Jose into the Calaveras hills on Thanksgiving Day 1985...None of us had ever driven very far east before...All you could see were undulating foothills for as far east as the eye could see...We ended up in some place called Sonora...pissing down with cold rain...The next day we went for a drive through a place called Strawberry...It had snowed up there...It was an adventure, but not like the one you are suggesting.

I say go for it. :woohoo:
You're gonna need money...unless you plan to sleep in your car or outdoors...
And, of course, any new people that you meet will only become like the old people you know (and wanna run away from).

all the time back when gas was .83 a gallon and i was young.

That's it right there....the price of gasoline nowadays is the big problem with road trips. Truly sucks. I feel I could go on a long ass road trip every few years, but the gas is a problem, as is my age. Just can't take off as easily when you get older. Something about developing a rep....fuck off society! :)

Back in the day, we called jumping in the car with a bag of weed and riding out to destinations unknown "Friday Night". I lived in Alabama and we had miles of back roads, dirt roads, logging roads and cow paths to explore. We'd explore the back roads, chuck beer bottles at signs (maybe even shoot a few holes in them) and just generally raise hell. We could get from point A to point B without using any major roadways. There were old logging roads that were only used by hunters during hunting season, and we'd go through places where the bushes scraped both sides of the car for miles.

Some of the most fun I've ever had.

The only thing that is stopping me from dropping everything this very minute and hitting the road is the fact I cant take my herb with me to all the bad ass places I want to visit without fear of persecution and prosecution.

My road trip started 2300 miles away in 2008...I'm still on that road trip. Cali is a nomad trap though...I'm still trying to leave (can check out but never leave I guess).

You should tell someone you're going, for your own safety.

yup, but that only tells them where to start looking for your body. when I went for solo motorcycle road trips I carried a street sweeper along with my camping gear.

the road is a wonderful place , well years ago it was left around 16 and fruit picked all around oz, back to same places every season, thousands of miles until mine work and domestication stopped me, loved every moment of the road and the characters you meet, still remember all of it.old fords and booze.
