Sad to hear smoking buddy, thoughts and best wishes coming your way bro.
Peace.

i still cant forgive myself that i had my dog (a bastard) away from our city appartment for the last years of his life.
i thought he would be better in our big holiday house with a plot with the family visiting him and the house every week....... maybe he was..
but when he was to pass away he waited for my parents to visit the house, he greeted them and died at the place where he used to rest. i cant fogive my self i wasnt there

at least u took care of him untl the end.

however i belive that there is another rocky somewhere.. souls return..
if you want to have a dog again my advice is to get one from the street that follows you.. wants to be with you. not all dogs follow everyone. this must mean something.

be well and remember all the times when he did things that made you mad, now you are glad they existed arent u

I want to Thank you all again for the kindness and support. It is the hardest thing Ive been through in years. I knew the day would come but wasnt ready for it. It is going to take a while for me to stop unconciously going to the door to let him in or look to see what he's doing. Those are the moments that get ya.

I started giving rep with responses to specific posts but Im clean out of rep so Ima do it here:

Thank You TrichyTrichy, Zebulon, Vash, BudGood, WierdJimmy, Mrs.Babba, unclefishstick, sackoweed, (not so) mean mr.mustard, mediusa, hammerhead, lolagal, idoreallytry, opt1c, mellomel, Fatblunt420, itisme, exploziv gbb, and stevius, englishrick, Big D, basspirate, Sleepy, vonforne, bigscoot, jamieshoes, payaso, ganga d, esbe, phillthy, hippyjohn, b00m, DJ, brazilgal and supersizeme. I appreciate your kindness very much.

mellomel, no problem darlin. Im a pushover tears wise at the moment and it doesnt bother me at all. I enjoyed the pets 10 commandments and your doggy looks cool.

cookie monster, I so hope it is all that. It would be perfect. I have some folks waiting up there who are showering gus with love as we speak.

marywanna, beautiful post, beautiful. thanks very much.. i need another tissue.

reservationlabs- Its amazing there was never a whelp or hesitation til last Thursday. I did notice he wasnt eating everythig in the bowl in about a minute like normal but I figured hes getting old. thanks for your thoughts bro.

hank hemp- You got that right brother. They are all individuals. Thank You.

centralcoastbud- Yes, the goldens have big hearts and great tempraments. no need to ever lay a disciplinary hand on a Golden, a stern word is all that is needed and even that can cause a sulk. sensitive and caring dogs they are.

pararaboom- Man sorry to hear that bro. You cannot always be there when things happen. Sounds like you tried to do the best thing for the dog. The really incredible thing about Gus was he didnt make me mad. ever. Even when he was a pup, he endeavored to please. He peed in the house 1 time, I yelled at him and rubbed his nose in it, threw him out and he was depressed as hell.. after that he went and stood at the door when he needed to go. That was my first lesson on how easy and awesome my new dog was. After that I saw time and time again he learned from my warnings, never needed more. seriuosly goldens are incredibly easy to live with.

peace to you all and words cant express how helpful this thread has been for me.

Some dogs are irreplaceable, My family got a golden retriever when I was 2 or 3 years old, and I grew up with him. When I was 15 he had to be put to sleep. He was such a great dog I couldn't have asked for a better dog. If I ever have kids I will get either a rottie or a golden retriever.
