I have been in contact with AB and posted this reply to his question.

In the wild, Cannabis is an annual. It germinates, grows, flowers and distributes it's seed for the new year. Then it dies.

If you need more flowering time then nature allows, you can continue flowering under artificial light, no problem.

After it has been harvested, you will have a root ball and a small amount of stalk remaining. If you leave a couple of small buds on the stalk or lower branches, they can re-generate the plant.

It has to be kept above freezing and it has to see less then 10 hours of darkness. It takes a couple of weeks to see results and about 8 weeks to regenerate back into normal vegetative growth.

You will get a lot of new growth and the cuttings make fine clones.

I am afraid the original Regeneration thread is lost, it went with Overgrow.

Several of my successful Regen's was done outdoors. The plant was flowered during the Spring and allowed to regenerate over the Summer.

I concluded, a 8-10 hour dark period, normal in the Summer, is adequate for regeneration. You can achieve the same indoors with a 14/10 or 18/6 photoperiod.

Would I rather spend my time raising seedlings or watching a regen come back to life? I will take the regen first, as long as I am satisfied with the first generation harvest.

On the down side, a regenerated plant is far less able to survive adverse conditions. The growth is crowded and susceptible to moulds because air circulation is restricted. Second, the plant is not a tough as a seed grown plant, it is much more likely to be damaged by storm winds. I have lost several branches that way.

Did I mention, a regenerated plant is a great source of cutting? ;)
