RESURRECTING THE DORMANT

Well the second batch of oldies are alive and well inside my mini starter cab.
Out of 75 seeds I had 15 sprout and live to see dirt. That's 20% which would seem low but they are 25 years old and were "stored" very poorly.
The second lot did much better being soaked in a mixture of 1 tsp. liquid seaweed (kelp) in 8 oZ. of sterilized water for 36 hrs before going into paper towels.
A seed heating pad probably would have helped even more.
Its late here so tomorrow I'll take some pics and post.

Untamed thanks for the interest. I know this was a long shot project but it looks like now I'll have a vintage grow to report.
Peace

I wish I had a cache like this to try to bring back to life.. I'm too young to have sampled some of the legendary old school strains. But I would love to get my grubby little hands on some.

Very impressive work so far, looks like you've got the hardest part handled already. I thought I'd managed to pull off a feat germinating bagseed of unknown age (Approx 5 years) very poorly stored. First green things I've ever grown, got them flowering now.

As to the origin of your seeds, seems reasonable that you may have a Hawaiian Sativa strain. May wanna brush up on Sativa growing, as from what I've heard they can be a little pickier than indicas. Might have some old Maui Waui there.. heh! I'd smoke it!

Hi PS,
Yeah man back at the time I was just finishing college so I had good connects.
My best buddy and I were trying to remember what we smoked back in '82. And keep in mind some of these seeds could be older.

First off here's the old girls (HOPE HOPE) in the mini cab.

You are so right about Sativas. I relatively new to growing. The Old School, as I have just dubbed them, will be my 4th grow. For practice grows I've been using random bagseed. Boy was I surprised when that sativa girl got going. Talk about stretch. As a newbie it blew my mind and I know I didn't take proper care of her. She still yielded some fine bud :joint: One of which I am smoking now.

Identifying the strains , if possible, will make a fun game for this thread. The weed we smoked at the time was; Columbian and Acopolco Golds, Panama Red was still running around, Hawaiian, something called Black Moroccian? ( it was a fat dark bud that smoked very oily. Anyone remember that?),
let's see... :chin: We didn't really smoke commercial since we all had scratch so any other strains will be quality I guess.

OK LET"S BEGIN.
NAME THAT STRAIN (is it possible at so young an age?!)

AND MYSTERY WEED NO.2 (and or 3)

I tagged those three babies so we can follow their progress and try to ID their strain.

Any suggestions, comments, prayers, and like stories are welcome and appreciated.

PEACE ALL

DA, yeah sounds like you've got some winners there. Best thing I can think of advice wise are the two I try to keep in mind. KISS and be gentle. Nutes starting at low doses and gradually increased if they're not enough.

I'm itching to lay my hands on some good Sativas... not much of that kinda smoke availible locally, at least not any that are grown/cured properly. I'm more of a fan of the head buzz than the body stone. Check out the ultimate sativa thread in the strains forum. Some nice info there on old school plants.

I haven't even finished my first grow, don't see anything distinctive enough about your plants yet to make any calls as to what strain they might be. Hell, to be honest I'm far to ignorant to make any accurate calls there.

Anyway, best of luck with the grow. I'll be watching this one, even if I am far more prone to lurking than posting most of the time.

Thanks. I'm very excited to find out who's in the grow.
As far as nutes go, I'm totally OG, even the perlite is sterilized before it goes in the mix.
I'm getting better at keeping everything close to right, but these littles won't see added nutes for some time.

Yeah the kids are too small to tell. BUT SOOON!

CHECKING IN ON THE OLD SCHOOL

CHECKING IN ON THE OLD SCHOOL

Just a quick update.
Let's see the little old girls are now 25 years + 18 or so days old.
Here's how they look.

They're all doing fine but I think its kind of crowded in the mini cab.
15 4" pots :yoinks:
But I gotta keep 'em goin' til I see some sex.
And I'm not talkin' cheap porn.

Although here's a nice pussy pic. :yummy:

OK time to go.
Remember grow old!

what light are they under? bring the lights down a little so you dont get too much stretch. I have my fluro's within 1" and the plants love it.

U- yes the lights are to high. I started this cab out as a sprout box, but of course things got out of control.
I do veg under flouro's and I usually have them about an 1" or less away.
I have to say I love these CFL's. They are n:vision that you can get at any home tyrant
store BUT you have to find the daylight ones. 5500k color temp. and they put out big lumens for their size. The 27 watt pumps out 1300.

Yeah I'm going to move them right now. good call. Sometimes you know what you need to do but you're too damn lazy until someome points it out.
Well now that's no way to treat the kids.
PEACE

Wow! What a mystery, I wonder what happened to this grow?

Weird to think that the 25yr old seeds probably never made it after all :badday:
