Request for Help - Final Mile! Cheapest, shortest rez for 3x3 hut

I am confused.:bashhead: Can you suggest what sizes I should get the wood cut to?

I can have the rez be 24" wide total. I can go as tall as 10" from the floor and I would like to have it be able to hold 30 gal. The length can be as long as 45", preferably shorter. I'm hoping to get the wood cut tomorrow. Are you familiar with Home Depot? Prefer Lowes over Home Depot?

Ive shopped more at lowes, and I know every one ive been in has the saw to cut the wood.

For your res solution....
If it is possible, use the 45" length. A 24x45x8 res holds 30.5 gallons up to the very top. 1" down from the top of the res is 27 gallons. 23 gallons when 2" down from the top.
You could also step up to 2x10" for the sides...then a 24x36x10 box will hold 30 gallons to the very top. If you fill the taller box 2" from the top, you will have 24 gallons in there; 1" from the top, 27 gallons. I wouldnt get it closer than the 1".

Either one should work for you....which ever you prefer, floorspace or height. I would leave both of them about 2" from the top full, thats about 25 gallons in either one.

And I just tore down my res with the untreated stuff, it looked the same as the day I bought it. Thats after 1 season, I'm going to check when I clean the res every 2 months.

I'm coming up with 27.7? If the 24" width translates to 20" usable and the 36" goes down to 32" x 10?

But, 10 inches tall will work for me and those dimensions will too pretty much. For the width, I can't have the rez be more than 24" from the wall. The length can be flexible.

An outside measurment of 24x36x10 will have a usable volume of about 21x33x10=6930cubic inches = 30 gallons. A 2x4 is about 1.5" thick, same goes for 2x6, 2x8, 2x10.

(length-3)x(width-3)(height) =gallons
...............231

I was thinking of doing a organic hydro grow but it just takes up to much space. :(

Build your own rez. You will need to go to the lumber yard and buy one 2x8 10 foot in length. Cut 2 pieces at 24 inches and 2 pieces at 27 inches and nail together a box that will finish at 24x24 by 7 1/2 inches deep.

Go to the hydro store and buy pond liner, buy 4 lineal feet of the 5' wide size. Go home and carefully fold and lap the liner into the box, tucking the corners in tightly. An extra set of hands will help. Then staple the liner to the top rim of the box and trim off the excess if you choose.

You now have a square rez with a capacity of 22 gallons + or- a little bit depending on how tight you install the pond liner. Very inexpensive. You won't need a bottom on it unless you need to slide it back and forth from under the 3x3 tray. If so a 27"x27" piece of 1/2" plywood will make for a solid bottom.

Merry Christmas,

Lowes Super Tub, it's 2'x3' and 8" deep. Probably a little less than you would want capacity wise. If you're going to drip or top feed it shouldn't matter as long as you have enough to keep it recirculating. I can saturate 12 slabs and have enough water in the res that the pump is safe with a 20gal res..Doing the math those tubs are like 18 gallons.. Do a search for 'mobile ebb' and you will get a thread by member fuzygrowth..

Sonofa'... wouldn't you know it, just got all the wood cut today. That would have been perfect but I am pretty psyched about the rez I'll make from alright Meow's thread. Couldn't find pond liner or 12" concrete blocks so it will be done after the holidaze.
I need to have the tray 12" off the floor and will have two by fours between the block and tray for support. Know of a good alternative to get the tray up that height and be solid enough to support 400 or so lbs.?

duddits----------the pond liner rez is a good tool, re-usable and unless you trimmed the excess rubber off, it is Fully re-usable. Another thing too.......Lowe's Super Tub is trans-lucent, it allows light penetration and aids algae growth. Check translucency by holding the material you contemplate using in front of you and look through it at a 100 watt bulb, if you see a glow.......it can enable algae growth.

If folks didn't have problems the forums would not exist!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, almost!, old farts like me would really feel like the MayTag Repairman. (humble and loveable like WonderDog).

Merry Christmas from Syd and Boo and "Me", a finer bunch of folks I have yet to meet in a forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duddits, my entire grow area SITS atop pond liner, no freeking water leaks in the house. It is reusable and has many other applications, unlike the plastic tub from Wally World.

By the by, my grow area is framed out with 2x2 lumber, screwed to the floor and over laid with Pond Liner, assembled in the same manner I suggested for your rez, just not as deep No runs, drips or errors. Another thought, those plastic tubs are made for storing things in, not designed as water tanks. They damage easily and will dump a shit load of water in your grow area when they fail. The Pond Liner, if penetrated, might/will dribble, not flood your house.

Most of those storage bins are from China and made from recycled. Things have their place in our lives, I just don't trust my home to shit made in China by the folks at the Wong Wei plastics company. It is one thing to put some clothing or bedding in one for storage------------fill it with water and Bump the SOB and it will crack or break on your ass and flood your crib dude.

Truer words were never spoken!

Thanks for the advice. I appreciated your earlier post that spelled out the process. As simple as it is, it makes all the diff to read it several ways to visualize it better. I just laid out the boards where it will go and it is great! Looks meant to be!

Happy holidays

Wow they must have JUST taken their pond stuff down at lowes. I was just there today hoping to pick up a pond liner and a small water pump, but the whole section of shelf was empty.
