I'm not a huge baseball fan myself (how could I be when my home team is the Cubs - not much to root for there) I do respect America's pastime and this is a compelling World Series: the champion Phillies vs the greatest team in professional sports, the Yankees.
They're 1-1 now with the Series heading back to Philly.

Ottoman: I have the utmost respect for Big Mo but be honest, your heart wasn't pounding just a little bit in the 8th inning of Game 2, with two on base and the go ahead run at the plate? I realize Girardi wanted to close the game out but he needs to have more trust in his setup men...

The AFC North might be football's toughest division, with the resurgent Bengals and the Ravens having an O to go with their D....

G8shoe: What do you think about the Niners going with Alex Smith at QB? Funny we were just talking about this, and that you were never a big fan of Hill, and now you've got your wish... Maybe this will herald bigger and better things for the Niners. Smith to Davis and Crabtree will be the new Young to Rice and Watters... One can only hope that the Niners have found their QB of the future, after like 10 years of searching (it only took the Bears 23 years to find a good QB, so I can empathize).

Gr8: How did Smith look on Sunday? His stats were pedestrian: less than 200 yds passing, 1 td and 1 int. But if he moved the chains than he was doing his job. Maybe the Off Coor should open up the offense a bit more. This is 2009, the era of the shotgun spread. The Niners revolutionized NFL offenses with the West Coast short passing game, now they need to catch up with teams like the Saints, Pats and Colts and put Smith in the shotgun with 4 or 5 wide and let him spread it all over the field...
Gore is back, with a long TD run to prove it. Crabtree is already productive although I see he lost a fumble, a no no but he's a rook so hopefully he'll grow out of it.
3-4 but theyve been competitive in every game except for the Atlanta brain fart. And they had the Colts down on the road but it took a trick play for the Colts to pull it out. Theyre capable of going 6-3 or 7-2 the rest of the way and maybe making the playoffs so theres still hope, if not this year then next...

The Bears finally got in the win column but they did not look impressive even though they won by 24. Four tries on 1st and goal and they couldnt punch it in against a Browns team with one of the worse run defenses in the league. The Bears are not winning the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball and will be lucky to finish .500 if those issues are not addressed.

The Saints are winning with both their offense and defense. Could they go 16-0? Perhaps. But if they were to lose one, better to go 15-1 in the regular season than have a loss in the playoffs a la the 2007 Pats. Too bad the Super Bowl is not in New Orleans this year, that would basically be a home game for them if they make it to the big game...

I have Tickets to the game on Thursday Vs the Bears too....its gonna be a hell of a week for football for me.....the party bus is the way to go!
