Is it safe to rent a nice house grow in it but not live there? Stop by everyday and make it look lived in, even put some furniture in it. But the main purpose is to grow in it. I think they do this in Canada all the time......any input

Is it a legal grow? If yes, yes it is safe. If no, no it is not. Neighbors will notice that you are never at home and that you come and go.

you ever notice that those pesky neighbors always state to the reporters after LEO raids the house "oh there was never anybody home, someone would come by for an hour or so every day or two but thats about it"

making a house look "lived in" isnt hard at all (furniture, lights/TV on a timer). Actually having your neighbors believe that you live there (thus no reason to suspect a grow op) is going to be harder.

The neighbors that would care enough to call the cops on a "suspected grow" or "suspicious activity" WILL be the neighbors that notice there is rarely a person home. And being real with you here, if you arent hanging out at your grow house for hours upon hours each week, saying hi occasionally as you "get the mail", you wont be visible enough to be "the quiet neighbor that keeps to himself" you'll be "the guy checking up on that house that nobody lives in"

this is all dependent on the personality of your neighbor. Those overly friendly "hey wanna come over and _______?" type neighbors will fuck with this plan so scope out the people around the house you plan on renting.

yes it can be done, quite easily, just make sure you take the proper security protocol.

the houses my friend has been looking at are not in "cookie cutter" neighborhoods. they have somewhat long driveways and are back up in the woods. There are neighbors but not real close you can see each other but lots of woods in between. very hard to see from the street...

you can see each other

Just cover your ass, sticks or not, if they know you arent there you might be okay, however might be okay usually ISNT okay when your growing.

I still say go for it, just do it right. (in regards to security)

Not trying to threadjack, but I've been looking at renting a coworker/friends basement for growing. They have a big house in the country, a huge basement, gates, guns, guard dogs, the works. Their house is in danger of getting repoed and I want to help them out by renting their basement and paying their PG&E, and moving my grow over there (it's 5 minutes from my house.) I would have the only key to the basement and they wouldnt use it at all any more, it would become my rental basically. What do you think guys, any opinions?

Again, is the grow legal? If you keep it below 99 plants or the county plant limit and have the coop/collective patient's paperwork posted on site I don't think it should be a problem. To boot you are getting a chance to help a friend out. However, if the grow isn't legal I wouldn't put myself out there to get in trouble.

Yep it's legal, I have enough scrips to cover all the plants (currently 6 scrips @ 30 plants ea) so no worries there, I'd probably get a few more scrips as I'd make it bigger and better at the new site. I thin I'd have to do one more run at my place before making the switch, lot of work to do to prep an ordinary basement for a 12K flip + veg room. Thanks man, much appreciated.

Cool, yeah I'm not really worried about robbery, I know the family pretty well and the dad is a homebound disabled hells angel type fella, not someone I'd mess with on a good day. I can't imagine the guns that dude has stashed all over the place, but he'd be a helluva watchdog (along with their pitbulls.) Just gotta sell some folks on the idea, great, telling someone that I'm a grower. Sigh. Sometimes ya just can't do the right thing, even when doing the right thing.

I would just divide the grow up to keep it below 99 in each location but then again I don't want to mess with the federales. Just curious, are you part of a coop or do you have 6 patients with you as a caregiver?

Yeah I thought about doing that too, hell I might even move my op over there when ready, then fix up my home spot more and do another one, but I currently have a rental inspection every 6 months and it's getting old. Trying to see if I can get those cancelled (been a great tenant for 1 year) but if not, I'm moving the op, if not just plain moving out.

Caregiver status in CA is a no-no, I'm part of a collective :) Damn near no rules on that particular road.

I heard that caregiver was a hard road to hoe. Are you paid by the dispensary per pound? Is it strain dependent? A lot of questions that I have always wondered about...

Yeah being a caregiver means you have to provide primary healthcare, shelter, etc to a patient, simply growing or supplying MJ for a patient does not entitle one to caregiver status. A collective can grow for as many patients as they want, and no limit on the number of patients they have (Ed R had over 1600!)

Most of my medicine goes back to the patients in my collective, but I do have friends that sell to clubs and yes, wide variances on how much they pay, based on:

Indoor/Outdoor
Organic or not
Hydro or soil
Strain
Crystals (Harborside actually tests for THC%)
Color (some people think purple weed is better, therefore it fetches upwards of $4k/#)

Some clubs want to paw through your bag and pick out the biggest tops/nugs and leave you the rest, or try to get you to sell it to them for cheap. I've been told the best recommendation is look at their prices, if they sell $60 eighths then you'd better be getting about half of that. 8X30 =240 an oz, or 3840 a #.

Interesting, do the caregivers come to you directly for their meds? What I am trying to determine is how are you paid when working for a collective? And didn't Ed get popped even though he had all the recs he needed?

Well they are all members of the collective, so because I grow their meds, I'm legally allowed to charge them compensation for my work and supplies. Sometimes they bring me clones they want grown, but usually I tell them what I've got going on and they pay me for their medicine when its ready. I don't sell to anyone outside my collective and everyone is happy with the arrangement. PM me if you want to know some details I don't feel like posting here.

Yeah Ed still got popped, the state ratted him out to the feds (a big F U to Ed for being an activist) but the feds will now allow medical MJ defense to be heard in court, first case is on Oct 27! Check out westcoastleaf .com for an article on it...

Hijack, sorry. Is this the same as affirmative defense? The fact that the feds could be allowing medicinal defense now is a HUGE thing IMO.
