Regular Home Depot HID bulbs

Hey,

I was thinking -- a regular HID bulb is ok to use right? I know lots of people are growing with the new Argos and stuff, but the regular $20 crap bulb... you CAN grow under that....correct?

the home depot bulbs work fine. Everyone who is getting the econo lights is essentially doing the same thing. Plain old-fashioned HPS.

ive been buying my bulbs from home depot for a while and they work just as good as any and if ur wearing sweat pants u can get them for free no alarms on bulbs hehehehe :joint:

Hello all,

I use standard 250w hps bulbs and have great results.

It is my understanding that enhanced bulbs do offer an added benifit.

The question them becomes is the added cost worth the benifit.

And that question has not been emperically determined except by the bulb manufactureres and data is by default suspect.

However, sticking a HPS bulb down sweatpants is on the surface illegal and immoral but the below the surface is plain risky given the fragility of the bulbs. Not to mention karma.

Check my gallery for some results of a standard 250w hps or any other hps users gallery.

Be careful with that man I used to work there and their serious about theft. They have cameras that can zoom in and see your nosehairs damn near and plain clothes security walking around all day.

They have way more high tech cameras then that in HD and Lowes...watch discovery channel about it....it's called Big Brother.

They have cameras that tell the security guard if you are going to steal or not.

this bothers me, you can find 75w/150w/250w/400w, both HPS and MH bulbs, in standard and mogul base.......but HD near me doesn't sell any security lights. so wtf are you buying a replacement for if they don't sell housings or ballasts??

whereas LOWES near me sells econolights in 75w, 100w and 150w....i dunno

SubnoizedKid: Thats the same story here, they sell the bulbs in standard mogul socket, but no housing for it or the ballast.........NE 1 knows where can this be found online?

Hello all,

This is a copy and paste from another thread:

AT HD I was looking at the 26w cfl's at 6200K...the price was about 7:90 a bulb. I needed six.

I also needed a 250w hsp....did nothave one in stock but I recall about 20 buxs before.

Well, I ordered 8 26w 6400K cfls and a 250w standard sulvania lu250 for 48 and change including shipping from 1000bulbs.

At HD 6 bulbs (26w 6400K) for 7.99 is about 42 bux plus tax and no hps bulb...for 48 bux to my door I recieved 8 26w 6400F cfls and a hps bulb.....

AnD I did not need to go out of my house.

Of course the cfls are chinese made but have a 5 year guarenty."

It took about 5 days to recive my package. The cfls are in plastic protective packages inside paper boxes. All arrived woroking and still are since last January.

Don't forget to change your bulbs yearly.

Well, there is no where to buy HID bulbs in my town (at least not 400w hps), so I have to order mine as well.
I ordered a standard/bulk type hps bulb, the brand is Eiko.
It wasn't as bright as the Philips that I was replacing, and then it burnt out in the first week- piece of junk.
I'm running a Philips Son-T Plus now, a little more money- but a lot less problems.

Do HID and Metal Halide bulbs use the same socket size? I know my ballast is switchable between them, but I wasn't sure about the socket.

I'm not saying your wrong but 400W HPS lights are pretty commonly used as street lights, barn ligts, security lights of various types all over the country.

Have you tried the electrical supply places? or ranch/farm supply places? They sell 400's around here at those places. lots of ranch and farm buildings apparently still use 400's....although CFL's are replacing them in many applications.
