Reflector Vs CoolTube

Reflector Vs CoolTube

What do you guys would use between a Cooled reflector or a CoolTube?

Lets say i can get a good reflector for 125$ or a cooltube for 99$ each...The only advantage I see for the reflector is the light being used more efficiently but is there a big difference?

I plan on using 1 x 400w MH/HPS with 2 x 600w HPS digital ballast for the flowering room, I will probably just use a 400 or 600 for veg...

lets say I can get This or That. I dont really care about the 25$ difference, just wanna know if a reflector is REALLY better? and also I wanna know everyone pro/con about those!

I would personnaly go with a cooltube just because they look cool :chin:

Kinda depends on the amount of room you have available...if it's a smallish setup without alot of vertical height, then the cooltube is probably gonna be better for you. The drawback to most of them is the lackluster reflector that is included with them. If you've got the room, then the better quality reflector of an air cooled hood will help make sure that you have a nice even light coverage.

My vote is air cooled hood if you can swing it.

Hey thanks for the reply...

Well yes the height will be a problem about 6' max, and for the space I will be using in the room for flowering is ± 4' x 8', Im still not sure about it I have plenty of space to work with but I wanna get around 50w-70w/ft... :chin:

This cooltube got the reflector outside the tube: Link might be a good choice

Pretty much a toss up then...I use a modified hydrofarm hood in a 5' area for SOGs and it works fine...but it's pushing the height limits due to my res being under the plants. Personally I like the better reflectors in the air cooled hoods...but to each his own.

Best of both worlds: SunGro air cooled hood, it's only about $150 with the air cooling "package". Probably one of the better deals out there for reflectors.

There are reflectors that are based on a cooltube design with the sleekness and all. The hydrofarm Daystar AC is one as well as the Sun Systems Econocool reflector. Both are longer and have good light spread, as well as can be easily aircooled through one of the ends.
