Recognition of The Mars Volta

The Mars Volta is the creative partnership formed in 2001 between bandleader/composer/guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and lyricist/vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala.

They recently released their new album "Amputechture" and have 3 previous releases (Frances the Mute, Deloused in the comatorium, and Tremulant EP), in order from newest to oldest. They also have 2 live albums (Scabdates, and Live)

I don't know damn, there is so much to say here...

I will start off by saying they are amazing performers live. I would imagine they practice everyday. "They" consists of Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals and lyrics), and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez which have always stayed the same since the band formed in 2001. The band also consists of a drummer, second guitarist, bassist, bongo/percussion/MIDI controll keyboard, a guy who plays 2 diffirent types of saxaphone/flute/other brass, and a really jammin keyboard player who I think may be blind (uncomfirmed).

I believe they are a modern reincarnation of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and other classical artists. They have an unheard sound, but after critical, consistent, and critical listening appreciation for this band increases with every minute of time spent. The level of appreciation reaches another level upon seeing this musically talented band perform live...

Please take the time to download some songs for those of you that sound like you might want to give them a try.

Artist: The Mars Volta
Good titles: Drunkship of Lanters, Roulette Dares (The haunt of), tetragrammaton, Day of Baphomets, Vermicide, Viscera Eyes, Cicatriz, and there are many more epic songs out there.

If you enjoy them a lot, I recommend buying the album for quality and centimental purposes.

For those of you that are already familiar with T.M.V. you can discuss freely, and so can those that are not as well!

Thanks for listening. :lurk:

Crazily enough I actually put a post just like this up a while ago. I saw them at the Orpheum in L.A. 4-3-07 Great show, incredible live energy and amazing sound.

they're pretty good, i think their stuff is a little repetative though.. too many songs sound the same for me. they are definitly good at what they do.. crazy timings and wierd changes and shit. and they are mind-blowing musicians.. especially the drummer, cause it takes ALOT of stamina and energy to play as fast as he does for as long as he does.. personally, i think At the Drive In was better.

mars volta makes me feel like im in a jungle. very strange. going to sleep listening to them is a trip.

The Mars Volta is one of my favourite bands. First time I heard them was a while ago Deloused was the CD and everyone took LSD. Shit, that album sent you on a journey. It was just greatness.

I have seen them (in order from first to last) at;
Greek Theatre - Berkeley
Santa Barbara Bowl
August Santa Cruz Catalyst Show
March Santa Cruz Catalyst Show

All have been EPIC!!!

I love their intro music, I love how they come on stage and don't say anything, and they don't stop playing for 2 hours straight and then walk off the stage!!! Unlike any other band!
