really hot weather 85-100F! AC info would be awesome...

I kinda look at window ac boxes as a lot of work to essentially build a portable AC, which, albeit more expensive, is ready to hook up and run. If you're a handy carpenter (I'm not) I would save the trouble and spend the extra bucks, just my $.02! :)

Now that makes more sense bro by opening the tent i meant an intake which wasn't drawn in on the original post. umm cool the room with a window unit and box it up bro it works sweet 4 me.

Probably less than $20/mo *shrug* Not sure but they're really efficient A/C units.

I have a Stanley Utility fan screwed to the ceiling of my space. 6" aluminum ducting was stretched over the output of it and runs directly to my A/C unit. Built a cardboard box on the front of the A/C intake and the ducting connects directly to it. VERY efficient.

That stanley fan is approximately a 250cfm fan for $50. I found mine at Ace. The DIY Link O' Rama has a link to the stanley mod thread. :D

If you don't mind ordering stuff online, or better yet have a safe location to send it too, google cap valueline fans. They are made by cap, but are a little more than half the price of a vortex. I got a 6" that does 435cfm for $91 shipped.

Granted these things are noisy, but i recon any 300+ cfm is

The chinese factory is offering up a 5yr on these fans. Be interesting to see if they make good.
For that money I'd say they are worth a try.
platlightinghydroponics has them for $80+ ship.

(I use two stanleys in the attic)

Hydro-Soil...do you have your AC mounted in the window, or did you build a bux for it? Thanks bro.

Sorry I missed this one. It's in a window.

I have 2 A/C units in 2 windows in two different rooms going 24/7/365. One keeps a large room barely cool in the heat and the other keeps the 1K grow nice and chilly. :D

Yes, my landlord looked at it questioningly when I was talking to them but it hasn't come up in conversation. Just relax and ignore it and they don't get suspicious.
If I HAVE to, I'll lie and say it's to cool computer equipment and bring up how close to a disaster I had when they jacked me around without cooling for 3 days in 100F+ temps.

:D

Aaxxeell: IF you decide to put the unit in your tent, definitely follow the A/C box designs and use that stanley fan for venting the box. Wicked smart. :D If I had the room in my space, I'd do it that way but my only option was the window. Fortunately it's a small room. :D

Your AC needs one more duct to bring in fresh air to the unit. (the vents just before the hot exhaust coils)
With what you have there, the AC will be sucking in cooled room air to cool the hot coils. Not very efficient that way. I highly suggest you check out my AC thread closely.

You may also want to consider attaching the boxes to one another. It will allow you to have a much more efficient system for less money.

OK i'll try and clear up what i was trying to say, sorry for misguiding you hoosierdaddy'
in the above picturethat is on page two of your thread it shows a pic i was trying to replicate :)
sorry i drew a crap pic...

in the veg/clone box im building I have a 4x tube 39w t5ho (but ony use 2x 6500k tubes) whick dosent get very warm so i thought...
the AC cooled room air would be passivly taken into the veg box , then drawn out thru 6" ducting do a boxed AC ( as per your instructions and diagrams) and past the coils, into the back section of the box and drawn out with a centrifugal fan...
ya digg>? :joint:

doz this make sense? im not so good with the diagrams and explanations on forums biz' LOL

granted, thats what i get for drawing all my diagrams on windows paint... LOL

oh wait i get it, u mean as written in your thread i should draw air in from outside the room? so i dont rob the grow room of cold air...
what you said would make sense if i was running a sealed room...
but my main 4x4 flowering tent draws air from the tent, which is passivly taken from the room.

Ideally i would like to run a sealed room, but i cant... i can only afford 1 more hole (in a window) to expell the hot air, will it still work doing it my way???
i know its a bit more inneficient, but its the only way i can get ac in there.

You see two ducts going to my box in the illustration. It needs to have two ducts, one in, one out.

The one in can indeed simply use your room air, just not the best way to do it.
If you are going to have a board or something at a window to exhaust from, you should have a space for another duct right next to,(preferably below) the exhaust duct.

Bring air in through one duct, and out through another and you will not have to scrub the air being used.
To cool the room, and then suck it though to cool the coils is simply burning up electricity and is a detriment to the grow.

Also consider that any air being exhausted from the area had to get into the area. When you add an AC unit, you have uped the required air within the room. If there were just enough cracks and openings to let air in for the tent, it may be past that threshold now if you suck air from that room for the ac. You have demanded another 6" ducts worth of air.

whoa yeah! never even thought about it like that.
i spose i should just put the veg box in another room like i was gonna.
so i guess i'll set up the ac with the 2 ducts to the window k.i.s.s style :)

I do believe you need a larger opening for your passive intake sir. I suggest a 1ft wide hole if you could.

Hoosier is alot better at this than I am though.

Defently need to move that balast out of the growspace aswell.

The digi ballast may not be too much heat...not familiar with them yet.

Yes, the Capn is correct you need more intake. Put in another 6".

Make certain that your light is airtight, or you could potentially be sucking unscrubbed air.

I personally think you will need double the fan, but it may work out for you depending on how well the fan pulls. Best to go big and use speed control from there.

Don't plan on being cooler than ambient without a cooling method.

Thank you hoosier!!

I has a digi ballast 600lumatek and it puts off a fair amount of heat. Is this a hydro grow?
