Additives like cherry oil for food are very very cheap. Much cheaper than any byproduct of cannabis oil production. Also, there is no way any byproduct of cannabis oil smell like cherries. But I'd love to hear a better explanation than mine. I also make extractions with acetone and they don't smell cherry. Once purged, most of extractions are very similar. No smell or taste other than that of the cannabinoids. No terpenes

I let some random 9 week freebie go 12 weeks indoors and got cherry bho.

Red. Cherry. Oil.

Redder than red. Cherrier than cherry. Mad I lost her. Tempted to try again. It's something that legit happens.

I could easily replicate the flavor simmering red cherries in sugar and a bit of citrus.

how did you preform the extract..?
what was the source material (weed) used ?
what color was it when spread on paper ?
good buzz...tasty ?


how long did you soak..?
did you do a frozen filter ?
did you evap in a vacuum ? and like a closed loop set up
a still or something....or just evap it off...?
did you recover the acetone or no..?

It was a freebie seed that I got from herbies with my order.

Looking back I see that it was either a silver haze or a critical mass, or a cross between the two.

There is little else to say.

It's one of those things you would have had to seen to believe. There weren't even any cannabis undertones. It was just bright cherry red oil. Nothing fake or synthetic about the flavor at all. The effects didn't seem overly narcotic.

That's about all I have to say about that.

maybe so...but now how safe is that for human consumption I wonder....other solvents that can be used according to my research as well for example...
hexane, naptha white gas, acetone, chloroform too....
and maybe benzene but not sure...

obviously the bulk of the solvent needs to be removed
which seems straight forward to do

and I do believe you when you say, no additives,
red and tasted cherry, that sounds similar to the stuff I have had,
but there is no way they would have blasted butane
at the scale level of production....

another idea I was kicking around, was benzene
only because it read it has a cherry type scent/flavor used in other products....however, I was advised from a very knowledgeable gentleman on here, to steer clear of benzene, it can be toxic
if you're not careful with the application and use of it...


so there are different solutions, and different process(s)
being tossed around here for ideas, on which experiments to conduct....end goal , -red cherry oil

Just a quick freezing wash in pure acetone and I perform a wintering process for several days. I get a very solid oil, dark amber with very little amount of chlorophyll. Once evaporated and purged there is little amount of flavor. Terpenes go away.

Not really notably, no. Obviously the hairs were red and pinky.. but no notably colored leaves or anything.

and you blasted Butane...? for extraction...

The butane blast was on freshly dried material. All that reddening up took place on the plant. I was throwing 600w of hps, 600w of mh, and 15w of uv at a single plant, just waiting for the trichs to hit half "amber".

T'was a beautiful plant.

I MIGHT have a picture of the oil laying around on one of my old ipads.. doubted, though

I saw a strain hunters vid last night where they go to India and pick beans off a plant showed colored seeds. Maybe the red ones will grow what you seek. Or were those just coated seeds?... sorry, had a buzz.

this is another on-going experiment...
extract of pink kush....zero red at extraction...
it was actually a yellow piss color....QWET process...

so color change...ongoing experiments of process
...30 days exposure to daylight or light...
mid winter, everyday is cloudy....so not direct sunlight
up in the windows for exposure....not direct sunlight

ive researched and read somewhere...a lebanese oil man, say he left his extracts out in the sun. in a sealed glass jar
for months, and it produced a red oil...so as the rumor
"hearsay" has it.....per say

so I did an experiment, with a light yellow extract left in
daylight, not pure sunlight (big difference) 30 day...

it does work, it does turn a red...
in my case a redish brown....but defiantly you can see
a red ...

I will let it go another 30 days, and see where I am at...

test tubes used last 7 days, to maximize exposure
surface to light

any expert chemist....

Hello folks,


anybody out there recall a type of cannabis resin oil know as
cherry oil (late 70's ish, early 80s?)...this stuff was red, kinda like a (chinese food sweet and sour sauce) - red, bright


when spread out on a paper, was of thick viscosity
smelt like cherries just on the paper, tasted like cherries when smoked....and smelt like cherries burning....great high


the best oil ive smoked in 30 years, amen brother


...make no mistake and confuse this with todays so called cherry oil, the stuff available today at dispensaries they call cherry oil, is just a winterized iso extracted, honey oil.....smell and taste nothing like the authentic cherry oil of the late 70s


ya, im in pursuit of figuring this out,
and making some kick ass personal...


I have a theory, that this oil was possibly made from a cherry tasting cannabis, and of one that was plentiful back in the day
to manufacture, mass quantities of the stuff. This particular brew was purchased in large quantities so goes the folklore around these parts, dispatched out of major city of some sort, up in them there hills, as it were.


well you get the gist of it...at the time you were lucky to get your grimy hands on just a 5er...


so im going to try an experiment, with some cherry tasting buds
see how that goes, and for that, ive selected Mr.Greengenes expertise in breeding, and going with his cherry bomb

could be...but this is only a color change issue/experiment...
its not really a concern at the moment...


the experiment is to ultimately prove or disprove
what ive read during research of a leb oil man
making "red oil".....so far, its looking to me like it is possible


as for the THC taking a hit....id be inclined to agree with you


but it is also possible, to reverse the process...
by converting non active THC molecules ....into active THC molecules, through the isomerization chemical reaction process...
using a small amount of acid to a ph value of 3....neutralizing acid, and wash it out, using separator funnel....before evap off ethanol....


that would be next step, of experiment...
this experiment is just and only a color thing...
to see if its possible to alter color....without fancy ass additives
but through process only...


after color is somewhat figured out,
then I delve into alter flavors
why not....lol

I did/have considered red leb....as source material
in fact I bought seed twice now from 2 different sources
terrible luck so far, only had 1 plant make it in batch 1...
and it turned out to be a male, so I used it in a hybrid experiment


batch 2, had 8 seedlings, 1 made it to male stage-tossed
another 6 died, and I only have 1 seedling left...so I have a 50/50 chance it might be a female....but over a year now, ive tried to grow red leb, seeds from bekka....


yes, very brave indeed....for sure


can you tell us more, about your experiences with it...
or any other thoughts or insight....

Might be worth noting I kept 15w of uv thrown at the plant all throughout flowering.

Might also be worth noting that there wasnt a brown or maroon tinge. I got Dairy Queen Cherry Dilly-bar red translucent taffy.

I believe that with the right strain, under the right spectrum, pulled once the trichromes are mostly bright red, a simple butane extraction will leave you with red sap of the same color.

Sap, though, due to the ripeness of the plant. I don’t know how well you could stabilize it. The sap I yielded was stable enough to touch only very briefly before it started melting and sticking. Halfway between taffy and like.. pine tar.

I would start figuring out the flavor and smell. Cherry! Come on, it has to be great to smoke something that smells like that and gets you high.



You know why I believe flavor is the most important thing? It is because the terpenes that affect the flavor have also an important role in the effect. Color doesn't mean that much. It doesn't affect feelings smoking.
