Random Knocks at the Door

Never answer the door for unexpected company . Always screen who's there before letting them know your home . I assume if you did'nt call before you came , your not welcome . Simple but effective rule .

I have a policy that all my contacts know!

Call and ask to come over. Otherwise don't even try to enter the yard.

I would have pressed redial.

Well I didn't press redial but the number is in the phone saved. I'll call it from another line I figured I'll act clueless and call it one day asking who it iis

That actually is my rule. But I've been here months and there has never been a single unknown knock. I guess curiosity killed the cat on this one. So I broke that rule.

This is a tactic tweakers used to break in my buddy house and burglarize it. Knock on doors asking for phone to call for ride cause same bs story, houses that weren't home had door kicked in and robbed. Might have saved your ass answering door, good call on pistol. Better safe then sorry.

ya, all to familiar with that tactic although I've never done that I know plenty of people back in my teens that did this for fun. maybe I should of let him break in then I could of legally put one in his chest and 2 in the head.

They have your house phone number and can call to check if you are in from what I read, that is bad... Maybe the threat of lead will keep them away? What if they have a friend that reads ic, I'm sure this is an experience the guy wont be forgetting soon and may tell to anyone that listens, then they know that you grow.

But im just some random in internet...

Glad that the call to a friend to ask for a ride wasn't code for, "I found our mark, this guy's home alone so come on over so we can kick his ass and load up our truck."

You did Ok. I live in a rural setting too, and everyone I know knows to let me know before they come out. The very best thing you did there was to arm yourself, if you hadn't things could have got out of hand real quick. You don't have time for the law or even a neighbor to help you out when you live in a rural area. That guy was trying to intimidate you for some reason as you were helping him out. Not a good sign. ALWAYS trust your gut!!

U did the right thing pullin ur gun.......gotta draw a line in the dirt sometimes. I woulda answered with my ar sayin get the fugg off my property.

All has been safe since. All very realistic scenarios.
The only thing keeping me from stressing too much is the fact that my house is never empty
And everyone is pretty good with a gun.

Smart move answering with a firearm..

Unless I am expecting someone, I simply never answer the door for anyone.

Nog?

Just shot em and feed em to the ceiling people next time.

U do NOT pull or point a weapon unless u intend to kill something. Ur life or no one else's where in any danger. If he had advanced AFTER being told to leave? then fine. To pull first was wrong.

Depends on your state law re: drawing a firearm, but I think you handled it fine. You didn't get robbed, you didn't have to shoot him, the cops didn't call and you didn't get your ass beat. He was definitely fucking with you.

what would have you done in that situation. AS he was getting closer it was real weird and I definitely felt threatened after telling him twice to back away. Forgot to mention the first time he was damn near rubbing arms with me and he crouched to the floor and jumped up. That's was when I stepped away and he laughed. I don't know if I handled it the right way? Wat do you think?

Id handled it in the same manner but here we have CCW so its not a big deal . Everyone is armed where I live .But yeah soon as dude got to close . Id warned him like u did . Then drew my firearm as a last resort . Get u a large dog . My gatekeeper is a blue razors edge pitbull . He pushes anywhere from 90-110lbs in winter

Well, they have your address and phone number, and through that probably your name...but i'd wish for the best. I'd make sure to leave your lights on and keep some cars parked out front so they know people are home. I would've pulled the strap out too if some dude was getting close...i'd rather get some space and whip it out then stay close and risk getting an unlucky blow to the jaw and getting fucked up. Another thing that concerns me is if you didn't hear him walkin up, how do you know nobody was going around the side or the back to peek around? Ya don't really know if he's alone...if I had people home at the time, I woulda followed his ass and see where he went!

I had someone come knock on my side door the other day unannounced...I peeked out front and saw a cart, got sketched out...walked out front and it was some hispanic lady trying to sell tamales lol I generally don't believe they hype but from her body language and stuff it seemed genuine.

Every year some cleaner guys come by trying to do demo's at my friends spot...always in October...and his house has maybe 2-3 neighbors next to it then absolutely nothing for 15 miles one way and god knows how many the other...

What if I just wanna shoot 'em in the foot and run? Wat about that, huh?

Hope you're a crack shot. The foot is a rather small target. Wanna bet your life on it? And if you succeed it's your word against his in court. But hey, it usually works OK on TV.
