Radio Scanner is a must have......

What does the driveway sensor tell you, that a car(any car) is approaching from your driveway? And of course, that really matters most if you have a really long driveway- live out in the boonies- because if you have the typical suburban driveway it makes little difference I would think.

How would you find out in advance what channels/frequencies your police use so that you could make sure you don't buy something only to find out the police use digital encryption or something?

There are normal analog transmissions with some PD's (can be heard on any scanner, just punch in the freq.)

Some use voice inversion which is the analog above inverted, analog scanners can recieve this as well, but without an inversion chip it's garbled.

A lot are switching over to digital, some can be recieved with a digital scanner. It's harder than analog tho to figure out, and way more expensive than analog scanners.

Last but not least - digital encrypted... if your PD has this, might as well save your $$. There is no scanner available that can decrypt digi encrypted signals.

Here's a site for more details about radio...

I'm sure that it is possible for someone to hook up a scanner to a computer and decrypt / crack the digital encryption. Whatever encryption they're using it is probably fairly simple.

I know it is possible to hook up a scanner to a computer and decode pager / text messages.

I am not sure if you can buy a scanner nowadays that does not have blocked freq ranges, or even modify one to unblock freq ranges. They're not cheap, but they're worth the money, especially if you like trying to have your own little NSA.

Dakota Alert makes a motion sensor that is portable and "alerts" to a walkie, which is a W/T too so you have a dual use. Its range is for several miles. I camo it and "nkow" if anyone/thing crosses its path. You can add up to 4 zones of coverage!! Don't leave home without it, lol.

Hehe that'd be a good thing indeed if there is a way to decrypt their encryption via 'puter - if so, it's beyond my pay grade, I'm no expert by far. Ppl who value freedom sure need their own NSA these days...and something tells me its only going to get worse as time goes on.
