Ok, I'm getting an O inna bit. I don't want to make butter, but is there a way to make an edible that will be somewhat effective or should I not bother?
Spend the time making a proper edible, you'll have a greater effect from less material, and it will last longer.
But if you really can't wait, you can quickly make some canna peanut butter for toast. It takes about 10 minutes not including prep, then another 10-12 mins to bake and activate it further on the toast.
Fry up a teaspoon of lard, and a teaspoon of butter, over a low-medium heat.
Now, add your finely ground up herb, as much as you care to use (at least half a gram or more, keeping in mind that quick edibles are often not as efficient as proper edibles). Use a coffee grinder if you can, you want it essentially like powder.
With a fast edible, your best bet is to try to, not only activate and extract as much glandular material as you can from the bud, but you want to also activate the cannabinoids remaining inside the bud for full consumption. With a fast edible, you want to eat the resulting herb as well. During digestion your body will continue to extract as much as it can, before 'passing' the material.
You want to use a candy thermometer if you have one, and bring the temp up to about 300 degrees, heat is your friend here since you're trying to skip the time it takes to make a proper edible (and presumably you're trying to skip pre-decarbing as well), but too much heat will destroy your product. Dial it back to low almost as soon as it reaches 300.
Now add a teaspoon of peanut butter, shut off the heat, and mix while allowing to cool.
Spread between crackers or on a folded bit of toast, wrap in foil, and pop in the oven for 10-12 minutes at 340 degrees. This will help continue the activation.
This is a modified firecrackers recipe, with a bit more pre-activation than the usual easy firecrackers, but it's well worth the extra ten minutes of processing.
If you don't like peanut butter, just skip that step, and bake the resulting lard/buttered herb on some toast, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or something else you like just before eating. The toast (or crackers) makes the ground herb easier to swallow.
I know you wanted something quick, but one little extra step you can do right at the beginning, if you want to spend the time to ensure you get the most bang for your buck, is decarbing for a few minutes in the oven using a closed oven bag. You can always make up a big batch of decarbed bud and save it (well sealed) for future use, if you want to keep things speedy.
Take enough for a fair size J, wrap it in tinfoil and bake at 250F for 20 minutes. Prepare some oatmeal, I microwave it (3 mins), mix with a little butter and/or sugar or honey. Works great. Enjoy.
