I agree, just gotta give it a try I suppose.
What happens to the hermy plant itself after being pollinated by a regular male? Try it and let us know.
But I think the best case scenario would be that the progeny would be a little less hermy prone.
I mean once the plant has flowered and produced its seeds, what would you do with it?
Suppose you could reveg it and see if it would still hermy next time around.
My bet would be yes it would, because having it pollinated with a regular male shouldn't change anything in the plant's genetics, it should just change the resulting seeds.
At least that would be my assumption but maybe you run it, reveg it and find out that the plant no longer wants to hermy because it is a survival mechanism indeed as you surmised and through the regular pollination it no longer requires to hermy itself.
It's an interesting hypothesis and apparently one that cannot be refuted through experience by anyone who responded here.
So I agree, give it a try and see what transpired.
My bet would be that it wouldn't work. But that is just a guess.
Good luck man, definitely an interesting thing you propose and if your hypothesis is proven, you would have made an actual discovery imho.
