question about transplanting

Hello, forgive a silly question from a first timer...

I just culled my males and am now going to transplant my females to larger pots. Can I use the soil from my males in the new female pots? I worry about mixing the roots of the males in with the females. I should probably only worry about pollen, correct?

Thanks!

no do not re-use soil, it is a no-no, would you like to sleep in a bed with someone else's dirty sheets?? its just not a good idea and is easier to start with fresh

I agree completly with rkrone never a good idea. Soil isnt that expinsive and you can make your own soil for the same price as fox farms stuff and or cheaper and its better.

Do you guys throw away your used soil? Talk about evidence... I always reuse my soil, either mixed with some fresh stuff when it's only been used for a few weeks, or composted for some time when it's been used during a whole grow. Recycling is not only economical but also ecological.

Here are a couple of links about soil recycling:

mstoner, to answer your question, you should not be worried about using soil containing male roots. As you said, pollen is what you should be careful with. But it is up to you to decide wether to reuse your soil or not. IMHO if the soil is healthy you should be OK.

Peace :joint: good luck

I wouldn't reuse soil in the same way I wouldnt reuse runoff to feed my plants, but plenty of people do.

I always re use soil from the males...Shit when you start 50 seeds or more and 1/2 are male :bashhead: I just take all roots out of soil and throw it back in my soil tub (my mixed soil) mix it around and refill pot.

I use very little nutes for the 1st month so the male soil is fresh and good to go... :joint:

I would re-use it

I would re-use it

But I would make sure I got out all of the old roots first.Ya don't want decayin roots in the same soil yer tryin ta grow new ones in,it could cause root rot on the new ones.Btw worm castings are an excellent way ta revitalize re-used soil,at 25% it works wonders.Good luck on yer grow! Take care...BC

in my situation re-using my soil is not an option, too many roots for it to be worth picking through, when i can just use fresh

dang, thanks for all the input

I had enough fresh soil for the females so I went ahead and used it. The old male soil + the rest of the new soil is now in a tub for my houseplants.

Thanks again!
