question about topping

is a 400 watt gonna run much much hotter i thought someone had told me they are about the same temp wise..i have a decent vented hood with tempered glass and a duct fan venting it out...will that do.????

its an inline duct fan ....80cfm the blades are a plastic i think but they did well with high temps before....so do you think that a 400w is to hot i know a lot of people run them but what do you think

this is my reflector i have the 80cfm fan exhausting from the side opposite the socket do you think that is good enough venting. plus it has the tempered glass?

There is no way a 80 cfm fan will exhaust the heat a 400w light puts out in the size cab you have. My cab is very similar in size (4ft X 2ft X 6ft) and I have a 210cfm fan and still hit the high 80's during the "daytime" (thats with 62 degree intake air also)

hey heres a pretty cheap alternative for cooling a 400w hps gotta thank stanely blower fans maker he he. heres my 2 x 400w hps on a stanely 1 hood i have looks like your's except the ballast was attached to mine but now remote.


you'll see the stanely on top shelf things wicked for 39.99$ @ walmart http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29341 1 guy in the thread claims to kool 3 x 1k hps on 1 stanely i know it kools both my 400's n/p. if your hood has a vent ontop like mine did i removed mine, had a 3 x 4inch reducer cut the 3 inch end off and siliconed the 4inch into the hole. allowed sislcone to dry and hooked 4inch dryer ducting to a 4inch Y adaptor i had layn around lol. other side of Y gose into cab and the air cooled hood 4other 400w hps the ducting on the stanely is 5 x 4inch adaptor siliconed in placed on the grilled air intake for the stanely. now the stanelys exhaust i used a a/c register duct with a 4inch ducting hookup. the register square part i cut down to fit nicely over the stanely's exhaust and duct taped the dog do outta it lol. been hold n/p almost 1yr nowi have a streight 4 inch x 6 inch long flange the exhaust into attick. for what you would need to exhaust a 400w is this

1 stanely fan 39.99$
1 each 4 inch x 8ft flexible dryer ducting 8.99$
1 each 4inch i'll call it stiff lol quite rigid 8.99$ {i use it from stanely exhaust to the flange in celing} holds in place nice
the a/c register duct i believe was like 12.00$
roll silver duct tape 2$ or aluminum a/c tape for slightly more

so for approx 75$ you'll be abel to kool 1 400w hps through 1k hps n/p dont think i would run a 1k in a 2x2x6ft erea lol but 400w would do nicely. i done a scrogg in my cab 1st run had older 400w then heres the cab when i 1st built it with screen installed



the material for the screen itselff is 1.5 x 2inch chicken wire what i call it frame is 1x1's

yielded 300 grams of over dry perfect smoke in that run i had the stanely hooked up to only a small section of ducting inside the cab run to directly under the socket for the 400w bulb. the old light was on loan least 20yr old worked great but had self enclosed ballast. my temps would get approx 83-85 degrees, now with air cooled hood cab gets 78 and closet maybe same or very close. i can touch with back of my hand the hoods glass on both 400w lights {not the bulb } the glass on the hood
my total height from bottom of light to cab floor was 43 inch
the screen was placed approx 10inch off soil surface from screen to light was 31.5 inch. below the screen i cut all growth branchs but left all large main fan leaves allowed them to die naturally.

just a little personal experince and a testomony on how fine of a fan stanely tools makes lol

how is the stanely on electricity does it use a shit ton...i dunno maybe im not ready for a 400w yet.. i didnt think it got that hot i thought the tempered glass and my fan would have done the trick keeping them cool plus i have a 75 cfm intaking air into the box itself and another one exhausting it and a ascilating fan inside to circulate u still think i would need somthing as big as a stanley.

what about this fan its 250cfm its the six inch version of what i have.

those "duct booster" fans are useless, i used to have a 6" one and it could barely cool a 250. Get a 6" can or vortex fan.

Yeah, that's a booster fan, it doesn't actually move 250 cfm. It will boost air that is already moving (being pushed by another fan) by 250 cfm, but on its own is practically useless.

Don't feel bad, we all went through that phase of learning about them

yes can fans or vortex fans are the best on the market the 6inch can fan will run ya 80-100$ good investment. but for the money 39.99$ the stanely blower fan cant be beat for price and cfm rating. tis been said the stanely is equal to a 6inch vortex fan in cfm on low setting will kool your 250w hps n/p you'll be abel to touch the glass on the hood prolly have the 250w light 6inch or closer to plants tops. my 400w bleaches anything 6inch or closer from light intensity lol but gives me nice hard ass for soil nugs

well after everything everyone told me i decided to just do a scrog with my 250 watt.....i spent all day yesterday making my cabinet smaller i lowered it completely its now only 5foot tall and i want to scrog one plant in it....how far should i keep it from the tempered glass on my hood...im gonna use the same fan as before not the booster fan it keeps the 250watt really cool.. i dont think im ready for a 400watt grow...what do you think i can expect to yeild for a 2'X2' scrog hopfully a lot i went over my buddies and i was so jealous he has a nice house so he can do it better he has two 400watts in one room and a bunch of beasts and i 400watt mh in his vegroom hes so lucky to be able to do that.
