NEW YORK -- A woman from a wealthy New York suburb is accused of growing and attempting to sell more than 1,000 marijuana plants from a city warehouse.

A federal complaint says Andrea Sanderlin, from Scarsdale, N.Y., operated a warehouse in Queens that contained a "sophisticated operation to grow and process marijuana."

The complaint was filed May 20 by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent David Lee. It was first reported Tuesday by The Smoking Gun website.

Sanderlin's attorney, Joel Winograd, did not return a message or email seeking comment Tuesday night.

Lee says law enforcement agents entered the warehouse using a search warrant to find two rooms designed to grow marijuana. He says each room had state of the art lighting, irrigation and ventilation systems.

"extremely high electricity bills -- in one instance, $9,000 worth of power in a single month -- and that payments to the utility company had been made in cash, behavior that investigators described as "consistent with narcotics activity."

And a snitch...

Investigation into the marijuana growing ring began in April, when a confidential witness told authorities that "Andi" had been growing large amounts of illegal cannabis in Maspeth, Queens.

sad to hear. her charge carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years, maximum LIFE sentence, fucking insane.

only way she can get less than 10 years is to cooperate with the feds

a rapist with a good lawyer or a drunk driver who kills a pedestrian would get less time than she will get......now just how wrong is that? In some states, you would be better off being a hit man than a bud man!

If I was growing commercially in a state with severe cannabis laws (not that I would...due to "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime") I would do several things to minimize the chance of doing a decade in the iron bar hotel.....I'd sell to just one buyer in big lots, I'd rent two premises side by side under different aliases, one premise would be for growing and the other would be for entering and leaving with a secret "door" between the two, I'd split the electric usage between the two places or run a generator some of the time, I'd set up excellent security cameras with offsite pc viewing capability and great smell controls etc etc..but more importantly I'd do it all myself. I'm sure there are dozens of other things you could do too, but most of it falls under the heading of not being stupid, greedy, impatient or lazy....

and the one thing that most people don't do when they "break" the law, they fail to have set a "use by date" for what they are doing..because one thing is for sure, if you break the law, the law will eventually catch you (that's for sure not maybe) so set up and set a goal and or a date to stop, otherwise one day, you will for sure be wearing handcuffs and be full of regret of what could of been.

trust me, if your career is growing bud in a state that has severe penalties, it's just a matter of time before you get busted, it might take ten minutes, it might take 20 years, but you are going to get hit eventually....in that biz you have to be in contact with others, and these others will give you up in a New York minute when they get busted (as they do) .but not you of course Jellyfish, because you are obviously Teflon coated and bullet proof. my advice was just for us mere mortals, not clever guys like you with 420 guardian angels sitting on your big shoulders...lol

and this coming from someone who has run the gauntlet for decades and never even been questioned or handcuffed, let along been charged or been to court.....but that wasn't cos I was cocky or lucky...I just knew when to walk away or give it away.

I'm not being cocky at all. I'm just saying, with a reasonable amount of care, it's not that hard to outsmart the po-po. So I don't know why you want to take it all personal, but then again, I don't really give a shit.

There's nothing personal and really I hope for your sake that's true...but the trouble is not with you and how much care you take or how smart you are, the potential problem is with everyone along the line you deal with and have dealt with.....if any of them go down (as they do and will) or gossip (as they all do) then 8 times out of 10 they will give up their mother and you just to spend a day less in prison...that's why you need a use by date..without one you are just another regret waiting to happen. ..so aim for a target in $$, achieve it and then get out and do something legit.

You can't prove what you're saying anymore than I can prove what I'm saying.

BUT- Remember this, all the people who don't get caught are all the people you DON'T see on the evening news or in the newspaper. And I happen to think there are TONS of those people.

There are no statistics on growers/growers who get caught, so to me, it just sounds like you're talking shit. :)

I think its comical, every indoor bust where they find fans & scrubbers , they always describe it as "state of the art".

Just heard on the radio, LEO was tipped off by the electric bill..

not accurate...someone snitched it seems...

If you grow for personal use, this is why you don't tell anyone...If you grow for profit, this is why you don't deal with shitheads or get greedy.

I agree with what you are saying, and not saying this applies to you, but I feel like a lot of people look at people in present time who haven't been caught, but fail to realize the game of life is still not over. I know guys who have been doing their thing for 20+ years, whether they'll make it another 5 I don't know, but I wouldn't put money on it. I guess it depends on what level you operate, if you do outdoor/indoor, mmj state or not, who you sell to, etc.

Basically, I feel like everybody gets caught sooner or later, and if you get lucky then stay the fuck away and good luck spending the money!

I In large part it has to do with who you associate with. I personally make it a point to stay away from idiots and people who take unnecessary risks, and at any given time there are only at most 2-3 people that I associate with from a business standpoint, and than only if it is someone I've known already socially for a number of years. If someone I associate with turns out to be a risk taker, I cut them out of my inner circle. I've lost some people whom I consider to be good friends because of that, but I also don't need someone else's garbage overflowing into my world.

Overall though, I do agree with you and all we can do is minimize the amount of risk we expose ourselves to.

I feel like certain things in life are not capable of being planned. There's always the risk of getting pulled, a fire at your grow, wrong place wrong time, getting followed from the headshop/growshop/dispensary, etc. some things cannot be calculated and are just best left to be called destiny.

Cutting someone off isn't enough, unless you have one of those mind erasers from Men In Black...busts are generally fabrications derived from hearsay....and it doesn't always matter who you deal with, shit can always come down on you from others up/down the line. Gotta do a lot of surveying before you build a new bridge, cause some bridge can get scorched but never actually fall down.

I'm not trying to be a pessimist, just trying to be real with myself and others. I've gotten in trouble, thankfully never for anything significant, and honestly looking back I never did anything to really ask for it, not much I could have changed to have had outcomes turn out any better...like I said, destiny.
