Im actually getting the hang of these light things. It was just so muhc information at once and i couldnt handle it, or tell the difference between all the types of bulbs.

But i decided to go with CFL's. When i was at home depot today i saw a CFL bulb that said on the box 150w. but when i looked closer it was 42w. I kind of understand the 2700k and 6500k things. The 6500k is all the full spectrum of colors of the sun or something like that. But 6500k is better than the 2700k and less from what i read. The bulbs at home depot were 2700k form what i remember. Those were like $10 a piece. So will 2 42w CFL's 2700k work fine for my veg stage?
I can get 2 42w CFL's 6500k online at 1000bulbs.com for $20 a piece. But does the full spectrum light only really needed during flowering?

Thanks for all the help

You want a fluorescent shop light, I've seen them for around $30 at Home Depot. This is what you want:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?jspStoreDir=hdus&catalogId=10053&productId=100043531&navFlow=3&keyword=shop+light&langId=-1&searchRedirect=shop+light&storeId=10051&endecaDataBean=com.homedepot.sa.el.wc.catalog.beans.EndecaDataBean%403a5c8d33&ddkey=Search
OR

I'd go with the one from Lowes!

Now, sometimes you can find them cheaper at Wal Mart or K Mart, though I usually don't shop there. Definitely stay away from Halogens/Incandescents.

EDIT: Just to make sure I'm clear, you only want the light(s) to veg plants before they go outside, correct? If that's the case then all you need/want is a fluorescent of some kind. Whether it's a few CFLs or a shop light is up to you. Personally, I'd go with the shop light(tube fluorescents), as I am not a big fan of CFLs(just my opinion).

ONE MORE EDIT: These could be very useful to you, and they are CMEMORY:

This might need a new thread, but i went to home depot today and i found 27w CFL's 5500k. There was also 42w CFL's but only 3000k. And the higher the K value the better it is for veg. So i suppose i can get 3 27w's to veg 10 plants for 3-4 weeks.

There was also another CFL. It was the U shaped CLF bulbs. It was 42w and it stated clearly that it must be with 42w compatible ballast's or it wont work. And that it cannot work with timers (is this true? or can it still work). And it was also in the security and floodlight section.

From first glance it looked like it would fit in just a regular light fixture, but i think i have to go check it out once again. anyone have any idea what im talking about? I couldnt find it on home depot's website either.

I bought my shop light for veg at home depot it's just a plug in shoplight only $20 i got the one with the cage over the bulbs so i can put it right on the plants, they also have 48" floro bulbs for plants but they are like $20 bucks apeice so i got natural sunlight and they worked fine:) oh i also just drape a space blanket over the light itself very easy and reflects very well! i also have some under "twistys" and 10.5 reflectors from hd but they only light up a small area the 48"shoplight lets you light up a whole row and keeps them relativly the same height. another cheap thing i did was take a window blind apart and hook the strings to the shoplight and you can raise it up and down like your window blinds, redneck carpentry at its best lol!! hope this helps
