My ideal weed ... would be solidly trippy, euphoric, and mildly electric. Not electric so much that it is excessively edgy or induces paranoia, but enough that it gives me an exciting ride, or a bit of a thrill factor. This is the goal of all my testing, breeding, and modifications of growing conditions.

+1
Maybe a haze-thai crossed with bangi, congo, or leshaze? or destroyer?
The Bou had some Mextiza x Malawi at some point, by sal opette.

May take a pheno hunt, tho'. :)

...was very disappointed to find that nothing I smoked came close to the energetic floating on air, crazy laughing till your stomach hurt trippy euphoric stuff I used to smoke 'back in the day' so I've been attempting to grow it myself for a few years now.

The Ace strains are the closest I've found. I've tried NepJam, Orient Express, Panama, Congo and most recently I have a BangiHaze which is nearing maturity and have test smoked it from week 6 of 12/12 onwards. I also have a Vietnam Black x Thai from Ace that is 4 weeks into 12/12.

The Panama and the Bangi are so far the closest thing to what I'm looking for but I suspect a Thai dominant strain might be more in line with what I'm after.

'd love to hear your take on your NJ, OE, etc. results, and how, or what parts, of their high were pro or con for you in your quest. And why/how Panama y Bangi are "getting there" for you.

I've only grown one VbT, and I didn't find any electricity in her high- just warm clear motivation, and mild euphoria. Beautiful smell and taste after a good cure. In my current grow I'm hoping to find in my c99xVbT crosses something with a little more hazy zing/trippiness/euphoria than VbT alone, while keeping her power.

Hoping for some amazing tastes and smells too by taking down some of the c99 fruity sweetness and add some of the VbT's drier strawberry flower nuances.

My next grow I hope to get some Bangi pollen onto a GreenHazexPanama, Neville's Haze Mango, a VbTxNJ cross, and an X18xNJ cross. And maybe one of these three c99xVbT's currently flowering. Female Seeds Fast Neville is another candidate for Bangi pollen, but might not have the space.

cheers

Sure thing, keep in mind I'm not wealthy and so I order very few seeds in order to try to zero in on the strain I want to try more of so there was no real great rounds of selection with these, some were only one pheno at all so it should be taken with a grain of salt:

The Nepalese Jam I only managed to get one single pheno of, I found it boring to be honest and not very clear. Just a kind of bleary unremarkable high. Yield was tremendous and perhaps it was just a bad pheno. I guess if you're used to heavy indicas it was a little more up but not by a great degree. I remember sitting in the hot tub after smoking a large amount of it and staring off into space and thinking "meh". I like strains that get my mind working and thinking cool thoughts, that was not it.

The Orient Express I grew a few phenos of and the effect was very similar in all. At first I really liked it because it smelled and tasted so good and the initial up part of the high (from the Vietnam Black I guess) was fantastic and if you're in company everyone starts getting all chatty and excited but it only lasts a short while then a very hard "stone" kicks in and you get all introspective and moody "downer" or "bummer" would be good words for it. In a group of people everyone starts to go silent and just stare at the wall kind of thing. Great if you're into staring at walls but I could not think of a good use for it.

I made green dragon (tincture in alcohol) out of it as I do with all my strains for medicinal purposes and the person I made it for described it as "unpleasant" after trying it several times with the same outcome and much preferred literally any other strain I used before. They disliked it so much they actually threw it out without even finishing the jar full. After they said that I could not shake that feeling either when I smoked it and I ditched the mother.

The Panama I have grown two phenos of, one was very stretchy and lighter leaves, the other is more squat and very dark leaves but neither had red or purple hairs at all. The stretchy one was bland and I ditched it but the squat one is absolutely fantastic and is in heavy rotation. It's very pleasant and relaxing and trippy and quite heavy, it's like a hybrid *should* be, a nice balance of stone and high. Not good for getting anything done but excellent for mellow pursuits, sex, watching tv, relaxing after work, winding down at the end of a long night of partying, laying on a beach kind of thing and the strong parsnip and lemon smell and taste is unique and delicious. Yield is average but very good for a sativa. It's definitely one of my top 3 ever strains.

The Congo I got one pheno of so far and it's yield is excellent. It has more hairs than you can possibly imagine and is just curing now after my first harvest. Every time I transfer it to a jar or even handle a bud a pile of hairs are left behind. But it is actually quite chunky for a very sativa dominant pheno. The effect is trippy, euphoric but also very relaxing and has that warm pleasant body feeling. Very good all around toke. No where near as trippy as the Panama though. I think it will make excellent meds and have just made some green dragon half an hour ago out of the trim. Taste is a mix of strawberry and licorice and other bad stuff that will likely go away when the cure has had time (it's only just dried enough to smoke). I can't make any definitive judgements on this one yet, it's kind of in the middle of all kinds of affects and not strongly in any one direction but that might change as it cures.

The Bangi Haze I have one pheno of and am still awaiting my first harvest. I've been quick drying samples starting at week 6 of 12/12 and that very first toke I took was stunningly powerful, I had a tremendous rush throughout my body on two small tokes and was flying around the house getting stuff done. Subsequent tests I haven't got that same exact body rush but it's still energetic as hell. Oddly enough the last time I tested it was week 8 and I wrote in my notes "relaxing" so maybe it was just a weird reaction or I was just really high and confused. :) I did noticed on two separate occasions that it made me feel a little drunk like my balance was messed up, but I think that might be from getting that energy and rushing around doing stuff while actually quite intoxicated but I'm not sure.

It's now at week 9 and I'm going to cut about half of it then a bit more on subsequent weeks and see how it changes.

It was quick dried so the taste wasn't great but the flavor I settled on after a while is like fresh rhubarb dipped in salt. Also a slight licorice overtone.

It might be the one I'm after for that crazy electric high but only time will tell.

Outside of Ace strains the closest I came was a super silver haze I grew out from seed but it was a pretty crappy pheno with almost no yield and I ended up ditching it.

I think a lot of people talk about energetic hybrids but I almost never hear people refer to them being euphoric and trippy and those are two qualities I would absolutely need in the energetic strain I'm looking for.

In future I want to try the more solidly Thai strains from Ace.

De145,

Thanks for taking the time to write really good reviews of the strains that you have tried, and sharing them here. My experience with Bangi Haze was much like yours. I walked through a doorway and bumped my shoulder while feeling a bit off balance. Various descriptions of Panama have made me waffle back and forth about my desire for that strain. Now I want it again, or a cross that used it. Ha! Ha!

Hope your Bangi Haze finishes well,

Ginormous thanks for taking the time to put your report together. :thank you:
I can't rep you any more at this point, unfortunately;
and your report deserves more of a rep installment plan. :)

As long as there is euphoria to match the amphetamine-like qualities of a strain, I'm all over it. Example- Had a few hits of a joint at the cannabis cup from one of the high times staff. About 15 minutes later all I wanted to do was run sprints while sporting the world's biggest shit-eating grin. It was the happiest and most energetic weed I'd ever had. (and good to know the HT staff knows what's really good vs hype)

I was going to launch some Bangi soon, but think I'm going to go through a 12-pack of green haze x thai (edit: 15/3/13 pack date- still F3s?) instead. Not only for the ladies, but also for a nice big batch of pollen made from several males to be used in the future. (may need dubi/forum's help in selecting) I've got some older seeds that need to be germed soon (inc. g.haze x pana, sam's o.haze x sk#1, leshaze, nepal haze), and would be good candidates for the yellow-white stuff.

cheers, and thanks again!

Interesting traits in early flowering ThaiBliss, it's just a pitty you couldnt explore more seedlings from each line to see more variability now in flowering.

You are right, looks like the sage x golden tiger female will flower making separated balls instead of voluminous colas (more typical of sativa).

This is kind of flowering comes probably from the indica side of SAGE. Anyway, the early resin production even in the main leaf is just outstanding, frequently the lower yielding individuals have a great quality, so let's see how she finishes ;)

The Purple Haze Thai x Sage cross is showing more tropical sativa influence in the flowering traits, the aromas sound mouth watering, should be very complex at the end of flowering! Thanks for all your updates and contributions! :)

Greetings,

Here are some new photos of the plants today. First, the very resinous Golden Tiger x SAGE. This is on par with Bangi Haze as far as resin output. The SAGE cutting gets really resinous buds also. I'm really looking forward to smoking this one:

picture.php

A lot of the bracts have newer bracts growing out from the inside of the older bracts. It can make it look like there are seeds. I noticed this trait in the SAGE cutting that I have. It does not do it all the time. It seems this trait is expressed with relatively high nitrogen and warm temperatures. I have had some grows in the winter when temperatures are cooler and I restrict the nitrogen better, where I have not seen it at all. Same conditions seem to promote fox-tailing. This grow is progressing faster than I had expected, and I have not dialed back the nitrogen as soon as I normally would.

I'll try to get a better picture of the phenomenon when I harvest. I cannot reach back to the higher branches where I'm seeing this. Too many buds in the way, and I don't like to brush up against them. I like to save the resin for smoking.

Here are some pictures of the Purple Haze Meao Thai x SAGE. These buds don't appear to have as much resin, yet, but I think the pictures are deceptive in this respect. The resin glands are smaller and more tightly packed. As the bracts start to swell, the resin glands increase in size in proportion to the swelling. I think they are also hidden with the long pistils and small bud leaves. You would be able to see the resin better if I were to able to get a shot from the bottom of the bud, where the calyxes are more mature, and had the light from behind. Again, I don't want to manipulate the buds and risk losing some resin. I'll get better pictures of this at harvest.

picture.php

Here is a wider angle shot of some of the PHT x SAGE buds on its side of the cabinet:

picture.php

The aroma is stronger from this plant compared to the GT x SAGE. It is more astringent but at the same time perfume like and sweet. It knocks me over when I open the cabinet and a waft of air from inside hits me in the face.

:whee:

B.T.W., Earlier I said that these buds were looking airy. As you can see, they are filling out nicely, and filling up my grow cabinet. If all goes well, I should get a solid harvest.

All the Best,

ThaiBliss

I'm surprised how fast these plants are progressing. It has been less than 8 weeks in flower and both are showing signs of starting to ripen. I'm seeing the first brown pistils:

picture.php

The SAGE cut I have takes 12 weeks to ripen, but I have let it go 15 weeks without noticeable ill effects. I believe the Purple Haze x Meao Thai can go 14 to 18 weeks or more. I'm starting to think that it is possible that these offspring could be done in less than 12 weeks. We'll have a better judgment in a couple more weeks.

I have a theory, and why not? Ha! I have noticed that growing an early flowering plant next to a longer flowering plant can make the longer flowering a touch earlier. I believe that they can also look a bit more like each other than they would have grown separately. Where I live there are substantial amounts of medical cannabis being grown. Harvest is currently in full swing in our valley. Driving down the roadways, you can smell people's ripening plants and drying operations. It is an amazing thing. This could actually be a tourist destination for cannabis lovers, like Jamaica. Please come visit, and bring your powerful and clear early flowering sativas. We need a sativa infusion to counter the indica invasion of the last 30 years. Since there are legal plant limits, people grow the biggest plants you have ever seen. Many are 10 -12 pounds of trimmed dry bud per plant with stalks as thick as your calf or thigh. They are easy to find by the smell or by the tall fences that people build to obscure them from sight. But, I digress. I believe it is possible that these ripening plant smells act a bit like pheromones to synchronize flowering to some degree. All the ripening plants in our region could be affecting my indoor cabinet grow. Soon, this all will be fully legal, and scientific studies will be conducted to learn more about these amazing plants.

Happy Growing,

ThaiBliss

What an intriguing line of shots you lay out!

I reckon you'll be but very content with the outcome!

Late sub'd. Those Sage PHT look CHUNKY! Thaibliss I have a question. Are you seeing flowering times that fall right in the middle between the 2 parents? I know you didn't grow the parents, but from what you were told...

Hi CrazyKoala,

I'm so surprised about the flowering time so far. I have grown the SAGE mother, and relatives of the Golden Tiger father. Both were in the 12 - 14 week range. This offspring is 8 weeks, and looks ready. I'm chopping a branch tomorrow to get it under the scope. If I find any amber head, I'm chopping the plant. Even if I don't find any amber heads, and I find significant cloudy, I'm chopping. What I can see so far is that the resins have gone from all clear, to a clear amber color. It is not opaque at all, and is still looking glassy. In my experience, this is a very good sign for potency. Some of my best strains were clear and had color to the resin. One even had a clear copper color.

The PHT x SAGE is also way earlier than even the SAGE mother. If it wasn't for the amount of white pistils, it would look done. The PHT side is supposed to go almost double this long. At first it was looking so much more sativa looking than the SAGE mother, but it is chunking out instead. The resins have increased dramatically, and gone from clear to cloudy. I can see this with the naked eye. They were looking glassy last week, and now they look like white frost. I will chop a bud to view under the scope, but I'm leaning towards letting it go longer. I'll have a hard time cutting with all those white pistils, even if I find amber heads. It seems like the sour aroma peaked a few days ago, and is starting to smell softer and more perfume like.

I don't know what to make of this. I don't recall such a reaction between two strains. Flowering time is significantly shorter than either parent. I was surprised at how many indica looking seedlings there were, but I selected the very most sativa looking ones to grow. It's not like I want to find long flowering ones, but I do want the most sativa like effects.

Happy Growing,

ThaiBliss

Heterosis/hybid vigor? Or maybe recessive fast-flowering genes? I'm not sure. But sure sounds like a keeper! Bigger buds, sativa effect, and 8wk and under!

Looking forward to the smell, taste and smoke report.

Are you going to stabilize/self the best of the breed? Sage PHT, Sage GT shouldn't die out here. Would love to give it a go.

Crazy,

If I find an extremely powerful plant with high quality effects, I'm planning on using it to revive and bring together two related lines. These lines were from a special Neville's Haze that did not breed true, or at least I have yet to find a child that even comes close to matching the parent. Most breeders may consider it a dead end, and abandon. However, this lost parent was the best I ever smoked. I figure the gene combination components are still floating around in these lines, so I want to find a very good strain to bring the floor or worst case relatives up to at least a very good level. Perhaps the killer will show itself again, but I need this combined line to be good enough to grow even if it doesn't.

So, I have spent my morning taking pictures of the GT x SAGE. I took about 50 pictures using my electronic scope, and narrowed it down to 6 keepers. Unfortunately, it has been so long since I used it, that I did not remember that I have to save each snapshot one at a time as I take the pictures because only the last picture can be saved. What a waste. I'll have to try again later because my wife is going to string me up if I don't start doing my weekend honey do(s). The good news is that I believe I was able to capture some interesting resin colors, and resin glands on the pistils. I did get some decent regular pictures that I can share now.

Here is a bud showing that most pistils have died, and there still is a scattering of fresh white pistils:

Here is a shot with a hand to show some scale. The buds are very small compared to the SAGE mother:

Hi ThaiBliss, very interesting and unexpected findings :) I would never expect such short flowering time for this kind of sativa crosses, but it can happen, more frequently when crossing with very complex sativa/indica hybrids like SAGE, all kind of genes come up again with the recombination.

I still remember an old zamal x jack flash cross we did many years ago, the zamal mother finished in December (more than 4 months of flowering) and the jack flash sativa/indica pheno had an average flowering time of aprox 65-70 days ... the zamal x jack flash cross produced very unstable, almost opposite type of plants but still very interesting to explore, from completly tropical 4 month flowering sativas to 55 day skunk indoor plants of zamal effect.

The GT x Sage look simply scary, there's lot of medicine in this small flowers of huge ovaries and resins. The purple haze thai x SAGE is also a very nice sativa expression, looks very hazy. It is possible to find amazing sativa expressions by crossing high quality tropical genetics like purple haze thai, golden tiger, panama, malawi ... with the old good haze incensey dutch hybrids from the late 90s, kali mist, jack herer, sage....

Keep up the good job and the intuition!

... all kind of genes come up again with the recombination.

This is why pollen chucking is so addictively fun. The stunning thing to me is that both plants are much earlier than expected.

The GT x Sage look simply scary, there's lot of medicine in this small flowers of huge ovaries and resins.

"...simply scary..." Yes, and how thrilling it is! This plant has been under appreciated by me until now that I decided to harvest. It was in the back of my cabinet, over grown, and over powered by the aroma of PHT x SAGE. Now that I have it out, I realize how strong it smells. It has a very minty obvious aroma, with a sickly sweet caramel hashy background. Resins from far away are glowing yellow/amber, but looking closely they are about half crystal clear, almost half with slightly cloudy yellow/amber, with a scattering of pinkish ones (the most opaque), and others clear sparkling sky blue. What a wild plant.

The purple haze thai x SAGE is also a very nice sativa expression, looks very hazy.

Thanks for the kind words, encouragement, and especially for the high quality pure sativa genetics that allow us to push the best from old generations to the new sativa revival generation.

Sincerely,

ThaiBliss

Greetings,

I wanted to post some resin shots of the Golden Tiger x Sage buds.

Here are some blue colored resins. I'm not so sure that they are blue, it may be the LED light, but I don't remember seeing this in other strains. I have seen it in both the PHT and GT daughters. Here is the GT x SAGE daughter blue resin:

picture.php

I usually have a hard time seeing when the resins go cloudy. It has to be perfectly in focus and sometimes then I think it may be the reflection of the lights. No issue with these plants. Here are the GT x SAGE yellowish cloudy resins:
picture.php

Here is an example of the GT x SAGE ambering. It looks a bit pinkish to me:

picture.php

Here is the GT x SAGE showing so much resin that it is growing from the pistils:
picture.php

That just about covers the Golden Tiger x SAGE as I have harvested it. These resin shots convinced me, and I want to try it less ripe than how I tried the aunts. Next will be the smoke report in a month or so.

All the Best,

ThaiBliss
