'Psychoactive' chilli pepper back on shelves

read this somewhere this morning.

A brand of chilli peppers banned following reports they contained the psychoactive substance found in cannabis will soon be back on retail shelves in Singapore, officials said today.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) told supermarkets to withhold sales of S&B Assorted Chilli Pepper last week following reports that the Hong Kong Government found traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the product.

No cannabis seeds or THC were detected in the AVA's investigation, however, and authorities lifted the ban.

Anyone no if this was just a rumor started by a competitor or does this chilli really blow your mind? Don't mind a nice chilli. Its easy to get addicted. I think Thai, Indonesian and Szechuan/Sichuan food are the best. Nothin better than a thai noodles with heaps of prik and an ice cold beer, perhaps even a singha.

sometimes I wish I was back there but the asian community here is huge and the food is very authentic so it isn't all bad.

oh yeah was going to ask.. anyone have a suggestion as to what chilli this might be? Assuming that it is not thc giving the head work to ya but the chilli itself. Anyone come accross one like that?

peace n "warmth" to ya

I love the noodles, but I have to admit I have never eaten prik. I will leave that to the ladies and persons with another persuasion.

^hehe Pops.... prik is Thai for chilli. If you like it mild you say "nik noi prik". Translation "just a little prik" ... no really just a little chilli

I like my scalp to sweat... when I feel that I know I am doing fine.

most Japanese restaurants (I've been to in Asia) have a container/shaker of dry chilli powder and spice on the table

it's mostly ground chilli, but there's sesame and other spices and seeds...including large size hemp seeds.....maybe they are talking about that?

I tried to germinate some of the seeds and all were non-viable.

I think Hemp seeds are legal in Japan..but are illegal in HK, Taiwan and most other Asian countries

everyone knows you get high off peppers, just freaking eat a hot one and wait about 20 seconds, you will be walking around like a CRACK HEAD, sweating, speaking uncontrolably, spitting in sink, heart pounding, looking for something but dont know what, you know tingling body sensations, scratching head feels good, its pretty intense!!

i gave my stepson(16 then) a habenaro and told him it was a pumpkin sweet pepper, he just started gnawing it down, i started laughing, he said what, what, wha, wha, wh,w PUMPKIN PEPPAAAAAAAAAS, man he was fucked up for a good 30 miutes.LOL

Boxy Brown

I grow lots of peppers, but my favorite is the naga morich

NAGA MORICH

Species: Chinense
Origin: Bangladesh
Heat: Nuclear

"Naga Morich meaning 'snake or serpent Chile’ is an apt name for this ferociously hot variety. It is believed to be very closely related to its Indian cousin, the Bhut jolokia (Bih jolokia). The Naga Morich it is the variety from which the Dorset Naga originated. Described by some as like drinking cobra venom, the Naga Morich is certainly the hottest variety thechileman has ever come across and in recent tests, one Dorset Naga pod registered a mind blowing 1,598,227 SHU, thats 4 times hotter than the current world record holder - the Red Savina Habanero!!!! The thin walled wrinkled pods have a high degree of variability in shape although they are generally wedge shaped with three locules and average about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide. They ripen from a rich green through to yellow/orange and finally to a rich red approximately 120 days after transplanting. The extremely long, curved and annular constriction of the Calyx at junction with the peduncle is also a notable feature of this variety. Plants are large and bushy, with ours growing almost 3ft tall. Leaves are ovate in shape and pale green in colour. Plants also display multiple flowers per node and corollas possess the characteristic greenish tinge of other varieties in the chinense species. It is used sparingly (and with great care!) in Bengali cookery and is thought to originate from Northern Bangladesh."
